Whilst I have had the car over 10 years, the hood is new and that cost nearly double what I paid for the 9-3 convertible! Also, this arrived back after 2 years away and is now the local daily

As with a lot of folk I didn't think this year had been particularly busy but a scroll through my camera roll would suggest otherwise.

The Kangoo 182 is still here. It plods along nicely, goes like fuck when required and is useful for tat hauling. Also makes me smile when I drive it so what's not to like?

The Range Rover is not without its foibles but it's surprised me by doing around 8k miles this year in blissful comfort. I love it.

The 2zz powered MR2 I built a few years ago (shared with a friend) is still here. As always too few track days were done with it but it did get a respray.  Goes like fuck and has been pretty reliable. Needs a new exhaust and a few other bits and also driven more!

This lovely big hunk of Britishness is still here and sorned for the winter. I saved it from 20 years in a garage and resurrected it. It's had too little use but is a lovely thing to drive. It'll likely get moved on next year though. Don't all rush at once...

After threatening for years to buy an Opel Manta the right one turned up at the right time. Shipped from God knows where in the southwest by @worldofceri/ @Inspector Morose

it's 1 owner car from new but was pretty rusty, although I have taxed worse examples of these. Over 20 years ago...

I stripped it down and it's currently with @GingerNuttz for a wee* bit of work.

Bought with a hangover because it seemed like a good idea. A Mégane 1.5dci. it had a dodgy clutch which I fixed, also had new brakes and glow plugs/glow plug relay and an MOT. Currently undergoing proving trials to make sure it works before some cosmetics and getting flogged.

A Seat Ibiza 1.4 TDI with the 3 cylinder PD engine. Offered to me by someone local as it had ran out of MOT I took it on, fixed it up and sold it. Fairly horrible little car but it sold quickly.

Sacrificed to the Manta mission.

The Manta is getting slightly* modified and a modern running gear is on the cards. This MX5 donated a 2 litre Duratec (fucked) as well as gearbox and other parts to make the Duratec work in the Manta.

Don't worry, it was fucking rotten. 2009 with 85k miles on it...

A Mazda6 Sport. This was broken (more rust) but more importantly came with a 2.5 version of the Duratec in the MX5. The engine will be rebuilt, mated to the rwd gubbins from the MX5 and slotted into the Manta.

Lovely...but I could see the bodywork decaying day by day with the car having to live outside.  Has been passed on to a friend up north where it can live in a garage.  They have already started on the list of jobs I'd just never got to because working on it on the driveway was horrible.

 

1996 Citroen Xantia Activa.

Cracking car, but was getting on in miles and starting to get needy as a daily.  Felt it was too special a car to keep on daily driver duty, it should be cherished and enjoyed as the technical marvel that it is.

Probably soon to be moved on as I think she will want an engine rebuild or replacement to be reliable long term and that's a game I'm really not interested in getting involved in.

Been out and about a lot this year, hoping to keep using the car a lot this coming year and hopefully get to a couple of shows.  This is one I can't see ever leaving the fleet.

Two more cars have been technically "bought" before the end of the year, but don't think they count as it will be just into 2022 before they get collected.

This time last year we had a Bini with a broken gearbox. Having successfully persuaded Mrs_WoC into a Honda, the Bini had to go. First time it sold on EBay, the seller made all the right noises about coming to pick it up; He was going to borrow his mate’s recovery truck. But then the truck kept being unavailable so he decided to take the train down and take his chances driving it home. He called me at around 11am on the pre-arranged Saturday morning: “I’ll be catching the train in 20 minutes; I’ll see you around 3.” Then: Nothing. Disappeared from the face of the earth. Second time on EBay, went for a similar amount and the buyers pre-requested a quote for delivery, which they subsequently paid in advance. I trailered it down to them and they handed over cash without hardly glancing at it. Much better. They seemed under no illusions about the car’s faults so I hope they were happy with it. As yet, it has not been un-sorned.

