Albert Ross
In response to the other thread, let's reverse the time machine..... warren t claim
Passed test 1987. This would of been a 1969 model (older than me).
scruff
Mine's going to be boring cos I didn't pass my test till 2003. So I'll do from the year I was born Mine1968 Peugeot 204 (1995 Peugeot 205) 1924 Rover pushbike (1952 Land Rover) 1948 Austin A40 (Closest thing to a 1986 Mini) 1972 Austin 1100 (Rover 200)
seth
40ish years old in '93 Herald equivalent would be Standard 8 I guess.
Lord Sterling
Passed test in 2004. Against the cars I've got now, these are probably what would be their equivalents then: 1995 Rover Sterling, 16 years old now, would become a 1988 Sterling, 16 years old in 2004: My 2 other Rover Sterlings, (1987 and 1990 models) are 24 and 21 years old respectively now, in 2004 they would become 1980 and 1983 SD1s respectively then: My 1998 K11 Micra, 13 years old now, in 2004 it would become a 13-year old 1991 K10 Micra:
Nervy Si
/\ /\ That little Standard is nice. 15 years old in 1995, and probably already sporting composite* front wings: *mixture of P38 and ripped-up Exchange&Mart pages
eddyramrod
I think I understand this....9 year old pickup with extra seating, now:and then (1978):39 year old large Ford, now:and then:45 year old small Austin, now:and then:I've chosen an Austin 10 as the A40 wasn't the smallest Austin you could buy in 1966.I can't include the Mazda yet as it isn't officially part of the fleet. Yet.
Pillock
I passed in '97. I am cruising the hood in a 16 year old BMW 3-series. In 1997, a 16 year old BMW 3-series looked like this:
Negative Creep
I passed in 2001 and had a 1983 Nova. So I guess that would be an early Corsa B if I passed now
Pete-M
Ok, so I passed my test in '88. Now's the XJR which is 17 this year, so then would have been probably... Ok, it's an XJ12 so it's a '72, but it's close enough. My XJR is a '95 model year. The Heep Grand Cherokee is 13, so from 1975 it'd have to be; The Wagoneer. The 604 is 27 this year. Hmm. Er. Something from '61 that's like the 604. Er. Need help with this one. The Escort is 33. So from 1955 it's got to be the.... no, I'm stumped again. scaryoldcortina
Oh, I'm confused..... I passed my test 21 years ago, so my 1989 sierra sapphire would be a 1968 cortina instead. OK. fine. My 1968 cortina would then be a 1947 prefect? 10? I don't know! aaagh! my brain hurts.
Pete-M
I think it's the car you drive now, what the equivalent car would be when you passed your test. So in my case 17yr old Jag now, so a 17yr old Jag in '88 would have been a 1971 model. There's another 'pointless google images thread' (®Mr L. Hatred) down there with what's the equivalent now for what you had then. So the Mk4 Cortina I had when I passed would be a Mondeo if I passed now... or something. I quite like this stuff. Barrett.in.the.USA
The 604 is 27 this year. Hmm. Er. Something from '61 that's like the 604. Er. Need help with this one. The Escort is 33. So from 1955 it's got to be the.... no, I'm stumped again. Funny that, there wasn't really any French equivalent for the 604 back then. I reckon you'd have to 'settle' for something like an Alfa 2600 Berlina, inasmuch as it's a big unloved flawed thirsty dynamically dubious unfashionable barge that's all but forgotten now (then). Your Escort would surely be something like a Popular - Small basic family Ford that gained a huge following for aftermarket tuning and had success in saloon car racing, but in later life was often striped down and its mechanical components used to build cheap GRP kit cars.... scaryoldcortina
Yeah, I got that bit, my problem is that I'm using an '89 sierra and a '68 cortina at the moment......
Pete-M
inasmuch as it's a big unloved flawed thirsty dynamically dubious unfashionable barge that's all but forgotten now Oi, the 604 was dynamically ace. Reckoned to match the handling of the 5 series to the ride of a Jag in its day. Didn't sell well because it's a weirdo. Not space age like the CX or hard as nails in a Regan / Cowley way like the Granada. Not modern like the SD1 (although it's a lot more advanced mechanically) . Just a big square thing that happens to do things well. Yeah, I got that bit, my problem is that I'm using an '89 sierra and a '68 cortina at the moment...... Oook. That's a quandry innit. Shep Shepherd
I passed my test in 1995, so TV2's equivalent back then would have been a late model 'big bumper' Volvo 245 or 265: The Volvo's equivalent would have been a late model 'big bumper' Volvo 145: It goes without saying that I'd have been very happy with my lot

cort16
I passed my test in 1993 so I'd be in an Audi 100. I've got a 2.0 170bhp dizzler now so I'd probably be the 115bhp 2.5 back then. My SD1's 27 years old so in 1993 that would probably get me quite an early P6. Probably a 2000 and not a v8 as my SD1's a 2600.
tonedepear
I passed in 1998, so: Becomes... actually I've no idea. I can't find anything obscure and eastern enough in late 80's saloon flavour. I'd say a 4dr nissan sunny or bluebird, but they were too common then, probably. Fuck it, I'll run with a bluey, cos they're ace.

CreepingJesus
Ok, so...let's see if I've got this. Passed test in '91, 12-yr old 1.6 Megane, 15-yr old Mondeo Ghia. '79 Renault 12... ...and '76 Cortina Ghia Actually, those definitely meet with my approval! Especially the driving lamps on the 'Tina.
CortinaDave
Hmm... I passed my test in 1997 so ... 1997 Nissan Primera becomes an '83 Bluebird.. overheadvalve
I passed my test in 1978 and now i drive one of these as a daily:Or the Rover 25 which we also own.So, well what would be a 20 year old Rover in 1978? It is strange that they struggled to sell them but the depreciation was truly horrible. I passed my test in 1988, so my 1992 Jaguar Sovereign's equivalent would be a 1969 Daimler Sovereign.
