OOT - Nowt.

So that leaves me with the same two Volvos I had last year. And the year before that in fact.

The grey 740 has had a fair bit of fettling this last year, including the headgasket a month or so ago. Continues to perform daily duties on an arduous 3 mile a day commute.

850 has also had a bit of work this year. Currently V0R due to being an ungrateful bastard and me not having time to attend to it's strop.

I may have declared four in a bit early, big thanks to Cavcraft for posting in the ebay thread a badly listed SD1, I had the winning bid. Will go in shares with a good friend. I am waiting for the seller to let me know when it can be collected so it may go into next year. I am not sure what the rules are? Next year there will be some moderns in the out.

Excellent move sir. That looks pretty solid actually. Very much looking forward to more info and updates. I need to give mine a service and a run.

I believe the rules are that professional delivery services (like our own Wingz and Worldofceri) can collect it for you as they are allowed to work. Going to get it yourself, not so much (assuming you’re in Tier Staythefuckathome like most of us).

Thank you, I really like early SD1’s, I have someone lined up to collect it, I am just waiting for the seller to let me know when it can be picked up as it is at his unit and he wants to wait until after the Christmas break.

2020 - A quiet* year!

I am going to tempt fate and put my totals up for the year, despite there being 3-1/2 days to go, and I have not visited either of my chod suppliers* since Christmas. I thought that 2020 had been a quiet year due to both travel restrictions and my being away for work for 3 months, coupled with my determination to stop buying shite and actually reduce the collection. Lets see how we did:

OUT:

First out was the Saab 9-5 shell to the bridge:

9-5.thumb.jpg.9424c8d93e182be7b75daaac2ed668eb.jpg

Also out early in the year was this little beauty*, collected by @Kiltox of this parish and providing hours of fun* for him

fox.thumb.jpg.7f8536bddb904d1532c3a184556870fe.jpg

Next out was this after many years ownership to @Cavcraft

dmw.thumb.jpg.e4ce5294b54d259c01c5c117abcc854c.jpg

Next out to the bridge was this

yaris.thumb.jpg.b37c19d537f739ad84e724428209932c.jpg

Next the Modus left to a new home

modus.thumb.jpg.85526c58292663df7af5482071f9935e.jpg

and most recently this also left for a new home

ax.thumb.jpg.ac3b8f6c359f3c0d0dece6ac4fd39698.jpg

So, that is 6 that have left this year. Not bad (for me).

IN and OUT

A couple arrived and departed this year

almera.jpg.66df7f3b48b5d7c7d0192a92e714b865.jpg

smart.thumb.jpg.d9370fe8ceea0c95d5243c3b80ab82be.jpg

And now to the shortest section, those that came

IN

First, from Billy in exchange

bmw.jpg.746dad8eaaaeab9e55ecaa2793099b27.jpg

Then a new tow car was required

disco.thumb.jpg.b94fba33805475860c67c6d1ddd0d540.jpg

Then these arrived, one for spares

ruby.thumb.jpg.4ce59cb65609268fff8877af809f6a77.jpg

and one to sell on for the owner. The pandemic put paid to that so it is still here

t2.thumb.jpg.154aa0074e03ccd2f6e5c3d16903906f.jpg

Whilst offshore I agreed to buy this which has turned out to be brilliant

enema.jpeg.1f363e9318e33f4357c9bf9f884b8d7c.jpeg

This seemed a good idea at the time, but now I am not sure what I am going to do with it. Not much I think

subaru.thumb.jpg.eedddc56010525c65bd310522d5fc30e.jpg

I was then offered this to save it from the bridge. Might have a good look over it in the next few days

900vert.jpg.d540f32484ea45936a6a996d426fa772.jpg

I then made an investment to save me effort

komatsu.jpg.40ffd9cedf23ba7a7ae1728afa295edc.jpg

So of course I had to buy this to move it

trailer.thumb.jpg.995b922c023ee7c527adc04dc55158b9.jpg

I will not include the digger and trailer as they are not really chod based

Finally, as the Smart, AX and Modus had gone, I needed* a shopping trolley so this arrived

307.thumb.jpg.e78bff5e7240425db92ef8778a69ac81.jpg

So excluding the digger and trailer, that makes 8 in.

So, in total 8 out and 10 in. Yep, the fleet reduction is going well. Must try harder.