Acquired as part of a merry-go round of shite that I’m not sure I fully understood. Essentially, @Inspector Morose sold @Minimad5 a project Rover, which I trailered up to The Wirral in exchange for this Astra, which had previously been acquired from @83C as part of a deal involving a Mercedes. Or something. Anyway, it needed brakes and an exhaust and a couple of other bits, but it’s a handy thing and I like it.

Looking back at my last post in this thread I commented that Kia Sorentos “just keep on going”. Well, turns out they don’t. My ‘09 was all the way down in Kent, with @Inspector Morose at the wheel, when the dash lit up like the proverbial Christmas tree and progress came to an abrupt halt. M. Morose had a hair raising ride with one of the AA’s cowboy contractors back to our Midland yard and I had to find a replacement tow vehicle. Quick.  With a steady (ish) stream of work coming in I felt more comfortable getting involved in spending ‘proper’ money, and the proliferation of Clean Air Zones meant I’d ideally need something Euro 6. I initially approached a local dealer about a brand new Ssangyong Musso, but they had this four year old D-Max on the forecourt with just 12,000 miles on the clock. I liked the colour. So I bought it. Well, I took delivery, on the promise to pay someone £500 a month for the foreseeable. Trouble is I’m racking up the miles so fast I’ll likely have worn it out before I’ve paid for it. But that’s a problem for future-worldofceri. For now, look how shiny it is:

With the Isuzu acquired, there was no prospect of doing anything with these, sadly. The black one with a busted gearbox and the silver one with a busted engine, both went to the highest online scrap bidder. Over £900 for the pair did not seem bad.

Comfy, quick and not yet attracting the ire of our environmental moral guardians, I like this car. Only irritations are the cruise control does not work and the stereo - which would have been dead fancy in ‘05 - supports neither aux-in nor Bluetooth, so we have to listen to CDs like in the olden days.

STATUS: Working 

Having been laid up in 2020 due to Covid, with a suspected clutch problem, 2021 rolled round and ‘Rosie’ the camper gained tax and mot exemption. So I topped up the clutch fluid and, what do you know? Clutch problem disappeared. Clearly, there’s a leak, but that’s another of future-worldofceri’s problems. In the meantime we managed to get in a few trips this year in sod-mot fashion.

It's incredibly unlikely I'll acquire or sell anything tomorrow so I think I'm safe to report in now.  Astonishingly, all the cars I started the year with I still have.  Equally astonishingly, I didn't acquire anything new for a whole year.

Sold the E39 540i 6-speed for more than I paid for it over 2 years prior, and despite it needing a lot of work by the time I sold it. That was the reason for selling as the money is better invested in an M5 which can hopefully join the fleet next year. It appears to be back on the road now.

59k Mile BMW E38 728i. I've actually bought this for my better half. However with this being way too nice to be driven in winter, and needing a few cosmetic repairs, it will stay with me until Spring next year.

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora. I can't believe it myself but this is now the 3rd Oldsmobile Aurora I own. Dead alternator and suspected head gasket failure. Im hoping to make at least 2 nice ones out of the 3 I own.

The rest is still here. Notable improvements are the Corona EXiV which has had its first MOT in over 10 years (only to overheat and ruin its waterpump). Only need to replace the rear brake hoses and bleed the brakes now before it goes back on the road. Big transformation compared to earlier this year, with more improvements to come.

Plenty of other stuff got fixed (mainly Celsior, E39 528i, black Mark VIII and W140), Im hoping to get the Celsior MOT'd next year and might replace it with a cleaner import from Japan. We shall see...

I guess I wasn't quite done with the year yet and can add the A6 Avant to the In section now:

Not as exciting as the rest of yous, but I bought my first car, a Skoda Fabia - cause it was low mileage and low priced in comparison.

Safe to say it's changed a wee bit. I'm still a little in denial that it's shite, but it is, I think?

Well done. We all need to start somewhere!

I would say it's getting a bit shite but has the potential to be even more shite in the future. I like skodas myself, old and new. Yours looks like good, cheap, simple transport. I looked it up on Total Car Check, a compulsion of mine for any car I see, and it has low miles and a great MOT history with clean passes. As longb as it doesn't rust I should think you'll be OK with that, simple to fix too I would have thought.

Dacia 1310 finally MOTed but currently awaiting a new clutch.

