J-Rod Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 What a bizarre country (in many ways, not just car related). Anyway, here are some spotz from a few journeys up and down their slightly crazy roads, which have these things on them... Don't look like much, do they? I can assure you they bloody are - and they're on motorways every few miles. The normal roads have these... Bit hard to tell from that pic but it's practically a kerb in the middle of the road. Hardly any stop lights in the country, so they stick them in to calm the traffic. Not that it does much good. Everyone overtakes anywhere they can (and can't or shouldn't). However, most of the motorways are about as full as this.. ...well, there is a speed limit. Not really enforced though. Do as you wish. Just watch out for the devil's own "calming measures"... Now for some shite (well, some shite anyway) All the hotel staff are ferried about in old US school busses. There are LOADS of them Lots of US trucks too. Mack + a Skoda. Not an everyday occurrence. 707 nose... They're not too fussed about numberplates. At all. Also, those guys on the moped? Average moped occupancy there is about 2.8 people, I think. Most have at least 3 riding on them. More or less new Toyota Camry. This is what the rest of the world drives (apparently) For a county where everyone is corrupt, has sporadic leccy and there's quite a bit of poverty, there are an awful lot of nearly new cars...! Taxi a long way from home.. Prime shite. Stage left. ...and finally, there were a few of these mad looking things knocking about. Finally, finally... if anyone wants to help me set up a business importing Integra DC2s, step right this way. I know a country with a plethora of them. brickwall 1
Slappy Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I love seeing different car marques turn up in places that you wouldn't expect (see also plethora of Vauxhalls in Sweden thread). Sooo, Skodas in the Dominican Republic, eh? Actually sold there or imported in a bit later?
J-Rod Posted October 22, 2015 Author Posted October 22, 2015 Yeah was a bit of a surprise to see so many. I saw one and thought that someone had probably moved there and brought it with them... and then they started to crop up everywhere. It's a weird old mix of cars - lots of Japanese (as you'd expect) and quite a few Yanks too... but then a whole smorgasbord of Euros.
