STUNO Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Went to visit a goldmine the other day. Reason was that a derelict pumphouse that housed a beam engine pump for a former mine has been moved to a new site as the ground it was on was unstable due to mine collapse. A number of houses nearby had already gone down a hole. For google mappers the town is Waihi and the mine is in the middle of the town , the photos don't do justice to the size of the mine! And a garage in the town with close parking in the foregroundAnd just for fun a 70's Aust Ford Fairlane for sale. It must have been imported recently as it still wears Aust platesLPG Equipped
STUNO Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 ahhh but did you find gold NOOOOO Someone else was there first
Ratdat Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Where did all the earth and rock go that came out of it?!
STUNO Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Good point ratdat..The ore is taken to the top and "processed" to remove the gold and then taken by a conveyor system to an area to he east and used as fill in a valley. The whole thing will look pristine when the mine is closed. Have a look on google to see the whole operation. I have heard the town is looking forward to the best swimming pool ever in a few years too
Mr Lobster Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Very impressive, a seriously deep hole!Garage looks good too, the whole scene just looks appealing, weather, garage the lot. Jealous!!
Station Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Is that a man made hole or has a big quarry been mined deeper/wider over the years?I notice MR2 alloys on that Toyota!