Focus, Daily driver for last 3 years currently on 155k.  Recently gave me an interesting afternoons tinkering with a stuck caliper that came off with the disc still attached but mostly reliable.

Started with 7 and wanted to be down to 4.  Ended up with 7 and a bit FFS.

Bodywork is stellar compared to the Clio I looked at. Rust free, anything that could have caused issues was treated appropriately. It's sitting at nearly 58k miles currently since I do a lot of driving due to where I live.

It's nice and simple to fix, and has luxuries such as heated mirrors and air con, so my mates are jealous. 😆

I finally feel safe to post now after prematurely posting last year.

Although I called this last year it was paid for and collected in the first week of January on the sellers request:

 I needed transport for the dog and a daily driver that was anonymous enough to leave anywhere so bought an E320CDi (Zeus the dog also joined the family this year and seems to like cars)

A far better car than I expected it to be, Mercedes have gone up in my estimation as have diesel engines. This car has really changed my perceptions, I enjoy driving it, it is the closest modern car to a Cortina, it is very good, quick and economical.

Final purchase was for my girlfriend to replace her Z4. Unfortunately I have not yet got around to MOTing the Coupe yet but it seems quite good.

I havent bought or sold any cars this year...must try harder next year! I have progressed the Beetle project though after getting it painted in 2020. It's a running and driving car now but have only driven it in and out of the garage so far. Loads of small fiddly jobs still to do but it will hit the road in 2022

Acquired as part of a merry-go round of shite that I’m not sure I fully understood. Essentially, @Inspector Morose sold @Minimad5 a project Rover, which I trailered up to The Wirral in exchange for this Astra, which had previously been acquired from @83C as part of a deal involving a Mercedes. Glad this is still going, it’s a great little thing to run about in. 

My own tat account for 2021 is a bit bare compared to previous years.

At the start of play the fleet looked like this:

Long term Vehicle Off Road:

1984 Leyland Tiger

1990 Land Rover 90.

Out:

The Astra Van was the first to go, p/x’ed for a Mercedes.

The Suzuki and BMW motorcycles followed soon after, both great bikes but space/time constraints meant they were doing nothing and the money would be put to better use.

The Mercedes then followed suit, being p/x’ed with @HMC for a Fiesta. This soon went, leaving me with one car and one motorbike for the first time in a long time.

This was great, and it’s the one vehicle I regret selling in 2021. Totally changed my opinions on 210s, would have another like it without question. Unfortunately it had to go, a 9 month long training course took its toll on my finances.

I trotted off to Bristol in May where I exchanged it with HMC for this:

Never intended to stay long, it left two days later.

And that was it until October. One bike, one car (plus the two long term VOR). 

Then I took a max strength brave pill and this arrived:

L322 Range Rover Td6. It’s a bit tatty and I know I need to spend on it, but it’s a great car.

So a bit of a slow year in shite terms, but we’ll see what 2022 brings.

The tired old Saab 9-5 of much boost. Really glad to have enjoyed this for a while, it was a fun old bus to pilot. Equally glad to not be throwing money and time at it trying to be getting it through another MOT. Moved on to @davehedgehog31of this parish and since then it's been passed around like a scud book in a boarding school.

Sold my bike trailer, seen here moving my mates old Tenere with my old Astra. Not a vehicle I know but a significant departure. Another mate needed a trailer so I pounced on the opportunity to move this on having realised that it was just a f**king enabler! Almost everything I'd dragged home with it was an impulse purchase I would later go on to regret. Having to organise a courier/van hire/trailer borrowing will hopefully be the equivalent of a cooling off period to save me from myself in future!

Non Movers

The derv Accord estate has now clocked up 11k miles in my year of ownership even though I was on furlough for over 3 months at the start of the year! Very good at being AN car even though it now has a weak clutch (common issue on these). Clutch issue has successfully been driven around for the last 1500-2000 miles so it's likely to stay on the fleet for a good long time yet. Took me a long time to realise that when you're doing 10k miles a year of gridlocked, pot holed commuting you'll never love the car you do it in. If you don't hate the car after all those mundane commuting miles then it's a great car! Working aircon, heated leather, cruise control, DAB and acceptable MPG's all make this a great daily.

