Surely a request like this is exactly what the FOI system was invented for? It seems like an excellent idea to me.

On the subject of FOI I always used to think, 'I'm not sure what to make of Tony Blair, on the face of it he seems to be an absolute disgrace but at least he gave us the FOI act so he can't be all bad surely'

Then when his autobiography came out he said in it that the FOI act had been one of the biggest mistakes of his premiership. Brilliant, at least that allowed me to come to a clear conclusion about him.

Is the FOIA request to obtain info or just to jerk the chain of the organisation?

I am a big fan of FOIA,  Blair was a disaster, and I speak as a die hard lefty.

Well, he ended up as a disaster, but we also got improved schools,,minimum wage, civil partnerships, and decent intervention in Kosovo and Sierra Leone, all good, but also lots of terrible stuff.

OMG POLITIX

I am not sure that lobbing FOIA requests is the right tactic.

What would you suggest?

I have used the FOIA to get evidence of poor handling of paperwork by DVLA in the past. It's not ideal, but it seems to be the only way to get information to back up complaints.

I'm glad there are people that haven't had problems with DVLA, but the chances are greatly reduced the less vehicles you have and more importantly the fewer "out of the ordinary" problems you come across.

If persistent unlawful conduct can be shown

I can feel a FOI application coming on. :)
