Oh here: We still have that. I have this sad panda Mrs L1 bought this from Max: Which is amazing and she still has, but probably not the right car for a family trip to Toulon. With @Six-cylinder's cabriolet roffled I bought what I should have got in the first place: Which I still have, and is probably the best car I've ever had. Not a terrible starting point for a year, but we started the year by looking to move house and to visit @TontonTdB in Toulon again, so we needed a cruiser. First of all the LEAF went. Off to Scotland where it's being enjoyed with public only charging. Then the 305 went 405 still kicking about though. In came half of this A frigging great car, now swapped for a pink childs bike. Then this Another brilliant car, in great nick. Rapid and economical, and so low it was unusable on the roads around here. Mega shame, probably should have just lifted it back up again. Instead I bought this which to be fair has been brilliant so far, and is about to be SORNed for the winter to save a bit of tax / insurance money. I also ended up getting this Which has needed a bit of fettling but is turning out to be an excellent car. So: IN: Half a 205; A whole 205; a 306 estate; a 406 estate OUT: LEAF; Half a 205; 305; 306 estate Still here: 405 estate; 406 estate; 205GR; 206GTI. 206 has been treated to a cambelt and a proper fettling courtesy of Mr Jimbob McGregor and is very much a favourite. rantingYoof
Still on fleet... Approaching 188k now. Still going strong, although probably needs a new hub at the front to stop the discs from warping. Required a new offside rear coil spring for MOT, which had to be purchased from eBay as it was £160 from main stealer. New to fleet...future modern shite: Very leggy (91k), turbocharged petrol, very acceptable family wagon with mod-cons and Isofix and the general space and things you need when you have two kids under 19 months (or will have from January). catsinthewelder
At the start of the year I had too many broken cars (405, Dacia 1310, Rover 220 and Disco) and 2 working (Focus and Safrane). I got the 405 working again by paying the garage almost as much as I paid for the car to fix the brakes (still crap) and MOT it but power steering and aux belt issues have seen it do very little this year. The Safrane ran out of MOT just before lockdown one and still works perfectly well but needs a few things doing. So with far to many projects and not enough time I did the only sensible thing and bought another. A 1988 Freight Rover Sherpa with a comedy camper convertion and a top speed of about 50mph on the flat and considerably less on hills which is a slight issue where I live. It doesn't drive too badly to be fair but could do with a new fuel system and realistically a better engine which is helpful as they are about the only 2 bits of the Discovery that aren't knackered. The engine swap can happen after it gains an MOT which could take a while after its impressive fail sheet. I really do need less cars though so if anybody wants the 220 or Safrane please get in touch. Tickman, RobT, davehedgehog31 and 5 others

jmsguzzi
Well it’s almost a year and two months since I passed my driving test so I’ll add the two I had before 2020, it feels a lot longer but that’s probably because I’ve had so many cars.... 1. Seat Ibiza Chill - lasted 6 days after I passed, can anyone top that? 2. Volvo S40 1.8 S - lasted two months, crap car great seats 3. Fiat Croma I.E. Super - lasted 6 months, brilliant car, couldn’t afford to keep it as my only car. Sold it to a lad who’s restoring it. 4. Citroen C3 - lasted 2 weeks, raffle win from eddyramrod, shat all it’s oil and failed it’s mot. Not a bad little car though tbf, flogged it to a mechanic and think it’s still going. 5. BMW 523i SE - one of my dream cars, lasted 5 months. This one still hurts, didn’t realise how good it was till I got rid. May see if I can get it back one day. 6. Rover 620Ti - lasted a week, thought I’d love it but didn’t like it. Now with someone who does. 7. Saab 9-5 2.3t SE - my current daily, it’s a nice car but will probably move it on in the new year. Thankfully my new job means I’m now in a position where I can run more than one car and I won’t need to chop and change so much when I fancy something new. worldofceri, davehedgehog31 and wesacosa
Schaefft
No plans for any purchases or sales for the rest of the year so: Out: 1995 Mitsubishi Galant GLSi hatch: Possibly the cleanest car I've ever owned, bought as it was impossible to lose money and I wanted a Galant hatch for a while, roffled here, then sold to another member and unfortunately written off. Real shame, it really was an incredible, rare car. Well, that was quick. Now the Ins: 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora Autobahn: Bought in January, agreed with the seller to get the vehicle ready for TUV, not much has happened since. Lets just blame covid for that. Its the first Aurora of this generation I've seen coming up for sale in Germany and the UK since I bought my first one 3 years ealier. So yeah, they are pretty rare, and I finally wanna drive it... 1989 Toyota Corona EXiV: I almost forgot about this one. Bought from a guy advertising it in a banger race forum after the link was posted on here. I was always fascinated by JDM exclusive models from the late 80s/early 90s, especially these hardtop sedans, so I absolutely had to have it, especially considering it was only 300 quid and its 1 of 2 I know about existing in the UK. Bought right before the first lockdown so very appropriate choice of vehicle for the time we are living in. Has been at Scaryoldcortina's yard since then, waiting for its pre-MOT inspection. Basically a 4-door Celica with BROWN interior. 2002 Audi S8: Bought in April on Ebay sight unseen, wanted another S8 since I sold my first one, this one was incredibly cheap and has been abondoned for years before the seller bought the car and started some work before giving up. I fixed most things both electric and cosmetic, still needs ABS light and one O2 sensor sorting. The car appears to have been loved by the previous previous owner so this could be a real steal. 