Bouncy Yank Shite

This fell into my lap today, and here it is, looking slightly the worse for wear...

Nice and rusty...

And none of the instruments seem to work...

And I might have a small tie rod issue. Aim it at something and it'll go where it wants...

...But apart from that (or because of all that) It's lovely! Does about 11 miles to the gallon, is noisier than dropping a bag of spanners down a staircase and seems to be "breathing" a bit of oil from the rear of the engine somewhere. Top speed is about 65. Although I wouldn't recommend it.

It's been off the road (literally) For about a year, it's gonna be my daily for the winter here (The advantage of living in Arizona!) Or until it explodes and I have to perform major surgery on it.

Great!! Have had many a fun trip in these. From the look of the Jeep logo on the steering wheel and gauges, this is AMC-era? So CJ-7 maybe (1976-1986)?So many parts, parts cars, etc.Just keep it slow! Had a brutal scare in a more modern Wrangler back in college, riding in the back seat of one doing 65 mph on a slushy highway. After we arrived safely, I had to kill the driver. Is yours a 4-banger or the 'legendary' inline 6?

wow, not to be sniffed at, greatz fer raggin about forests

Yup, it's a CJ7. It's a six, with - I think - a solid front axle so it's massively agricultural to drive. It's MUCH more wayward at speed than the 93 I had earlier in the year. 45mph seems to be about as fast as I'll drive it. With my eyes open, anyway.I'll stick it in a suitably deserty location later on and take some more pics of it.

Yup. No IFS. And about 4inch of play in the steering. I should have stuck it in the scary cars thread. I can see a new set of steering gubbins in my immediate future. Or a car / hedge interface seems likely

If I was given your description without seeing the pics I would have guessed at a Series Land Rover.

Wear in everything, I reckon. It did a 40 mile round trip commute today without much of a hiccup. Pog, I was looking for a landie, but out here they're all OMG4WDOFFROADWEAPON - there's a monster beardy mud plugging scene tax on em - I haven't seen one advertised for less than 15k in any type of condition. Bumhats. :(

Like this, for example:

All the Defenders here are huge money. The biggest seller is Copley Motorcars in Boston. Lovely people, great selection of classics and Defenders, but only for the rich and stupid.

How about this 1993 NAS Defender 110 for $88,000? Oh sorry, just sold. Credit crunch? Who now?
