Ford Explorer for sale - Sold

Exploder, as purchased off this forum at the start of the year as a stopgap with just a Months MOT / tax, while I fix my usual car. still not done it and the Explorer has been parked up for Months until I brought it home last week, and I can't see me using it again this side of summer. It's now taxed for a Month or thereabouts and MOT to something like Feb or March next year, it came with issues and I've seen to some of them, horrible brake judder like all big Fords cured with new discs and pads, crap handbrake fixed, did the rear pads, engine warning light cured by doing manifold gasket, timing chain would rattle at start up, oil change made it worse so pissed around with it for a bit then replaced tensioner plunger hydraulic thingies and added an oil gallery modification thing, this made a huge improvement, but I'm sure there was still a noise at times although silent at start up and tickover. The last thing I did was fix up the mirrors, still needing attention is the ABS light staying on, needs NSF sensor, a whole front hub assy comes with new sensor fitted at about 80 so would be the best bet, and could really do with tyres, rears are very low, fronts are two different makes so best to replace all. I gave the interior a quick clean, it came up well quite easily, carpets could use a vax.

The car itself, 4 litre gas guzzler, starts up ok when left standing for ages, goes like shit, way overpowered, handles better than I expected, loadspace is huge, unusually the aircon works, has all the electric bollox to distract the driver, but no clock. Seriously, no clock. Ford you are tarts. Although the fuel gauge has an arrow pointing to the side the filler is on, which is such a good idea I'll let the clock thing slide. MPG-wise I have no idea, only filled the tank a few times, did seem to go a fair distance between fills. I paid 400 for the thing and as is the fashion, spent as much again on it just to barely use it, in the unlikely event I were to put it on someones egay or the classifieds I'd try an 800 buy it now and be delighted if I got my money back, if somebody here wants it 600 seems fair, but bear in mind it needs tyres and tax soon.

Some pics.

Time for old Dessie to hang up the spurs and stetson and say goodbye to the yank iron.

To my regret I didn't get around to a spectacular failing in fitting some big rimz off a Mondeo, applying blackboard paint with a yardbrush then comissioning a photoshoot looking all double hard bastard.

'parrantly the valve end of the head has pisspoor oil circulation in both heads...hence the issues there which are common enough. An old T series trick (suffers from similar) is to add 2-300ml of ATF to the engine oil - this thins it just enough to ensure tappets are lubed and less noisey without thinning it too much to piss out of every gasket - tip from a mechanical engineer

The "addition" of the overhead camshafts on this engine that was previously OHV does look a bit poorly conceived, the rear camshaft drive uses what was previously the lower camshaft as a jackshaft, the tensioners seem to wear prematurely. As long as the both tensioners are replaced and the oil is changed regularly they are OK (remember US Fords specify 3000 mile oil changes). Dont forget to replace the rubber inlet manifold seals when you fit the 00M12 upgrade kit (the oil restrictor mod) and cover the inlet holes when you remove the inlet manifold - people here have dropped stuff into the inlets!.

I'll have to scour the charity shops for something Billy Ray Cyrus-ish to leave in, stick the volume to 80% and superglue the buttons.

Or maybe a gentlemans publication in the glovebox.

Inlet manifold gaskets were indeed leaking, 2 piece manifold made of plastic, held together with bolts that more resemble woodscrews than anything that belongs on an engine. Christ I hate modern cars.

Ford seem to be a huge fan of plastic inlet manifolds - total joke - the one on the oil burn mondeo is the shonkiest example of flapwank, cake and arse cheese paring cost engineering I've seen this side of Tibet!

This thing has now become a liability, tax is out and I don't want to tax something I won't use, so to ensure it's snapped up promptly this will be placed in the glovebox.

No, your eyes do not deceive, no, the pages are not stuck together, (thank you clingfilm).

Only snag is I'm up to my neck in crap at the moment having an enforced clearout, no time for any faffing around.

How much would it cost to ship it to Jackson MS?

Have you not heard of A frames? Otherwise I suppose I could look into building a really really big catapult if you can arrange some old matresses into a landing pad.

Just a suggestion.

I thought Scootsville was having it?

I'm worried that rocket powered ramp delivery might scratch the paintwork a little, and I am also concerned about how the USA might view the arrival of a Intercontinental Ballistic Explorer in its airspace en route to our ranch here in the Deep South, I have a king size mattress available though.
