A household up the road had a brand-new XJ40 Sovereign when I was a kid. I'm not 100% certain on this but I'm pretty sure the list price on these at the time was (well) over a hundred grand. Depreciation ahoy!

I keep getting tempted to buy a alte XJ6 as I think they still look cool and you can get a reasonable one for sod all. Someone on here had one a few months ago for just a few hundred pounds didn't they? Was speaking to a chap outside my house a while back and he had got a lovely one for just £700.

You should get one, they're great cars! Late XJ40s are robust and reliable things in my experience, but look for rust. They are going off the road at a truly frightening rate now sadly, often scrapped for trivial problems. They will be fairly rare cars in a couple of years, at the current rate.
