ashmicro
"Here comes The President's Car, Cadillac One...."BANG! The number of times that was shown on RTE (Irish State TV, we get it in NI too) was unreal. That thing hit the deck with some bang. If the driver hadn't had his sunglasses on, he'd have seen that coming

Justin Case
From 'What Car' 1914:The latest Austro-Daimler is very economical for a car of its size and there are ample cup-holders, but we do believe that the bullet-proofing should be improved at the next face-lift

eddyramrod
It's rather difficult to get documentation to support this but... in 1974, just before the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, President Makarios was deposed in a coup. Fleeing in fear of his life, he was driven to a monastery in the Paphos area in a Ford Granada. MY Ford Granada!* *Subject to corroboration of course. PaykanHunter
Gaddafi is known to have an extensive exotic car collection, including at least one Veyron. You would imagine the dictator of an oil rich country where most people live in poverty would but who knew he had a thing about electric cars? Apparently he had many and the green and gold FIAT is said to have been his favorite. For more click here.

eddyramrod
It's a Popemobile! Specifically, a Leyland truck; two of these and two Range Rovers were built for the visit to UK of Pope John Paul 2 in about 1981/2. The truck museum at Leyland has one of the big ones, as shown, and a load of information about them.

Betaphile
Not sure if this was covered elsewhere on here at the time - apologies if so - but back in November La Repubblica reported that there was at least one upside to the economy drive in Italy. "Economy begins at home... can't expect others to tighten their belts if we don't set an example..." ...to wit, de-mothballing old domestic shite for use by government officials, apparently an initiative set in motion by Monti personally. Seems Berlusconi had an armoured Quattroporte he never used - preferring his A8, presumably because he's a massive twat - but the media raised a storm about the defence department's recent purchase of 19 QPs (ker-ching). Check this out: The new bloke, in a Thesis According to the article, there's everything here from Type Four Cromas and Themas to Bravos, Dedras, Kappas, 164s, 166s...
