dieselnutjob Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 I noticed recently that the bottom of both A pillars are not really connected to the sills on my 604 anymore on the inside you couldn't see it because the carpet covered the damage on the outside you can't see it because the were the A pillar joins the sill is inside a void inside the front wing on modern cars this area is protected by plastic wheel arch liners but on the 604 there is a steel plate joined to the inner wing that makes a kind of splash guard. it fills in the gap between inner and outer wing but there is a small gap between the plate and the outer wing so a small amount of debris and water does get in there i think that the sunroof drain tubes also drain into that place i like to be able to hose out and keep and eye on bits of the car like that so when the wings come off i'm highly temped to cut off most of these plates leaving maybe just an inch to which I could then screw some tough rubber or plastic. this could then be removed once a year to hose out the mud/salt that has gotten in there any reason I shouldn't do this?
