I was "hanging around" at my local garage and they had a 54 plate Scenic in. Cambelt snapped, the garage wanted nothing to do with it so it was likely going for scrap.

Doesn't sound like an end-of-life failure but a lot of garages don't seem to want to touch French stuff of that era, for the reason that once they've worked on it it'll be their problem when the next failure occurs. And the next. And the next. And the next.

There were still some 'enhanced trade in' beta's round the back of the garage when i started and i have also read the stories about the 'enhanced trade in ' beta's being scrapped at crewkerne sp* at under 3 years old.

I remember it well (1982 into 1983), and was a regular visitor to Hallett Metals where they were crushed. Must have been 50 - 100 Betas of all models including Monte Carlos, all stacked 4 cars high. They were relieved of the alloys and the radios, and crushed whole.

I got given one of the condemned Beta saloons in 1985, a brown 1980 2000. It, and two Spiders were rescued by a guy who did a lot with Lancia and ran a pair of Martini striped Deltas in 1985. He lived in Hermitage near Newbury, can't remember his name. Ian Walker? I scrapped the Beta when I couldn't get a logbook for it, and it was pretty bad underneath.

On other threads, someone mentioned a 56 reg Twingo in a yard, also someone mentioned a mate 'weighing in' a 06 Laguna.

I've seen a '55' reg Peugeot 407 being broken up, no damage just engine fubarred.

Flood damage and police mandated 'must not go back on road' (usually ringers or cars involved in major crimes) accounts for some of the damage free newish cars you see in salvage yards.

There's an Autozam AZ 1 that's in a yard in Preston or somewhere near me because it was involved in something shady. At one point the yard in question was getting so many inquiries about it they moved it indoors.

then there's the weren't damaged until trumpton got to play cars; like the Police traffic car that got shopped after PC Plod sat an accident victim in the car to keep warm but they ( the accident victim) had suspicious \9 of an actual injury) neck pain so the ambulance crew wanted to remove them back and up onto a Extrication board rather than spin them round and extricate them through the door ( which isn't the 'gold standard' if someone is not time critical)

Was talking about this today!

It was a BMW 530d touring that lost the roof.... not a cheap car in full plod spec :)
