Volvo 460 Mk 1 Door Mirrors - Wanted

Not going to push the boat out but I'd like to try and get a set of better door mirrors for my shite - a - lite 460 before Cholmondeley. They're unpainted black plastic and were only fitted on the Mk1 400s. Tried the VOC - nowt. Might have turned up a set in Germany but he isn't keen on international post.

Anyone know of an old GLT or Turbo mouldering away that has decent door mirrors? They have to be electric because that's what's on the car. There must be one somewhere, they're the same as the ones fitted to the 440 GLTs and Turbos.

My first car was a H -reg 460 and, being a 18 year old lad, I had a little oops! moment in it and knackered the passenger door mirror against a wall.

The mirror housing turned out to be made of pure unobtainium. I resorted to the Volvo main dealer and, although the car was only 9 years old at the time their only helpful* suggestion was that I could replace it with one from the facelifted model (the one with the grille as part of the bonnet and 850 style tail lights). Which would have necessitated buying one for each side of the car, or it would have looked well RONG. I got the impression that when Volvo updated bits on a car they sort of expected owners of second hand ones to do the same. Or it could just have been the dealer not wanting to hold much stock.

No joy at any of the local scrappies either (this was in the days before I had access to t'internet, so a wider search than local yards wasn't possible), so I did a shameful thing. Please do not judge me - the passage of time has made me much wiser. I purchased from the local car accessories place a pair of 'DTM style' carbon fibre (effect) door mirrors.

In mitigation this was a cheaper option than buying one odd mirror from the main dealer, so it was kind of a mingebag solution. Not a faultless one though - at anything over 45mph they shook like Joe Cocker mid-concert. Luckily, no photos of this atrocity exist.

Eventually, as the DTM things were unusable at speed, I managed to get (with a LOT of searching) a pair of later mirror assemblies from a 440 in a scrappy and threw the faux racing crap away.

No help at all with your search - just making the point that this has been a rare part since at least 1998/99.

I had thought about doing that. I suspected the later ones might fit. I'd have to get the coloured caps sprayed though. They are seriously difficult to get hold off, and like a twat I let the ones of that 440 Turbo in Nottingham pass me by. I thought I'd get another set easily. Because I'm a twat.

Thats the sort of thing where if you want them in a hurry you'll struggle, or pay shitloads. However if you just wait till a set pop up you'll get em for £2. I say just keep an eye on the bay, someone will be breaking one before too long and you'll almost certainly be the only person asking for the mirrors.

And the mirrors off the German 460 have been sold. GR 8.