December 2019 - Working: 2; Broken: 1
December 2020 - Working: 2; Broken: 4

IN: 2004 Bini Cooper
STATUS: Broken
Bought early in the year as Mrs WoC was getting fed up of dailying her VW camper through winter.  Then, like so many others, she switched to working from home and consequently the Mini has not done much mileage.  It still managed to break it's clutch fork though, which necessitated much expense and messing around trying to find someone who would change the clutch.  I then treated it to two (expensive, branded) new tyres and it rewarded me a week later by lunching the gearbox.  At that point I fell out with it and it is nominally for sale, although, now out of mot, I have no chance of finding anyone who will give me anywhere near what it owes us, and I am not yet quite ready to stomach a massive loss.

IN: 2009 Kia Sorento
STATUS: Working
New Sorento acquired to replace the older one (see below) for work.  Bought on about 75,000 miles, I have done over 48,000 more already.  It still has on two of the tyres that it came with and I haven't had to change the brake pads yet either.  Only thing that has broken so far is the electric mirrors which have stopped working for some reason.  These things are great.  They just suck it up and keep going (touch wood - but, see below)!

IN:  2005 Honda Accord (2.4 pez)
STATUS: Working
The b0rking of Mrs WoC's Bini coincided with some friends of ours mentioning they were selling their Accord.  They'd owned it for eight years and looked after it scrupulously.  They were only selling since the Accord's usual duties were only local and they'd decided to replace it with a Leaf.  When they offered to cut me an attractive deal I jumped at the chance.  It needed a clutch master cylinder within a couple of weeks of having it, but other than that it runs brilliantly, looks great and everything works.  I'm itching to take it on a proper blezz but, due to lockdown etc, I've barely had it over 40mph...

NON MOVER: 1972 VW 1200
STATUS: Broken
Last on the road in 2014, the only thing I've done this year is to raise it onto a quartet of tree stumps in the hopes of maintaining the circularness of the tyres.  Beginning to think I need to just take it to my VW-restoring acquaintance with my credit card taped to the dash, and tell him to call me when it's either finished or my credit limit is reached.  At this rate I will never get around to doing anything constructive with it myself.

NON MOVER: 1980 VW Transporter Devon camper
STATUS: Broken
Relieved of daily duties in February and sorned at the start of lockdown, 'Rosie' nevertheless managed to take us on a camping trip to Somerset back in August.  This required a certain amount of swearing under the breath and attempted rev-matching on my part as, it seems, she needs some clutch fettling.  Now sorned again, partly due to the transmission issue and partly as there's no opportunity to use her at present.

NON MOVER: 2006 Kia Sorento
STATUS: Broken
The original Walsgrave Transport tow vehicle, with over 130,000 miles covered since purchase in 2018, and few problems apart from a recurring wheel bearing issue.  By the start of 2020 however, I was having trouble with the 4wd transfer box, some disconcerting shimmying at speed, and a whine that I thought was coming from the diff.  One evening on the way up the M1, luckily with an empty trailer, the whine suddenly got a lot worse, accompanied by intermittent clunking from the auto box.  I peeled off the motorway on to the A421 where I managed to coast into the first layby having lost all drive.  The silver Kia was acquired a week or two later as it got me back on the road and working in the shortest time.  This one is still parked up. I have ambitions of having the gearbox overhauled and keeping it as a back-up vehicle for when the silver one inevitably requires attention, or even as a second regular tow car if workload gets high enough to warrant it.

Well, I think I can finally call it.

I started the year with the Palladium, Riley, Heron, Panhard, Peugeot 404, Humber Sceptre, Renault 16, Mk1 BX and a Xantia estate.

The Xantia was the first to go (right), replaced by another Xantia (left). Somehow I managed to get all the way to July before any fleet movements, which must be a record.

20200710_183608.thumb.jpg.974c68734f638409207615134236bee9.jpg

Then unexpectedly OUT was the Sceptre

20200914_095148.thumb.jpg.313a0d2982aff55c0eacab8b981e31e1.jpg

And, as of today... OUT! After a year of trying. Sold to a French buyer. En route as I type, delivered tomorrow.

