Guest Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 The “Sandy Landy†is a formerly loved Series III SWB Land Rover (diesel) from 1981. It was once a blue and cream coloured farmer’s van, but is now configured as a seven seat Station Wagon, with stylish brush paintwork in sand and green. It has been off road for about three years now, and needs restoration. I was quoted £800 for MOT work last year. I would estimate that chassis and bulkhead need attention, as do the electrics. The diesel engine and the gearbox with Fairey overdrive seemed OK when the car was last in use. The wheels are fine, and the car has decent, albeit old, tall, skinny and knobbly Michelin tyres, with a pile of six spare wheels and tyres from an Army Landy. These tyres are great on everything except soft sand. The bonnet has the spare wheel carrier, and seems solid. The leaf springs are pretty gunked up, but still worked when last driven. The interior has the so-called deluxe seats in the front, and bench seats in the back. All seat have belts. The doors aren’t too bad. There is a hole under one seat box. The brakes had some work done by a Landy specialist a few years ago, and should be OK, subject to having stood for a while. The speedo does not work, but there is a spare. The radiator is relatively new. The car is accompanied by another almost complete diesel SWB, a few years older, which has already donated its safari roof to the Sandy Landy, and has many parts for scavenging. It has a knackered chassis, but an engine and gearbox that may be as good as that on the Sandy Landy. It last ran about four years ago. The first three photos show the Sandy Landy in its glory days, and the rest show it in its present sadder state, and also show the green donor car, which always looks pretty sad. I think that these two could combine to form one happy Landy, or, if needs must, be broken up for usable spares. I aim to sell both together. I also have a Landy handbook, restoration manual, Land Rover history, and a few bits and bobs, all included in the auction. Both V5s are present and in my name. I have some bills somewhere, I think, but they may have been lost in a house move. I am not a mechanic, and cannot gauge the true condition of the car or the work needed to restore it. It is sold without warranty, save that I am the owner and the car has no finance on it. Viewing may be possible by arrangement. The cars are stored by a friend in north Norfolk. They will need low loadering away when sold. I will take £1,000 for the pair. I am trying for more on eBay, but, whatever. You can pay by bank transfer, or in cash on collection. I would prefer to sell the two cars together, but will consider offers for one. I am not going to strip them or break them, so if you want parts, please buy the whole thing.
Bobthebeard Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Ahhhh, if only I had some spare money....Ho hum...
Guest Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 C'mon man, pimp your granny or something. It's only money!
Guest Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 The ASA has just told me to say that the Mini Cooper in one of the shots is not included in this giveaway deal. BONUS: the keyring has a little Land Rover on it. Win!
brickwall Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Damn! I don't have space.... These always come along at the wrong time.
Guest Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Burn down your neighbour's house and put a shed on the plot. Job jobbed!
Albert Ross Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 How much do you want for the 6 tyres clogging up the load space?
Guest Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Thera are six wheels and tyres. Dark green wheels, classic Michelin knobblies, decent tread. The wheels are not rare, but the tyres are. Say 250 quid?
Guest Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Don Draper advises me to use a picture of an exotic foreign bird to help the sale, so here you are:-

Say 250 quid? Oooh... erm no ta. A touch salty for me. I was thinking something more like £50... I got my last set of 6 G90 Goodyears (4 unused still with stickers on, 2 worn to 8mm) for £45, still on 2 years later... My last set of 8 XCLs cost me £32.20 plus fuel to collect...I have three of these animals to feed. I'm in Yorkshire, we don't spend money. Thanks for responding though....!
Guest Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Sorry, but I am only going by eBay prices. I sold five Lotus Elan wheels without tyres last week for 275. I would drop to 150 on the autoshite priceplan, which only leaves the cost of the Yorkshireland import licence, but otherwise will take my chances on eBay for a bit.
