Guest Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Not mine, but the pleasant dude who runs Lassco architectural salvage by the A40/M40 at Milton Common, Oxon has one of these to sell, with the tattered remnants of an MoT still attached to it. He bought it on eBay after taking strong and liquorous drink, as one does. I will try to get MOAR (or even any) PICZ. He also has a well-minging white Toyota MR2, Mark One, with bonus added rusty bits for extra lightness. Goes well, he says, with luxo 80s stylin' BLACK LEVVA. I do not know if he is wanting to sell that one. I told him about this fine website, but assume that he won't be able to join up, as I assume that the new member Bot is still sehr gefucken. EDIT: picz below.
MrDuke Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I'm desperately hoping that there'll still be some of these left by the time I can scrape the cash together for one. I've loved them passionately since I was at college and a friend had a 'tuned' one which outran V8 landies.Shiter's Fact: XUD lump will drop into these relatively easily - see Lada forum for further info.
Guest Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I was going to smoke on over there today to take some photies for the delectation of the community at large, but I am too hungover to do so, and besides I would probably only end up buying the fookah myself, which would lead to me getting professionally and slowly killed by Bulgarian People Traffickers acting on the orders of my wife.
Guest Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Here are some picz, and I have driven the car. 1996 "Hussar" spec. The owner told me, and I believe him, the the car had been standing for about 2 months. It started first go. I drove it around in a field, and all the important bits work, including the diff lock and transfer box. Various less important bits are a bit broken. It is rough as a badger's arse, has a splendidly shagged interior, and is unutterably lovely and fabulous. A quick squint underneath did not reveal any obvious major horrors. The front brakes look like they may need some work, but function well enough at present. Tax until August, MoT for about a month, if that. May need a small weld to get through the MoT, plus some other minor jobs. I have the owner's number. I totally want to buy this car, but just cannot justify doing so, and, if I do, my wife will use it to drive up a farm track and borrow some blunt and rusty gelding shears that have been used on animals with some very scabby and infectious diseases. The owner reckons, and I agree, that if he gets it through an MoT it will probably go for about 800 on eBay, but one of you lot could probably make him an offer and take it as is. He has a local mech who knows and loves the car and is ready to do the MoT work if required.
MrDuke Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 One of the best colours as well, in fact I could almost live with those 'graphics'. Seriously, that is possibly the loveliest-looking small 4x4 ever made. The fact it's surprisingly capable off-road to boot is an absolute bonus.
Guest Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 The graphics totally rock, I think! This one has its original tools, and two manuals which show you, in English, not only how to fix the car, but how to make the tools to make the bits for the car, with drawings. It also has a bonus sticker that says Lada Niva in Land Rover logo style. It is not nearly as crude to drive as a Series Landy, and will apparently spin up to 70 ish on the motorway if you want it to. It even has a rev counter that works. These cars are said to be mega good in snow and on rough and steep ground.
drum Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Always liked these although i thought they were surprisingly expensive for a Lada. I knew a rabbit trapper who had one for about 10 years and was a rusty heap for all of that time. He thought it was the dog's hairy balls. It's no land rover mind...
Guest Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Only a Land Rover is a Land Rover, but these are now a lot cheaper than Landies in equivalent condition, and farmers swear by them. Bear in mind that these heaps were designed to be maintained by some toothless peasant called Igor by hitting the car with a large lump of metal or wood, and to be run on the cheapest potato peel vodka, assuming that Igor and his mates hadn't drunk it all straight out of the tank.
