I have been tempted with an Octavia VRS Mk1 myself,  they do seem to be attracting the "future classic, mate" sellers now so might be a good time before all the good reasonably priced ones are gone

Definitely recommended if you can find one that hasn't been mistreated.  It replaced my Focus ST170 and there's no comparison, the Skoda's superior in every way.  I'm no VAG fanboy but this really is a marvellous all-rounder, it's my second Mk1 Octavia as I ran a silver 1.9TD I bought off here for a couple of years as a work hack back in 2016 - that was on similar mileage and was a brilliant "an car" if somewhat easy to lose in car parks.

yeah I not a VAG fan but I love the look of them, one of the last of the retro boxy looking cars. I nearly bought a yellow one when my 9-5 got written off last year but it was on the isle of wight and I couldn't be arsed faffing around with ferries to go see it

You lot are nuts :D

Due to motorcycles and travelling crazy places I don't do the old shit car thing as much as I did

Out - the visa in 2016

In - the hairdresser of doom

Apart from a service it's needed nothing although it might need a gearbox at some stage and negotiations are happening about a hood if they answer my emails

Other than that it gets used for mileagy trips done about 1800 miles since September - bike hasn't done that since easter and I do 12- 14k + on that

Also the mazda of beige in and out

Sadly been nowhere near it due to current

Sold back to conan although hopefully get a shot soon avec volvo

No Change

1999 Rover Mini

spacer.png

Bought as my first car before I could drive, with no plans to get rid any time soon. It was dailied for a while, and even now it comes out in all weathers, so its starting to look pretty forlorn. My aim is at least make a start sorting the bodywork out next year.

Out

2007 VW Polo

spacer.png

Bought in summer 2018 for £1400, then sold the week before the first lockdown was announced for the same amount (though I did spent more than I should have putting things right that anyone else would probably just have left). Quite a good car all things considered, but I found it spectacularly boring and fancied a change.

In

2000 Mazda MX5

My current daily and a car I've somehow managed to not take any good photos of yet. Bought in February while I was looking for a Mk1, this turned up locally and looked good, so I bought it instead. Considering their reputation for rust, and the fact that this one now has 164,000 miles, it's remarkably solid and hasn't caused a single problem yet.

My fleet as of 2020:

OUT) 1998 Jag XJ8 of much beige, was sadly scrapped due to terminal gearbox borkage. Completely uneconomical to repair even with a second hand unit. Still feel guilty about this one, but I'd lost my Job, and couldn't face, or afford, to throw any more money at it..

IN & OUT) 1998 Salt Dog Focus Estate, possibly the earliest one left on the road, It gained a Boris MOT and soldiered on, I really liked this car, and kept me mobile whilst negotiating long term unemployment. Sold via here to another shiter, hopefully will live on, however it's out of MOT now so future is in the balance I guess.

IN) 2004 Mercedes C180, bought from a bombsite car lot, it's proved to be an impressive car, did a round trip to Glasgow the other day via the east coast, didn't miss a beat and got out of it after nine hours behind the wheel with no aches or pains. Will throw the EML light on when idling and cold, consensus seems to look towards a vacuum leak of some description. Its really clean and tidy, with FSH etc. So will be hanging around for a while I would have thought.

Considering I keep telling myself I have too many cars and have not been able to get out much I have bought more cars this year than I have for a long time. I have wanted a Granada saloon for quite a long time, especially an early mk2 and I particularly wanted a GL, preferably with a 2.8 engine, so when a very original unmessed with one appeared  I thought the opportunity rarely presents itself so made an offer:

image.thumb.jpeg.55a868c96e4ddd44d8d40fb43aaef093.jpeg

This was collection day in February, it was a lovely drive home, no collection thread as my attempts to join here were not successful at the time.

