Volvo V40 - Review and owner stories

I didn't have a rear wiper on my V40 until yesterday.

Apparently, these V40's have a silver box by your right knee under the dash, behind the panel. It's called a CEM, central electrical module. I think that's the correct wording.

If these go wrong, they can cause all sorts of electrical mayhem, such as loss of headlights etc etc.

You can replace them, but you have to fit one from another car that's exactly the same, otherwise some things may not work.

This was what was wrong with my car, it had had a CEM from a saloon fitted, so no rear wiper.

There's a chap on the Volvo forum who re-programmes these. He's only a couple of miles away from me, so off I trotted yesterday.

What a great bloke. He loves his V40's. He plugged mine in, re-enabled the rear wiper, tried to clear some fault codes for me, but his battery died in his laptop, fixed a flappy sideskirt and wheelarch liner, gave me a thermostat, temp coolant sensor, spare fuses and other stuff, all for nothing, yes, zilch. He's also got a set of wheels and tyres with 8mm tread that I'm going to do my best to have off of him.

And a cup of excellent filter coffee for me and Mrs T.

He also has a Volvo 245, G reg, in black with 27k miles. It's his project. I wouldn't mind prising that out of his paws.

I'll have to give him the nudge about us on here.

Oh, I've told him about your T4, Wuvvum, but don't know if it'll come to anything.
