2005 Renault and OBD scanners

The airbag light is on in my neighbour's 2005 Espace, after he had to replace the drivers seat.  I've got one of those eBay ELM327 OBD readers with ProScan 5.9 which does connect, but shows no errors -  a bit of Googling suggests Renault use a different protocol or signalling standard.  Has anybody had any success getting these working?  He's a very good neighbour and I'd like to help him out.  Failing that, would disconnecting the battery for 30 mins reset it?

Not sure about disconnecting battery would through something else into a hissy fit. My cheap and nasty scanner connects with my Renault. Mine is a 51,diesel scenic. Have a look under seat for connectors. My Picasso used to throw airbag light on until I cleaned under seat contacts.

They work fine, but they only read the engine ecu,not airbag/abs etc,it will be the connectors under the seat most probably, but will need a higher spec code reader to switch the light off.
