DavidB
Only bought two cars this year, first was a Peugeot 106 XN off here. It had no water in it, overheated in roadworks, two days later heater matrix exploded. Then this Nissan Micra 1.0 which is nice and everything: June - December, still trying to get my Smart Roadster running - nobody wants a broken Smart car. I've replaced everything, and now I have to replace the wiring loom which is hidden deep inside and needs -everything- removed. That's every single thing (body panel, interior), and engine taking out. Zero motivation to do this but I can't just stick this outside and it's taking up space. Fuck me. The only good motoring news of this year is my SJ is finished and getting MOT'd next week (update! It conveniently caught fire and has been put back months while I obtain unobtainium parts) Still have this fine beast, have spent quite a bit on it, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, i also forgot I bought this ‘barn find’ which hadn’t been lost for £1400. Spent loads on it, needed loads doing to it, sold for £1950. Quite cute but slowest thing I’ve ever driven! also this which I have done anything with GMcD, Coprolalia, Rab and 15 others

Best motor I have ever owned. 1988 Volvo 240 GLT. Bought this to learn how to weld. I wasn't disappointed. It was ROTTEN. Now just tidying up snagging and hoping to have an MOT maybe next week. Windscreen went in yesterday. 1998 Volvo C70 ex @volvoman and @SRi05 Absolutely love this car. It almost went out with a bang as the engine blew up in the summer. bangernomics
An odd one this year. None out and 4 in I think. Two hymers of varying vintages in.A small chap finally collected.A French fancy purchased I know great photo.Still have the master van above. This lad passed his test with virtually zero costA fifth one I forgot I bought as it’s still in the body shop wanting paint. Bini skip remains no pic it’s beige. Simson schwalbe still not registered! And now carb is dribbling fuel.VFR sat poorly waiting on fork seals after its jaunt to France for its import inspection.Still need to buy myself a birthday vehicle for next years milestone. ?Too soon. This has joined the fold too. chodweaver
No change here, though the Focus of the family_Chod has been pushed back into daily duties while the pink Corsa has been granted a sabbatical, during which it needs lower arms, drop links, an ATF flush, possibly fettling of the steering rack, and if I'm really diligent, rot repairs around the fuel filler neck. Other factions at Chez Chod however hover over the WBAC web site, fantasising that i will slip into a coma, even if only temporarily, so that they can turn this driveway ornament into a small pile of cash. Poor little Vauxhall.Meanwhile the Voyager is exercising its ABS light, after encountering big puddles in the autumn floods, and as its MOT is due in January, it's booked in for both at a local garage, esp as I've just had hernia surgery so wielding a trolley jack or ramps will incur extreme censure from Mrs CW, if not some mild* discomfort.XM, MR2 and camper: still immobile and forlorn. Datsuncog
Not quite up there in the excitement stakes, but there's been some movement this year (after a period of relative stability since 2018): Very much OUT: Forester Turbo went from fine to dead in rather less time than hoped. Rampant rot took out the front control arm, which CALAPSED while being manoeuvred down at the mechanic's. Further investigation revealed the underside to have spontaneously taken Colin Chapman's 'add lightness' dictum to unsustainable levels. Never even had an MOT advisory for body corrosion before. Couldn't be safely moved, and couldn't be sold privately from the garage premises due to 'unroadworthy vehicle' liability concerns, so ended up on the scrap wagon. Probably arriving in China about now. Also OUT: Little 49cc Honda Vision - acquired gratis as a project from @They_all_do_that_sirin the summer of 2019, and to which I did very little beyond shoving it in the shed and very gently poking at it every few months. Now returned to its previous owner, who has much more of a clue what to do with it! I'm sure it enjoyed its extended holiday a mile down the road, nonetheless. IN: What's increasingly becoming the Subaru of Many Shiters, featuring on this very thread for the fourth time in 2021 - yes, it's the ex- @TrabbieRonnie, ex- @Minimad5, ex- @SRi05, ex- @JimH Outback 2.5 SE. Proving itself to be a comfortable and dependable steer, though sadly swapping the droplinks hasn't stopped the odd clonking from the front, so further investigation of the top struts may be needed before MOT time in February... NO CHANGE: A non-mover for sixteen years now; yes, it's MrsDC's scratty yet apparently unkillable Mk1 Yaris. Other than a frequently-running fan fault, similar to that being suffered by other shiters on their noble steeds, it just keeps on keepin' on. I put a new battery on it last year after its last one perished from lack of use during Lockdown 1, but other than that has received very little in the way of TLC. I think I might have washed it before the MOT in August. I'm hoping that I'm not jumping the gun here, as I'm really not anticipating any other ins or outs in the next fortnight... wesacosa
