Today me and two mates passed our category G driving tests. You can drive a traction engine on a car licence but not a roller and despite having driven engines since before we could legally drive a car I'd never bothered before. However having spent all winter getting this one going again after 14 years resting I thought I may as well do it properly, and got two mates roped in too. The test is the same as the cat F one I took when I was 16 to drive tractors. The examiner comes out to you and you choose the test location. I booked all three online and the lady examiner rang up full of enthusiasm, she had done a steam roller test before but not for a long time and not on her own. After getting lost she arrived at 11 and we got going. I went first, two junctions, round a parked car, reverse round corner, another junction, another reverse, emergency stop and some Highway Code questions. Job jobbed! All in all, the most enjoyable driving test I've done.
