OT - iPlayer Question

Oi computer shiteists.

I know someone on here did this - made their iPlayer work in a foreign country to circumvent the IP restrictions on content. The problem I have is a bit like that.

I have a friend on a course at University who's Australian, and is trying to watch Oz-specific content on their iPlayer equivalent. She's on the Uni ethernet network in accomodation and gets blocked when she tries to watch it. The player loads and she can watch internationally coded stuff - but specific things get fucked off because of her IP address.

I'm fucking hopeless at this sort of thing but could someone in a PM explain how one might get around such a problem? I think it has something to do with with fooling the player into thinking you're in the country of origin by using public IP proxy servers.

Bear in mind as a shit ex YRKSHIRMAN I have to explain how to do it to an Ozzie lass who's also fairly crap with PCs.

Indeed, much obliged.

WAT.

Use an Australian IP Proxy?

You'll need to Google for a current one, but the info is out there.

Please elaborate. How does she go about changing her UK one? Or does she just log on to one?

Three things:

1. Install Firefox

2. Install the FoxyProxy add-on for Firefox. RTFM.

3. Get an open proxy server list and lob the details into FoxyProxy. You can have free proxys (which are slow and unreliable) or paid-for proxies (which aren't). You'll need an Australian proxy server obviously if you pal wants Australian content...