I was holding off doing this as I was getting serious desire for an Octavia VRS Mk1 but that unlikely to happen any time soon, so time to call it. Sorry for the looooong update but I am self isolating and bored !! Quite a bit of churn at Chez Wesacosa this year, including Mrs W getting fed up of relying on my fleet of questionable vehicles for family duties, culminating in the Favorit getting towed home at FoTU weekend, and sold her Boxster and bought an A class As for me... Out Volvo V40 bought as a WBoD/commuter wagon a few years ago from an old lady (friend of a friend's mum) who was told to give up driving, with no MOT and long overdue a cambelt but one family owned and amazing amount of history. Bought for a song. But work from home and the ULEZ extension looming meant I wanted something a bit less dull. Sold easily for quite a decent profit , which I felt so guilty about I sent a cheque for the profit to the old lady I bought it off Bini R56 Cooper S Jointly owned with Mrs W for last 6 years. Always seemed to be on the verge of a huge bill but thankfully it never came. Arrival of the A class meant we didn't need it for family duties or ferrying the mutt around. Painless sale for more than I was expecting via Cazoo. In Citroen XM 2.1TD Bought to scratch a long standing itch and replace the V40 as a last hurrah before the ULEZ extension. missed out on it at a classic auction in December 2020 as I forgot to register to bit, but was the only bidder when it appeared in the April 2021 auction. unused since 2014 and sat in a pool of LHM and with a dash lit up like a Christmas tree. @worldofceri delivered it to my drive in April and there it has stayed! Read all about my struggles here 🤣 Fiat Panda As a lot of you will know, we lost a popular and long standing member of the AS community earlier this year when @spartacus (Giles) sadly passed away at an appallingly young age in May. He generously wanted his Fiat Panda to be roffled with the proceeds going to charity. Four hours after my V40 was driven away bonus ball #44 dropped out of the machine and I became the lucky custodian of the car. This led to a collection caper that I hope Giles would have enjoyed, where I was also honoured to be able to help @Mrs Spart hand over the gifts bought with the proceeds of the roffle to the hospital. I also got to meet @Grumblespeed who went above and beyond in terms of helping prep the car for roffle, get the MOT and answered many Panda related questions I have bombarded him with since. Since then I have continued where Spartacus left off in gradually improving a car which had been off the road 20 years when he purchased it. I hope Giles would approve. RIP, mate None Movers Skoda Favorit Quiet year for the Favorit as it dropped behind the Panda and XM in the list. Did a bit of commuting duties once the V40 went and was going to be my FoTU steed , but without any time to prep for the long journey it didn't make it past Hull and came home on a tow truck. Needs new rear dampers and front strut top mounts and an MOT. in the queue but not sure where it fits in long term. Its very rough and ready around the edges but I have a very strong emotional attachment to it after its 2000mile adventure to Monaco and back in 2019 E46 M3 Embarrassed after doing 30 miles in 2 years I have started using it a bit now. I think it will probably have to go soon though as its getting to the age where it really needs to live in a garage, some rust setting in needs more care than I can give it Westfield and C5 currently garage mates. The Westfield hasn't been on the road for a few years now. I spent lockdown #1 doing a whole load of work on it (cooling system rebuild, wiring, interior trim, cambelt) but still needs finishing. Another one I need to sell or finish. I also did a full strip down and rebuild of my scrap yard find C5 in lockdown #1 to the point I got it running but I have done nothing this year. Needs decals, some small bit of electrical work and a boot lock to finish If you are still reading, thanks! Not least the amount of work they all need doing on a constant basis. Definitely 6 cars is my upper limit and the 7 I'm at becomes a strain. Not least one is a full resto job. Big difference from last year is that I (FINALLY) moved house and gained a proper place to work on cars in the garage. Shame my Mojo has significantly diminished since then 😕 I suspect in a years time I'll be cutting the fleet down. Not least to save costs. Question is what goes though... 