Old Taxi firm goes into administration.

It's absurd that a British design should use such crap as a Chinese Steering Box. One person that I know of has had their 2 month old, top of the range Taxi condemned due to the steering failure and had his license suspended for the pleasure. He's now not going to get it repaired under warranty and left with a £600pcm finance arrangement.

Will we never learn to leave the chinese to pocket dictionaries and calculators???

In expressing your ignorance and bigotry, I trust you did not use any computing, communication or internet linked products or connection devices originating in the far east...

Whom is the "we" to which you so arrogantly refer?

I would have thought that recent owner's would be able to return their vehicles under consumer legislation, and obtain full refunds.

In 1972 Heuliez came up with this taxi concept:

Interesting, that it took something that makes perfect sense 40 years to catch on everywhere, except where a Taxi must still look like an old Nissan Micra on Steroids and cost over 30 grand.

Btw., for sheer shiterism - the Heuliez used the drivetrain of the Peugeot 204. Wonderful.

According to the consumer legislation, the buyer must give the seller three opportunities to mend the fault before he can alter the sales contract (i.e. reverse the purchase, or get it replaced with a non faulty specimen). However, if the buyer returns the merchandise, the seller can charge him for usage for the duration the buyer was in possession of the good (i.e. used it).

However, there could be warranties and guarantees in addition to that. They would be a matter of private contracts and agreements between seller and buyer on top of the legislative requirements.

The 'item' is unfit for purpose as the problem is of such magnitude that it's use is prohibited on safety grounds by the PCO.

Add to that that it's the owner's only source of income, and purchased solely for that purpose.

So replacing the steering gears with functional ones won't be acceptable?

John Russell, chief executive of Manganese Bronze, said he was unable to say what had caused the problem or how long it would take to fix it. "We know that drivers aren't earning a livelihood if they can't drive. That is a real issue, and we aim to get them back on the road and earning money as soon as possible.

When the Chief Executive of the company makes this statement to the media, where do you suppose they obtain the replacement parts from?

The Checker cab has just about vanished from New York streets but the world moves on.

And what was it replaced with?

I thought Nissan won that contest in the end?

Warren's 100% on the ball. It's high time the hateful heaps of shit were consigned to the scrapheap. They're good fun to look at, but you don't want to pay top-dollar to travel in something which is a bit less comfortable than a clapped-out bus in Colombo.

And I also don't buy the 'OMG BALCK CABZ R SO ARDWERIN' line. About 3 years ago in Dakar, I returned to my hotel in the back seat of a 305 diesel which had a napkin stuffed where the fuel cap would normally reside. I've enjoyed ice-cold air con in the extreme heat of Maracaibo (over 40C) in 30 year-old yank shite, and Ive even had an Alfa 164 turn up at the airport to take me into the centre of Prague (again, that was barely a couple of years ago). All these cars work for a living, and they work far more, and in harsher conditions, than your average black cab which spends 4 hours at a time parked waiting for a fare from the train station and only ever makes any money on Friday and Saturday nights.

When the Chief Executive of the company makes this statement to the media, he should never have been Chief Executive of anything but a toy car factory, if that.

I think it's up to the taxi companies which car they chose to buy. There are a few more than the Confect and the Pisson that have type approval.

Sad thing that the yanks can't make a car that meets their transportation needs.

Plus they don't go sarf of the riva, not for nobody at this time of the night!

Black cabs, nostalgia ain't what used to be.

Being someone who works on Skodas every day, all i can say is they are bloody hard wearing buggers. If the yanks stuck a vw PD engine in a crown vic they'd be sorted, how many manhattan bimbo nutters are going to enjoy fecking about with a transit sliding door??

Ooh and also, i want an fx4. I've been in them and i reckon the back seat gives me a better sleep when pissed than my hallway floor.n

I afraid that nothing at all beats the comfort of a late night Bournemouth train out of Waterloo, especially when you meant to get off at surbiton.

Ah but if we're onto trains the Turbostar from Brummyjam to Nuneaton has seen its fair share of OMG NOT MEMORY FOAM Zzzzzzzzzzzz

Good find. This is what annoys me about the Americans, they refuse to adapt and end up building utter twat cars like mine. I've dragged this way off topic and i apologise but I love fx4 and crown vics and wish them to live forever!!! Weird I know but Taxi Chic does it for me. I once kept moving back in a taxi waiting line at MGM in vegas to get a 'vic . Can't beat a car with a story to tell powered by a v8 or a shonky black cab taking you weary home with its rattling bulkhead, chirpy starter, and a driver who insists on driving around in 5th at 20.

The MegaShite Cab Co had been on the slide for a while, their list of media announcements prior to the latest recall was the writing on the wall.

Not even SOGA will help if they go tits up...
