DSdriver Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 No, not the swimming togs, the Safari's speedometer is faffing about around the 40mph speed, needle going up and down like the proverbial. I think the usual cure is to disconnect it from the cable at the top end and dribble some oil down the inside of the cable, but what sort of oil to use (WD40 tends to congeal into a sticky mess which will probably make matters worse) and should I disconnect the bottom end as well to make sure the job's a goodun or is this a waste of time?
Le Fallows Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Presume your inner cable is sealed in? If so, what I use to do when I had motorbikes is attach a small funnel at the top of the cable (Make sure it's well sealed) then pour some clean engine oil down it (If you have any spare clean engine oil use that) then let it drain out awhile. WD40 is a bit too 'dry' for cables. There is an hydraulic cable oiler you can buy - think Frost sells one.
ashmicro Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Failing the above, you could try Comma Spray Silicone. I fixed my cable-operated bog flusher thing with this.