20201228_155954.thumb.jpg.4ab21f1a55afc29366c6bb60e15fc895.jpg

That was it for leavers. Other incomers were this, for no discernible reason. It probably won't stay long

20201028_163719.thumb.jpg.8b7a8b951eb9faa2c3a9d89361834b4e.jpg

and this thing, which shamefully I haven't done anything with since I got it. Will get it MoT'd and in use asap

20201015_180455.thumb.jpg.d86c05d041dc2052b2ae2062f605c541.jpg

due to the Tier system, that's me done for the year, although I have something waiting to be collected as soon as the vendor will allow visitors.

OUT: 3

NON-MOVERS: 6

A lie on both counts. Didn't Volvo but my fleet also underwent many changes in 2021!

So it's that time again 😀

Out:

Finally said goodbye to this after 11 years. I got more for the wheels than the car (I put steels on for the sale).

IMG_20210919_125350_417.thumb.jpg.85f20639d0ac41955a1c9c939341af70.jpg

Finally got rid of this after 2 unreliable years. Finally had enough when it shat its coolant in Mcdonalds car park the day of its MOT. Sold to @Gerrymcd with suspected HGF, new thermostat fixed it, now in service, albeit still with issues! I'd never touch another post 2000 BMW again, dog shit.

FB_IMG_1638516816502.jpg.2c758786c9db1a4e1037b9d1299e10dc.jpg

In and out. I bought this from @Lacquer Peel in February and carried out a ton of work to get it back on the road and running well.

IMG_20210919_132209_132.thumb.jpg.6b1522c10b8d90e85aab3541fe673cee.jpg

Sold when @Jim Bell put his much more solid TD up for sale in June.

In

Cav TD. I still prefer the petrol engine but this one is incredibly solid and low miles. It's the most honest car I have owned. I have carried out a lot of work to this one too, now on Sorn for the winter.

20211001_120745.thumb.jpg.db1fa25a6b67f5fb9f2ad2c64d628032.jpg

In

Replaced the Mini, 2.2 Diesel. Duped by the seller around a non opening boot, still won't open except from the inside despite replacing almost everything. Otherwise a stonking drive, nice to have a 'disposable' car on fleet.

FB_IMG_1638517243597.jpg.4a1098ab80ca164eef6f8ce307f13228.jpg

Non mover. Had a war with the exhaust, mainly thanks to an arsehole garage leaving the car neglected and untouched in their yard for a month. Now running well, MOT booked for January, can't see it being too far away frkm a pass (he said!)

IMG_20211119_124231_013.thumb.jpg.e80659a606717623cbf24d1122da7324.jpg

Non mover. My go to car, still running like a Swiss watch. Needs repairs to the sills for the MOT in February .

Not a terrible starting point for a year, but we started the year by looking to move house and to visit @TontonTdB in Toulon again, so we needed a cruiser.

First of all the LEAF went.

IMG_20190718_190220.thumb.jpg.ec9a8ccfb238e2913c45660e605043cf.jpg

Off to Scotland where it's being enjoyed with public only charging.

Then the 305 went

IMG_20200215_130825.thumb.jpg.49096895421e8e1f34564c8cc80dc397.jpg

405 still kicking about though.

In came half of this

IMG_20200516_143850.thumb.jpg.d4b4c8b826e18e21079b27cb4b79c91a.jpg

A frigging great car, now swapped for a pink childs bike.

Then this

IMG_20200605_211633.thumb.jpg.c30e3000074436b7ec57c70e00ebd4a3.jpg

Another brilliant car, in great nick.  Rapid and economical, and so low it was unusable on the roads around here.  Mega shame, probably should have just lifted it back up again.

Instead I bought this

IMG_20201020_142433.thumb.jpg.efc9f508d660d84f2f9a78d0f41171e8.jpg

which to be fair has been brilliant so far, and is about to be SORNed for the winter to save a bit of tax / insurance money.

I also ended up getting this

IMG_20200822_185535.thumb.jpg.ec29148123bd5f11b2bc0ae1f741391e.jpg

Which has needed a bit of fettling but is turning out to be an excellent car.

So:

IN: Half a 205; A whole 205; a 306 estate; a 406 estate

OUT: LEAF; Half a 205; 305; 306 estate

Still here: 405 estate; 406 estate; 205GR; 206GTI.

206 has been treated to a cambelt and a proper fettling courtesy of Mr Jimbob McGregor and is very much a favourite.

