what's people's thoughts on engine flushes on say a 7 year old car with 60K on it and serviced 4/5 times since new, I once asked a garage to do 1 whilst servicing my old Astra H and they said they don't recommend it as it could loosen too much shite in the engine and circulate it all and cause issues and do more harm than good.

Bollox! However I think engine flushes are too fine. Anytime I have done a flush, I have used a cheap engine oil as a flush and drained it out of the engine after doing a few miles to get it well circulated. When new quality oil is put in it stays really clean longer (in petrol engines only, no matter what you do to a diesel the oil is always dirty in no time at all)!

I am a fan of frequent oil changes, and am also not too worried about changing the filter at every change on the grounds that if the oil is clean, the filter has less to do so will not be gunked up after 3000 miles. Yes I know there will be some oil left in the filter, but not much!