😬 I think I'm ready to submit my annual return now. Mojo came back early this year and disappeared later on. Maybe the same will happen again? As per last year, I need to cut back on the number of cars. Like last year, I've currently had a net increase given I hadn't received the BMW E28 as of the post last year. Start of Year: Austin 1100, MGB GT, Dolomite Sprint, BMW E28 520i, Porsche Boxster, Renault Clio 172, Audi A4 B8 - Austin 1100 Sold as I agreed to Mrs SiC that I would if I got the BMW E28. Bloody good fun little car that is. With lockdown and everything that went on, I didn't use it anywhere near as much as I should have. In fact I barely did tens of miles. Currently in Gerrymcd hands and he's used it properly like I should have done. - BMW E28 520i I was super excited about this but found it not to my tastes. Disappointing as they look super cool, even now the photo below makes me wonder why I sold but I know it just didn't float my boat. Maybe I needed one with more engine. Should have kept the 1100. - Renault Clio 172 Sold for a small profit. Enjoyed it but not as much as I expected. May get a 182 if one for the right price ever comes up. +/- Mini Cooper S Bought to replace the Clio as a runaround. Good little car that was blighted by a few issues. Clutch slipping ended up being the final straw. + Skoda Fabia MK1 1.4 16v Piece of shit cost me £400. Got it as a temporary stop gap when the Bini shat its clutch and the Boxster roof window split at the same time. I hate it so much that I actually like it. It does everything I need for a car that I makes it hard to justify getting rid. This is the only daylight picture I can find with the front of it. + Morris Minor 1275 Came up during one of those times I had a trigger finger active. Sat since 1989 with a 1275 MG Midget engine and uprated Marina disc brakes with a few other tuning goodies on. Slowly getting there and nearly back on the road. Bit more (body)work than envisioned but it's completely solid now. Paint is shocking though. + MG Midget Been after one for ages. Finally found one. Wasn't supposed to be a project but I think it may be bit of one. Keeping fingers crossed it isn't another rotten SiC disasterous purchase. End of Year: Morris Minor, MG Midget, Triumph Dolomite Sprint, MGB GT, Porsche Boxster, Skoda Fabia, Audi A4 B8 Not sure what's for next year. Spitfire is on the cards as I really want to own the trio of Midget, BGT and Spitfire. Dolomite I need to get my arse moving and get it back on the road. Moggie might be for the chop given I have the Midget and too many cars. Fabia is a wild card. Tempting to get rid and use the Boxster all year round. Just it'll deteriorate it's shiny and niceness. But doesn't make economic sense having so many cars especially as I've had a big hike in storage costs recently. At some point I can see myself selling everything classic and getting just one super nice/fancy car (in comparison) that I put all my energy into. wesacosa, Lewis CrapAudi, Datsuncog and 3 others

davehedgehog31
Another busy year this year - quite unexpectedly. Opening balance on 01/01/2021; Lexus RX300 SE-L - Still on Fleet This has been a good car. Pretty sore on fuel, but very comfy and absolutely effortless to drive. Has a bit of an identity crisis, not sure if I should be punting eccies or Werthers Originals from it Peugeot 107 - Left Fleet This was the first of three cars sold to @Tickman this year. Another good car, only ousted by the arrival of a diesel equivalent. Peugeot 405 GTX TD - Left Fleet A car I never thought I'd sell, but I'd lost enthusiasm and not really missed it. I'd had my fun and enjoying it's replacement. A useful lesson in biting the bullet. There are plenty cars to be experienced so I best get on with it. And now onto the incomers.... Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI - Left Fleet I bought this in January as I was bored with not a lot to do. An eBay purchase with no test. Got it through MOT and into service. Sold to Joe Public. Would definitely have another, think they're great AN CARS. Citroen C1 1.4 HDi - Left Fleet This arrived in April and covered a fair few miles during it's stint on fleet. I really liked it. I can't help feeling the petrols are a more enjoyable drive, but it done great real world MPG and was still fun. Second fleet sale to @Tickman. Saab 9-5 2.3 Aero HOT - Left Fleet Bought from @blackboilersuit and sold to @Tickman. Now with @Flat4 I believe. A bit of a tired car, but goes very well. Very usefully shaped. My third 9-5, I'd have another... Lexus LS400 DHP - Still on Fleet This was the 405s replacement. It's a tremendous car. Have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. Mazda MX-5 - Still on Fleet (Sort of) Bought this for just under scrap money and it will be going to the scrappies for scrap money just imminently. It got myself and @davidfowler2000 a day out. Citroen Synergie TD - Left Fleet This one left a really sour taste. Travelled down to Surrey to get it and loved the drive home. Class thing to drive