  1. thanks for the replies guys... i will be informing solicitor and doovla tomorrow that i am STILL the owner of the vehicle and what the nuts &bolts of the case are and that the car should never have been sold on..

and as i still have the log book/m.o.t and insurance for the car as well as a spare set of keys :wink:

if i saw it in the street would i be legally within my rights to jump in and retake ownership of the car?

like repo men do if money is owed or if it is a ringer and therefore doesn't belong to the person in posession of the car?

Tricky one... I sold a car to a so called mate years ago. Being a soft git and him on low pay with a family to feed, I let him have it on payments. He paid £100 out of a grand, then left it outside my place 12 months later with a note asking me to MOT it again for him. I thought bollocks and didn't hand it back, my reasoning being the car is 90% mine and the V5 was still in my name. I lent the car to another mate who popped to the post office and ended up surrounded by armed police. They recovered the car and I ended up having a criminal record for car theft.

On that basis, my advice would be don't take it if you see it parked up..

  2. I don't think i've ever seen a black one before, looks good.

What happened with the Strada you found? has it been extracted yet?

Andrew353w went to rescue it for me but the brakes were seized so he couldn't A Frame it, so I stuck it FOC on RR and someone had it! It was more than a tad rusty!

    Last spotted on Ebay.

  3. This...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1965-Mercedes-Ben ... 3360dbfaf9

...is just about as perfect as it gets in my eyes.

Thats the one I had stolen from outside my unit in Oswestry in the mid 90's, was Jersey registered at the time......

According to the ad' it actually Bens not yours.

I don't know what would be more annoying, never seeing it again or seing that it's been sold on and in someone elses hands...

    Bens?

Believe me, it's more annoying seeing it again!

  4. Good luck Espatic, it'd be great if you get it back.

Hey talking of Oswestry remember that flamed Merc estate opposite your old place, think the bloke ran the pub? It was a definate 'Marmite' job and I seem to recall the bloke was into his late fifties at least.

Lol that brings back memories! It was a W124 saloon and It belonged to a big hairy dealer called Martin. He parked it in the pub but didn't run the place. His car was probably the only one in the carpark that didn't belong to me  Not long after the Merc was painted he had the back window put through and they nicked his speakers. He was SO pissed off that they had damaged his precious Merc and he could no longer listen to Sweet at deafening levels that he immediately called the cops. Trouble is, he was so angry he didn't think about the huge amount of cannabis growing in his house and back garden at the time.

Before the W124, he had a metallic red W116 on 5 spoke pentas and a boomerang aerial on the boot.

As for my old one, I really feel for the people who have spent their wedge on it in one way or another and thats what stopped me going for it last time it was on ebay.

But I also spent money on it, £500 to buy it in 1994 and over a year of my life getting the body to paint stage. It's my car and I'd really like it back.

  5. Got nothing from that time, moved away and moved on. If the police still have the report it may be worth going for it. Wasn't insured as it was being restored. I'm sure the bloke I bought it off is still about, he was a trader and more than likely still has a record of it somewhere.

  6. Do you have a claim to it?

I did ask opinion on here recently when the last ebay vendor put it up for sale.

Like I said, it was mid 90's and I gave up hope of ever seeing it again a long time ago.

Thought the usual at the time, weighed in or bangered. Bugger was pretty much ready for paint at the time too. I did speak with the previous vendor and he sort of confirmed it was Jersey plated at one time, then pretty much backed away when I told him it's history.

I'm unsure how long the police keep their stolen car reports for but I think 14/15 years is asking a bit much.

  7. You can keep on making up these scenarios but the anvil falling from the roof of your house as you stepped out the front door would get you first, if your luck is that bad.

Slate fell off the roof one day and sliced straight through the roof of my Anglia about 3 mins after my dad had just got out. Would've gave him hell of a parting.

If it's your time there's no ncap rating that will save you.

Personally, if I was in to banger racing I'd rather be racing a Farina or Audi 100 than any Ncap 5 star car.

This generation is far too paranoid about safety. We didn't have seat belts or booster seats as kids, we used to sit on cushions on the floor in the back of various Mk1 Transits, CA's and EA's.

It would be interesting to see what the difference is in child mortality/serious injury rates between the 70's, 80's, 90's and present day.

  8. What even is the point? It's not tax-free, I fail to see how the ID from an 80s mini is desirable to anyone? Or am I missing something here?

The impression I got was that it could be used to ring a stolen car. Quite amusing though, the blatant "ring ring wink wink" of the advert, with the V5C, numberplates and chassis plates all together in that photo.

He's always at it. If you look at his feedback someone bought a Mini van off him that turned out to be just a V5 and tags.

I've always wanted a Mini special and I thought £75 was a steal, so I pressed buy it now. Sent him a message asking for postcode and is the car rolling and strange enough, he didn't reply but instead opened a dispute saying I no longer wanted the car and I bought it in error. So I fired it back saying I didn't accept that and I want the car. After all, he does mention the car in the advert and he cant say about the pic he put as it's neither red, a Mini special or even a Mini built in 1979.

    It'll be fun.

  9. Well 1982 had Kraftwerk hit No1 in Feb, Goombay Dance Band in March (German born singer) and Eurovision winner Nicole in May.

Or 1986 we had Austrian Falco with German language Rock Me Amadeus, "Berlin" with Take My Breath Away and "Europe" with The Final Countdown :wink:

  10. I've been thinking the same, after scrappage and with the price of frag feed it seems hard to get a cheap runner.

Just picked up another Espace though, 1 owner from new and with tax and test for £100 delivered. It's restored my faith somewhat.

  11. A 300e Thames van with Disney characters painted all over it. Chopped in for a '66 Morris 1100 which he reckoned was the worse thing he ever did. I remember him sending it for scrap in 1971.

Fast forward 20 years and my girlfriend was telling me about the first car she remembers her dad having, a small Ford van with Disney characters painted on it.