Not long after this I went to the CCI auction in Evesham just to have a look, as you do. There were a few interesting cars there and egged on by offers of somewhere to store cars when I said I had no room for more I decided if the CX was cheap I would like it:

image.thumb.jpeg.e8ef44c0cad5bbd8d772b65c729a468e.jpeg

So above was number 2 purchase of the year. My girlfriend has wanted a Capri for some time and was taken by the mk1, I would of preferred a mk2 but had to agree that a very early mk1 had some appeal and if the price was reasonable then it would be rude not to. So purchase number 3 soon followed.

image.thumb.jpeg.9ac483d63e23fdea6eed76d379701540.jpeg

Due to lockdown and the Citroen being away from home, then work becoming very busy no progress was made on the Citroen, it also had several parts missing which seem to be extremely expensive for these cars. When a cheap complete car appeared on ebay locally it seemed the logical answer to buy it as a spares car. So this lead to the fourth and final purchase:

Out:

Errr.....Yeah right!  I am not so good at selling cars, the Mondeo should of gone 4 years ago but is still here, I must try harder next year.

Remainers:

image.thumb.jpeg.5eb7a4a07fb98a9c25f5b95f6f0e68fc.jpeg

These were both insured and fully road legal at the beginning of the year, the S is now on SORN. Many others will remain also but sadly none have seen much use this year.

Nothing much changes here at barefoot Towers, I've still got the four motor cars in my signature & a 1303. I did however, tot up all the cars I have ever had to discover a dismal total over forty years of just 23 owned plus 6 company cars. So to make up, I thought I'd post a picture of my attempt, some years ago at combining colour matching and A framing.

1332696945_Colourco-ordination.thumb.jpg.26610ca3a7c379b010543e5587cefaad.jpg

That's a 610kg Trabant & a 70kg Honda ST on the back of my bay, so certainly well within the 750 kg unbraked trailer rules. It was never going to go brilliantly, but the steering geometry of the Trabbie meant that it didn't self centre very well. This wasn't a problem in normal use. And although it would follow the bay into a corner, it wouldn't follow it out & would just scrub its front tyres until I got out & straightened the wheels. I only made two test drives around the block.

Hippy xmas!

2020 started with just these two on the drive

IMG_3655.thumb.JPG.a8f0bb25ad11924c728aff3a13bcafc5.JPG

then at the start of lockdown one, I decided I needed a project

IMG_2030.thumb.JPG.d0c6441c62543c49d5f5d6f0bddd2cca.JPG

which I promptly took to bits

IMG_2101.thumb.JPG.2d7c51142470c15e7c58157399a56e0b.JPG

and scrapped the shell

IMG_2149.thumb.JPG.9b3c280b00b480a50e722f09a1203e7f.JPG

six months later, I proudly drove this out of the garage - nowhere near finished but moving under it's own power

IMG_4075.thumb.JPG.4a3f00e5f5115ed8e159e8c76a3be3c2.JPG

the civic was almost roffled but sold via gumtree to a civilian

the money was burning a hole in my pocket  so I jumped on a train to preston and came home with a bini

IMG_4132.thumb.JPG.da72e910cbf0f4d970af41b8d87a20df.JPG

I had planned to sell the mx5 to fund the exo build, going as far as taking pretty photos and even doing adverts

IMG_2503.thumb.JPG.f685e2a74d183a99a3b49d02165ab5e2.JPG

it didn't sell so I took all the trackday goodies off and returned it to standard

IMG_3151.thumb.JPG.d4b75f6021b592ded4549987aa7982ed.JPG

but couldn't resist another trackday, which didn't go well

IMG_3204.thumb.JPG.8922b835f160da1d1200afa56252d55f.JPG

remarkably, we were back out on track an hour after this happened

IMG_3207.thumb.JPG.b2e278dc649dca9c6ed8a7051f0bec92.JPG

then a month later, the cam belt shat itself

IMG_3909.thumb.JPG.c7858e863c678656a8cf8832c5b670fc.JPG

but I love this little car, so it isn't going anywhere for now.