and interior was spotless. However, the OS strut tower was ripe. Feel daft for missing it and not suggesting the seller would have known. I was initially keen to have it repaired but put on my big boy shoes and poked it, it was fucked. Had to accept I probably wasn't going to fix it and it was just a weight on my mind. Left on the back of a wagon. RIP. Renault Scenic 1.5 dci - Still on fleet This only arrived less than two weeks ago. Another impulsive eBay purchase.... A hastily planned collection with @davidfowler2000saw us travel to the West Midlands and back in the space of one evening. An inauspicious start with haywire front wipers that I hope to fix on the cheap.... Time will tell with this one. It's only done 78k, has 11 months test and drives fine. \ So end of year sees the Lexus RX, Lexus LS and Renault Scenic on fleet. First time I've not owned a PSA product in quite some years. wesacosa, Liggle, Datsuncog and 12 others
JuridicalGrunt
In 1994 Rover 216 tomcat I bought this to be my daily driver after my mileage doubled and has been fantastic bought off eBay unseen and with the mot expiring the day the auction ended I stuck it in for an mot a few days after I got it and it passed, 8500 miles later all its needed was a starter and two track rod ends. 1989 Renault 21 GTS An impulse purchase its need a fair bit more work to get it useable but ive just started putting some miles on it and I love it. it has a strange charm to it, its still in need of some more work it needs some welding next summer and some other little bits on the interior sorting and a carb rebuild. Out 2008 Jaguar Xf 3.0 petrol I bought this at the end of 2019 to be my daily after my Astra gtc went back to Vauxhall, I payed 4 grand for it, 2 owners and full jaguar history absolutely brilliant car did loads of miles in it and the only thing that went wrong was the level sensor in the coolant bottle failed. it wasn’t very good on fuel and the road tax was 560 quid a year but I would defiantly have another only sold it as my mileage doubled and need something that did better on fuel. it hasn’t gone far as my brother now owns it as he dose a lot less miles. Non Movers 1982 Rover Sd1 3500 The resto is pretty much finished its been fighting me but now just needs to go for and mot its only been ready for over a month now just not had a lot of motivation to do it, I still need to get the steel wheels refurbished and put them on after its mot then it will be the little issues the first proper drives will throw up. not sure what the long term holds would like to do some travelling in it but not sure. 1964 Hillman super minx Ive had this a lot longer than I remember I got this in 2020 I did a fair amount to it I put new sills on it I changed the clutch did some wiring and a bunch of other things was hoping to get to use it this summer but getting it registered took nearly 3 months but finally got it registered so hopefully next summer it should be out and about sill got a few small jobs to do but not much. As for next year plan its to concentrate on what i have and have them all on the road and keep up with the maintenance and get some use out of the Hillman and the rover. Split_Pin
I suppose I should do a last minute update as there has been one in/out since I posted my original update at the start of December. In: Bargainous Saab from @SRi05. I've used this every other day for my usual duties and it drives great. Out: Cavalier TD. This is another in/out of 2021. I'll really miss this one but I've had 2 this year so time to move on. I would say that the novelty of every other person coming up to you in car parks or pointing at you on the road never wore off. I will also sorely miss not having a retro 90s car on fleet so and I really hope to add another to the fleet in 2022. Split_Pin
It's Frost Blue, very eye catching. He's not on here much now so for those that don't know this has gone to @cms206 He appreciates Cavaliers even more than I do and he's going to use it, something I didn't do much of latterly. anonymous user
My life is boring I still have this. Now on it's way to 20000 miles Sold this Despite it being a Mk1 mx5 and putting a new MOT on it nobody really wanted it. Didn't need another car, but bought this currently in storage until the weather gets a bit better. Jazoli
Started the year with this Sold it to a nice couple from Carlisle, saw it being sold for scrap 3 months later, shame, was a nice car. Bought this in Feb which I still have, boosty floppytop fun Still have this too which my daughter is failing to learn to drive in and still have this which is ok but its not been without its faults this year. Also still have this and have done hardly any miles on it in 16 months, It'll be getting px'd for an adventure bike or tourer next year. A very quiet year for me, I reckon the Saab will be up for sale/swap soon if anyone fancies it. Six-cylinder, worldofceri and Split_Pin
