I've driven (& spannered) a few of these, but the only one I'd actually spend my own money on would be an S2.

Early square-dash models rarely seem to fetch strong money, nor do early S models with the often fragile 16v engine.

I partially agree, S2's are very strong on price.

Square dash models have been cheap for a long, long time.

The dash made them look dated when new but I have read recently that they are getting stronger on price because they are considerably lighter weight than the later models.

If I had my time again, the model I would buy would be the 2.7 8v - enough torque to plough a field and consequently a hellishly good Grand Tourer.

As it is, I own a idiotically low geared, frantic revving 944S - but mine has been serviced fanatically and is about to hit 300,000 miles.

Occasionally fragile is a better description, since in testing they were run at 13,000rpm and are soft limited at a very girly 6,800rpm.