IMG_4077.thumb.JPG.0bda94e6efd4d8ebe12f7f1a7f427c4b.JPG

At the start of the year I bought this.

DSC_1047.JPG

Then I bought a Mercedes.

DSC_0879.JPG

Then I bought a Mondeo.

DSC_1134.JPG

Then we went into lockdown and I didn't buy anything for ages, although I did sell the Merc because it broke, and the Tempra because I didn't really have time to do the work it needed.

Then we came out of lockdown and I swapped this,

DSC_0707a.JPG

a broken 125cc Lexmoto and a bit of cash for this:

DSC_1224.JPG

Then I sold this:

DSC_0925.JPG

Then I bought this:

DSC_1357.JPG

Then I bought this:

RK07YZW osf.JPG

Then I bought these:

DSC_1323.JPG

Then I sold the CR-V.

Then I scrapped this:

DSC_0674.JPG

because of OMGHGF, which is an engine out job on these.

Then I sold the Punto, and bought this:

IMG_5085.jpg

Sadly it turned out to be more broken than anticipated, so I sold it.  Then the next day I sold the Freelander.

And that brings us up to date.  I currently only have eight cars, which is the smallest the fleet has been for a very long time, and to be honest I feel a little bit naked.  There's still a couple of weeks left of 2020 though...

These days I can only be arsed doing one car at a time, so the year started with one of the last of the K11 Micras, and is drawing to a close with a Freelander which despite its age, K series-ness and 140k mileage, rather surprisingly has thus far been every bit as reliable as the Datsun. Who'd'a thunk it? 😲

Start of the year I sold this, which I’d had forever, but needed some love which @paulplom gave it. I miss it.

1468B35E-5F7C-48CB-80D2-FC8E3CE561EA.jpeg

I then went a bit mental and bought an Elise, which is pretty much my dream car...

(Currently having a new radiator and header tank fitted by some K series shaman)

And, finally, I’ve stuck a few miles on the Fiat, although I never dare venture too far from home in it. It always behaves, but, y’know, Italian...

Oh. And my BMW 525d estate wafts on almost faultlessly, now on 170k with original clutch, suspension and everything. When it goes pop I’m tempted by a Merc CLS.

VAG-tastic

I feel like something is amiss with only 2 cars but COVID has reduced my mileage from ~20k a year to ~2k a year! Already browsing classifieds for things I don't want or need

All your links are rather broken...

Chronologically...

In and out.  Saab 9000 from brownnova that needed a door, which I sort of fixed.  I think it's still on AS.

20200215_162339.thumb.jpg.eddd1e96eef070782edad60ec0597b4e.jpg.292075feebd59f217067be4b32cd3fb5.jpg

Out.

Gooner V6.  Stupidly quick and great fun, and a decent car overall.  Trying to sell it was like pulling teeth, but roffle to the rescue!

20191031_173638.thumb.jpg.0b406b0e1bb859455622eefda94622ca.jpg.2ad7a73a6668f0ef73207f5f209defb3.jpg

In.  Morris April lockdown purchase.  Still being tinkered with.  Can't see me selling it for a while.  The 11 went soon after, and I hope it still lives.

20200611_160558.thumb.jpg.64660189f0c64023f68ebe9b76050291.jpg

Out.  Running issue got gradually worse, 2.1TD pump problem I think.

20200111_132932.thumb.jpg.cdad76b9a92f062b905dda5ba92b8ce7.jpg

In and out.  June's ill advised purchase.

20200615_183216.thumb.jpg.4d93f5a5cb772f40964cd6cf73a84266.jpg

Turned out to have HGF, so I sold it on a few months later.  Same bloke who bought my/egg's old Senator hoovered it up and set about fixing it, so that's good.

In.  Pez auto high mileage Xantia.  Ex-giffer and the best of the three I've owned.  I want to keep hold of this, as it's a good versatile daily.