Sonic the Toledo continues to be the perfect second car. No tax/MOT and only £100 a year to insure. After last winters carb rebuild and radiator re-core it's now 100% reliable and dependable. Can leave it sitting for 4-6 weeks and still stroll down to the lockup confident that it'll start first turn of the key. Plan for 2022 is just to chip away at some of the small cosmetic jobs and try to use it a little more frequently.

Motorbikes (All non movers)

No photo's sorry! 

1967 BSA A50 - Sat unused this last year. This was an impulse buy 4 years ago and I've hardly used it since I got it for a whole variety of reasons. I will have reason to use it in 2022 though so it'll be dragged out from storage fairly soon. In 2022 I'll either bond with it or decide to sell it.

1976 Suzuki TS250 - Got it registered and on the road during various stages of lockdown during 20/21 and used it for a few classic/vintage runs during summer of 2021. I absolutely love this bike and it's a 100% keeper.

1983 GPz1100 - Started the rebuild on this in November 2020 and it's still ongoing! Intend to finish this up over the next couple of months after not touching it for 6-9 months because of other work/life priorities. Was going to sell but have decided to put this in the "hibernation shed" when I drag the BSA out. It may well still be a long term fleet member but I don't really have a use for it in 2022. 2-3 years to go until it's tax/MOT exempt so in no hurry to get rid.

1998 ZZR1100 - MOT'd in March and it's not moved since! I use this primarily for continental touring but work/Covid/Brexit stopped all that so had no need to use it in 2021. Carbs could do with going through an ultrasonic cleaner now but other than that it's good to go. Will ultimately get replaced by something fuel injected and more comfortable like a Triumph Tiger but no plans to change it in 2022.

2014 CRF250L - Bought in Feb 2020 to go trail riding in Spain that summer but Covid messed all those plans up. It was MOT'd and used a bit in 2021 though. Having a bike with modern fuel injection that'll just start first press of the button after sitting untouched for 4 months is a novelty that'll never wear off I think. It's a great wee thing that's always ready and never needy unlike every other bike I own! Not sure about this ones future though. If it's not going abroad in 2022 then I might just sell it on to get most of my money back out of it now and then buy a new CRF300L if/when another Spain trip is on the cards. It would certainly free up some very useful storage space in the short term so I'll see how I feel in the summer.

F**k all! New years resolution 2021 of buying nothing for a full year has been achieved. I peaked at 3 cars and 9 bikes in recent years and to be honest, being surrounded by broken stuff all the time just made me stressed and unhappy, getting little enjoyment from all things motoring.  I resolved to try and stop ploughing time and money into vehicles I don't have a real use for or that realistically don't have a long time left on the fleet. Thus far it's working and my tinkering mojo is coming back.

Still like them though, you can take the racing line without straying over the white lines and drive them full bore without breaking the speed limit (by much).

someone hit mine 3 times in my ownership so far - had  rear bumper offside  resprayed- my fault

pdr on  driver  door (neighbour paid as responsible!)

scuff on front from a twit at b&m - sprayed it.

16k miles mine has done 1 previous owner she is AS spec- bASe model white - she scrubs up well  A friend bought herself an alto and her friend who is My boss (he is SENCO) calls them lawnmowers - when I see him I say his diesel Skoda Superb estate is a lawnmower compared to 3 cyl suzuki

All the cars I’ve bought this year

the cooper s, proton and last model 70 have stayed, the rest have now been sold

To sum up

the first model 70 was great “only sold to fund a house purchase”

 

Audi was possibly one of my favourite cars I’ve owned only cost £500 “only sold because I fancied the rover”

Rover was awful, literally lasted 2 days before it blew up

 

Lada was fantastic got 8 months daily use before it was discovered to be too rotten

405 was slow and unreliable “only bought because I was putting too many miles on the Lada, the Lada ended up out living it”

 

Bini Cooper S  current daily absolutely loving it

Proton currently in the garage getting the front suspension replaced not yet driven 

new Model 70 bought because I missed my old one.
