SECURITY FOR GARAGE

Recommended Posts

My concrete garage is at the rear of the house and has an up and over door into a rear passageway, and a small side door, inside locked 6 foot gates.

The side door has a hasp and padlock and an original 20 year old key lock, well worn, the up and over has a handle type standard lock in the middle of the door, which is opened by a key, the big door is quite new. we have alley gates fitted and it's not a bad area to live.

I would still like to make it more secure without spending much money, as recent outlays have been on the HIGH side! the only thing i have done is to drill holes in the concrete, below the drain holes in the big door and i stick a couple of loose bolts in there, so if the lock was opened the door would not, of course the drain holes have a purpose and can't drain :)

A door defender seems like a good idea but i don't think the concrete base goes far enough out to fit one, don't want to buy one and find it won't fit, as they are quite expensive. Any ideas for a cheap alternative, i have loads of padlocks, by the way!! and i had an alarm worked by batteries, but the wife chucked it out, like she does with everthing i keep for future use :(

Any ideas much appreciated, Doug

MOAR concrete!

Unless you are a lentilist or something, this has to be easiest and cheapest.

Dig hole, add concrete, add post, job done.

The only thing with door defenders is they stop the door opening up and over due to them being in the middle of the door. You need something down in each bottom corner to stop the little shits bending the corner of the door up, crawling in and pissing off with your gear. Or from stopping them from lifting the door over the defender once inside. That is something my neighour could tell you about.

Ive got one of these in both bottom corners of my garage, into the concrete base they go.

Looking for an easy way, dig hole , means drill through existing concrete, buy some concrete/ sand mix, pay 40 odd quid for decent defender, father in law could have made one, at work a few years ago, sorry i did not ask him, plus some damn fool local kid would probably do what they did a few doors down, and pull it out before it set.

I'm not a lentilist, i'm a doorman, (but i do know what it means) by the way did you mean more not MOAR?