20200915_152832.thumb.jpg.09954e819134316983804aa2d99f25a5.jpg

In and out.  Getting the rear brakes sorted took some effort.  But I learnt how to flare brake pipes in the meantime, so the new MoT felt like an achievement.

20201213_133209.thumb.jpg.e0a2643ac9248dc66ce0e7d2e943ea73.jpg

Money from the above sale is burning a hole already.  Quite fancy a Merc W124 next, or just some random old shit that needs fixing. Either way it'll be a last huzzah before having a lean 2021, due to the household income taking a dive at some point.

The Metro and Cavalier remain fleet stalwarts.  Although I need to figure out what to do with the latter, as it's out of MoT and worryingly surplus to requirements these days.

I was big into my w123/ w124 Mercedes at the time. I’d be pretty happy with a w123 estate and a w124 coupe right now.

Rover now on Facebook marketplace at (probably) vastly inflated price!

Started the year in style, having palmed off the hated 306 cabriolet on @Six-cylinder in exchange for this lovely little AX.

IMG_20200125_140454.thumb.jpg.c26c07b8024c28cd208b1377587f7df2.jpg

I upset the AS massive by painting bits of it.

I acquired the Clio of many shiters from @Angrydicky, but I didn't gel with it.

IMG_20200304_214149_049.thumb.jpg.72b48089814621c6ea4d496e4e8628f0.jpg

Then I bought a battered old Rover, right at the beginning of lockdown.

kd6x-2212f1f5f1405a62e7aacf1000b1d2681.jpg.db27e064612f674234d6758462cec9bc.jpg

Of course I 'ruined' it further, but had loads of fun doing so...

IMG_20200621_123636.thumb.jpg.712f7da373f6da4b2399e79c6882fff8.jpg

In the meantime I won a roffle and obtained this lovely Citroen Bx.

IMG_20200530_180720.thumb.jpg.9fab87b1020152916efd907b07a22450.jpg

Sold it to fund my divorce (now completed - yay!) and spent the change on the (in)famous Fenlander. Kindly delivered by @rob88h

IMG-20200621-WA0012.thumb.jpg.20807d3be779be9044fd6f60daa692e7.jpg

Of course I had to make this my own...

IMG_20201031_162801.thumb.jpg.3a0ae9415fa8ae4eb954d1b03e6123fa.jpg

Now roffled and soon to be @Daviemck2006 's

I bought this Corsa off @wuvvum, but hated it, so sold off for a small loss.

IMG_20200921_170152.thumb.jpg.53d98ecae104cd2891b9d1a6f09a2235.jpg

Latest acquisition is this little Metro that was an absolute steal and has now had a brand new clutch and should be past another MOT soon.

IMG_20201204_104600.thumb.jpg.c4635565e119d82014f8cc2b4f4a3e82.jpg

In: Citroen AX, Renault Clio, Rover 418SLD, Citroen BX, Rover 218D, Vauxhall Corsa, Rover Metro.

Out: Citroen AX, Renault Clio, Rover 418SLD, Citroen BX, Rover 218D, Vauxhall Corsa

There's still time left in 2020 though...

2020 has been quiet, not only in terms of departures and arrivals, but also with those existing cars that actually saw any action this year; Much money thrown at the CityRover, and much time invested in welding the Astra back together. All others have been pretty isolated away from home by the lockdowns... and there's only been one car show attended anyway!

OUT

February saw the Princess head for a new home. I'd been storing it for eight years (which at least kept it from being scrapped) with the intention of getting round to it at some point. Reality dawned, and it was moved on just before the year went down the toilet. Thankfully the new owner has really cracked on with the repairs and its future looks secure.

IN

This delightfully unfashionable Vauxhall Agila, which truth be told I am quite enjoying! A few weeks of everyday use has thrown up no major issues, apart from the dreadful tyres, replacement of which looks to be the biggest upcoming expense. It has revived the registration from 2019's deceased Corsa.