IMG_20201025_163446.thumb.jpg.509022597ef79113beea8a5c92069d22.jpg

And we also managed to move house, so now I don't have a garage.  (yet)

Predictions? We're due another sproglet hopefully in March, so; mk1 Multipla, Eurovan1, Expert teepee, Renault Trafic.

Aspirations: 505 break de Dangel.

Where were we? Oh, that's right.

Still here: 405 estate; 406 estate; 205GR; 206GTI.

Except, that wasn't it.  The 406 estate went to a shitist, and was replaced by this SAAB

IMG-20201205-WA0044.thumb.jpg.5fca0c883f9329d8684d3342a9b853c0.jpg

Which was pretty nice but I made a "I might be selling this" noise on facebook and it was snapped up by the owner of a chain of vape shops.  It's now dead, Jim.

I tried to replace it with this partner, but it was totally dead

IMG_20210403_110042.thumb.jpg.f734af6e76054b26b37be8156590c042.jpg

The engine was FUBAR.

I also bought this:

IMG_20210405_170046.thumb.jpg.4af2681b5031dd21025069b63d28982f.jpg

I then bought this back

IMG_20210501_112206.thumb.jpg.2c9d486503d79f6f506b9553a948fbd9.jpg

Which was amazing, but just too far gone for me to fix so it went back up to @DodgyBastard again.  I'd love it back for another go at getting it roadworthy now he's welded it up, but I've spent all my spending money on other bits for the last few months so couldn't get it here.

IMG_20210627_210640.thumb.jpg.3a4ce8f94c30e3c3af5d4fe05e1306c3.jpg

I then bought this

 IMG_20210520_123416.thumb.jpg.5b85cf046db42f07069f9dbd433d75b9.jpg

Which was useful

IMG_20210518_184238.thumb.jpg.b8d986e2d864fcd9d920020a76d86d8f.jpg

So useful in fact that I only had it three days as it was needed by someone with a dead focus.

Then I bought this

IMG_20210529_222012.thumb.jpg.0727c88d6b0b636f70b18ecaced0bc99.jpg

Which is more useful, but only when the electronics are not shitting themselves.  After a full 6 months off the road, it's back on the fleet but still a bit broken.  If I can get it sorted it'll be amazing.

I then had an excellent fleet

IMG_20210506_074011.thumb.jpg.18cf9eecb85d8a4b469a599eef7130b5.jpg

I was told I had to sell cars, so I sold the 206 GTI

IMG-20201130-WA0020.thumb.jpg.462d27a12d48a7ae6a80f4abaf03c10a.jpg

which was probably my favourite car ever, but not as practical as we really need at the moment.

With the partner dead and 206 sold, we mostly relied on my 205

IMG_20210702_152145.thumb.jpg.ae7ae6fdf9e45db0237bfbfc9e1e4537.jpg

Which was unfair and has been pretty hard on it.  It's currently off the road, needs a starter and probably a few other bits.

To help take the strain, I bought this

1692928724_PXL_20210908_172923244(1).thumb.jpg.06406e0488e313a1ae569b7d6e688a31.jpg

which was great once I put very grippy tyres on it, but I was getting 24MPG from it.

We then tried to improve this with a six seater

PXL_20211003_094229913.thumb.jpg.36e7fa194373d1b3966ddb1656bcf51d.jpg

But the driving position was hopelessly uncomfortable and I couldn't put any kids in the front.  WHAT IS POINT?

After a bit of A framing,

PXL_20211031_105858734.thumb.jpg.afde92787c28f1077699abb99b3d962f.jpg

I finally got the tractor home

PXL_20211031_143125961.thumb.jpg.0d7d11769bcdc923c3f166bfb05db062.jpg

and then moved the two hondas on.

The whole time, my 405 has been sitting in Scary's yard.

The wife finally got her own frigging car.

STILL HERE:

Frigging everything. The Peugeot 107 clocked up 90,000 miles this year. All 90,000+ miles I've done on it since I bought it with only 15 on the clock.

Corolla did a turn for a friend for a few months. Now highly unlikely to leave the fold, unless it's a swap for something. Which is even more unlikely, but it will be taking part in the Toyota Parallel Pomeroy in February.

The Lada has just sat there waiting to be looked at. That might happen before the end of the year, probably won't.

The MG ZR is finally being stripped of parts, slowly. That'll follow the RAV4 soon enough.

Family photo!

