calling all m.o.t testers

hi guys a quick brain picking really, is it legal m.o.t wise for me to convert one of my fleet to a brake bias box and have an in dash adjuster? im assuming that its a case of its passable as long as the brake force is the beyond the legal requirement, i just wanted to make sure

I believe it will be ok, as it's a modification. As long as there are no leaks, pipes chafing, unit secure etc, and the bias is set reasonably, I can see no issue. The brake effort needs to exceed 50% of the given weight of the vehicle, or lock up on more than half of the wheels. Can there be a cover mounted over the control, which requires a tool to remove? If that's the case, it would be "set" for road use, and could not be "nudged" during normal driving. Obviously we are not permitted to use tools to remove panels.

cool many thanks, being honest i was thinking of putting the adjuster where my radio fader knob used to be but being honest i could probably live without it as i i could set it and leave it as i wont really benefit from the adjuster for road use

I was thinking more along the lines of "If it's covered, we can't inspect it" kind of thing, and the obvious place is between the seats for the convenience of splicing the rear brake lines. So if it's there, but it's covered, we can't inspect it, it can't fail. Cough.

Soooo, technically, if I 'temporarily' hammer a bigger newer car over my smaller, older shite one for the next MOT it should pass?

Problem solved! :D

The bias box will be using 2x master cylinders and a balance bar to bias front to rear, the adjuster is a cable which turns the bar not spliced into the brake line so is removeable when not wanted, I understand your point can't see it can't test it though