OUT: Saab 9-5

IN: Subaru Outback

OUT: Subaru Outback - which I hope is OK, there seems to have been little news

IN: Honda FR-V. Despite the seller's claims to be slightly less interesting than  a wet weekend in Mablethorpe is quite likeable in an I'm not here sort of a way.

I am an utter twat and still have exactly the same five motor cars with twatty names as I did last year;

Billy the blue Rover 75, Susie the scruffy silver Scirocco, Walter the white 944S, Oscar the orange T2 & Yasmine the yellow 1303. Although during a quick tidy of the crap at the back of the garage I found a small motorcycle I'd forgotten about; Ofelia the orange ST70

I am such a twat.

Mercedes ML270 CDI W163. Had this for years and it was a great, reliable workhorse. £350 in 2018 and barely had a problem with it. I fancied something that I had always fancied and my brother wanted a big 4x4/dog carrier, so it made sense to move it on to him for £350 with the agreement that I can borrow it for towing/shooting/whatever.

In and out for the Jaguar, in for the BMW:

IMG-20210719-WA0002.thumb.jpeg.e16d896209c20346768ef6e89b746248.jpeg

Jaguar S-Type 3.0 manual. This car leaves a bitter taste, although that's not quite its fault. I had ALWAYS wanted a sheddy, manual XJ6, ever since I was a teenager. When I went looking for one a couple of years ago, I realised they had all gone. This S-Type was offered to me and I decided it was the closest I'd get so I bought it. Really liked it - it drove very well and it was great fun. The manual gearbox was a great novelty.

I discovered the sills were very rusty and parked it up in July while I considered what to do with it. A scrap dealer offered me £700 for it but I refused it. I wanted to weld the sills up and keep it, but I knew I didn't have the ability myself. Eventually in October I mentioned to a Whatsapp group of my closest friends that I was thinking of offering it for sale and one (who is an occasional Autoshiter) asked for the details about the car so I gave him them. Unbeknownst to me, he posted the screenshots on an Autoshite Facebook group of some kind and got a barrage of comments saying that I was full of lies, that I hadn't been offered £700 and basically that I was a dickhead. I had been planning to offer it here for £400 but it pissed me off so much that I called the scrap man and got my £700 the following morning and the car was gone. I slightly regret it, but it also got me more money than any other option.

In July I bought the BMW in the picture on here as I was going to start a new job with a commute of 70 miles each way. That fell through but then I started a different job with a commute of 78 miles each way, so no big deal. I'll probably keep this 320d until it's time for it to cross the bridge as it's a good car that I think has plenty of life in it and is perfect for the job I need it to do.

Honda Civic Type-R EP3. Not the nicest one out there, but it was about the cheapest and is mechanically pretty much perfect. This is to be a project. I fell in love with driving it instantly. It is the closest thing I've found to the experience of a daily-usable touring car. Absolutely magical drive.

No change:

Boxster S is still here. No plans to move it on. Needs wheel balance and a new window regulator but is more than usable. Just got to get round to it

Not all post 2000 BMWs are bad then!

Shame about the Jag. £700 was a very good decision. I think the cats are worth a fair bit.

The BMW isn't a car I would've sought, but sometimes the right car is offered at the right time! Seems to be the case with this one.

It is a shame, you don't find many manual 3.0 litre S-Types. Still, having seen the screen shots of the comments and the names, I've learned of some people to avoid. Considering I hadn't offered the car or advertised it anywhere, there were some angry people. If the S-Type had been an XJ6, I would've found someone to do the welding but an S-Type was never quite the car I truly wanted

You may be right - I'm unfamiliar with it as I quit Facebook quite a few years ago apart from the Messenger app.

I've just looked up that S-Type and it looks like it hasn't been declared as scrapped yet. I've half a mind to ask about getting it back, but I am not capable of welding or fabricating to the level needed to redo the sills

Easy enough...

In: Nothing.
Out: Also nothing.

Skoda is finally being used for its intended purpose of commuting, MX5 is still fun but looking scruffier by the day, absolutely no Beetle progress, and I nearly sold the Rover but decided to run it in the ground instead.

Having intended on simplifying my carlife again in 2021, I've instead turned to Dickensian philosophy and found happiness in ending up with more than I started with. Hopefully posting now will secure me as "done" for 2021 though because there's not much room at the Inn!