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC: This came up for sale in Germany, poorly listed so barely anyone would find it. I tried to convince a mate to buy it, he didnt bite so I bought it instead when the seller lowered the price once again and just wanted to get rid of it. Got it fixed and inspected, its actually a very good car that will need some paint eventually, currently needs a new wheel bearing which I've found in my parts stash. Once again incredibly rare. ] Still here: 1996 BMW 528i: Registered in the UK since February, now daily again. Received quite a bit of love this year's, still needs some more to pass the upcoming mot. 1996 BMW 540i Manual: Still with scaryoldcortina, still need at least one section of sill replaced, plus a ton of other mot relevant work. Would love to be able to drive it again, it's such an incredible car even in the state it was in. 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC: No action for this car this year, needs an atf and power steering leak sorted, plus various other things. Back in hibernation. #1 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora I think the photo says it all hah. Donated it's fuel pump to the German Aurora as it also seems to have a dead pump. 1992 Mercedes 500SEL This car receive a lot of attention this year. Passenger side wing replaced (my first attempt at body work), bumper mounts professionally replaced, bumper resprayed. A few things to sort for MOT, should be ready for spring by then. 1992 Toyota Celsior C-Type Turns out I am fixing everything on this car apart from what's keeping it from getting an mot... Needs complete suspension overhaul. BC coilovers are planned but will be twice as much as I paid for the car. Still trying to find front abs sensors which proves to be difficult (especially with the people I have to deal with typically breaking these cars...). All broken bits in the interior were fixed/replaced though! 1992 Opel Senator 3.0 24V Another car that received a lot of attention during lockdown, sorting many of the cosmetic issues. Still needs a new front bumper and rear doors. I should think about registration too maybe... Thats it. As usual most of these purchases were completely unnecessary but came to be as they were very rare chances of aquiring a vehicle I wanted for a long time, for a very reasonable price, and basically saving them from imminent doom. Soundwave
Well, I'm not planning on any more purchases before the year is out, so let's review...Out: 2013 Fiat Panda - my daily driver, I actually really liked it. Utilitarian charm and pretty decent economy and reliability to boot. Not the most comfortable on long commutes however, and the 60-mile round trip to the office really needed something a bit more refined. Or so I thought... Sold: March 2020.In: 2017 Skoda Fabia - the Panda's replacement, big car refinement in a small package. Yes, it's a modern, and yes it's VAG, but I rather liked it. Perfect for the long commute... which ceased to exist literally the day after I bought it, after our entire operation was moved to working from home. Might as well have kept the Panda! Still, it's a nice car and the reduced mileage means it should last a long time! Bought: March 2020 1995 Rover 216 SLi - bought on a whim because I had my arse in my hands about hesitating on something else it was local, cheap, and had a bit of nostalgia value because my mum used to have one. Scruffy but very solid, owned by a former Rover employee until his death last year. Still not entirely sure what I'm going to be doing with it. Bought: October 2020Non movers: 1971 VW Beetle - my first ever car, and my longest ever project. Off the road since 2010 and still in bits now. Currently making arrangements to get it moved to somewhere I can make some real progress with it. Bought: Fucking ages ago. 1996 Mazda MX-5 - had lots of welding back in January for its MOT. Will be repainted at some point, but no rush. Still plays a vital role in keeping me sane. I know of one example of the Persona variant existing in the UK, its enthusiast owned though so it would never be cheap. Its still incredible to me that both Mazda and Toyota would build such similar looking cars, the Eunos' interior is even more remarkable than that of the Corona EXiV/Carina ED. I assume parts are much easier to find for the Toyotas though, I could probably swap an entire drivetran from a Celica into mine. Im still thinking about getting a V6 Xedos 6 again, a Eunos 500 with the 165hp V6 would be even more amazing. And then theres the Cosmo... Considering I love all of them so much, its hard for me to imagine ever getting rid of it again. Supernaut
One in, none out: Why do I need two cars? Answer; I really don't. I barely do enough miles to justify one. I just saw the Saab looking sorry for itself, and it was cheap (to buy, at least). The classic story then unfolded where it cost more to get it back on the road than the purchase price. However I'm probably only very low 4-figures into it, and it's a nice place to waft around. The 316 continues to be one of the easiest cars to drive and own that I've ever had and just plods along still providing lots of fun well under the speed limit. What do I mean by easy to drive? A nice, light hydraulic clutch and a torquey engine in a light car means pulling away is a case of barely tickling the throttle with your big toe and just smoothly letting the clutch pedal up. Compare that to the Saab which is noticeably heavier and requires a bit more finesse to pull away smoothly. However once it's moving the Saab is definitely faster. Relatively. Comparing these two cars' performance is like comparing the speeds of continental drift and glacial erosion. The sum total of 'fettling' done today involved pouring some screenwash concentrate into the Saab's previously entirely water filled screenwash bottle, and making sure I had de-icer and scrapers in both cars. Previously, they were all in the BMW. worldofceri, egg, stripped fred and 3 others

vaughant
Merc Vito out, realised I was chasing my tail with it, needed loads more welding, was a bit smoky, generally not great but such a shame as they're lovely things to drive, IMO miles better than the equivalent T5 crock. Doesn't look to bad there but : In: (X2) Citroen Berlingo : Collected the night before Boris locked down the world its been fantastic. First drive home was highly unpleasant with a wheel bearing groan and serious wheel wheel wobble on the bends but was easy enough to deal with as I had essential worker status thank god. Been doing sterling service since. I'm so sold on them I've bought another which will be more suitable for the 1 man camper idea but I'll keep tthis as a dog/general van mobile. rob88h
This thread has captured my imagination a bit and I think it’s a neat way to draw a line under 2020 and declare it’s done, move on, next. In: Focus mk2 – Rough example acquired and killed so another rough example could live. Volvo 480 – Couldn’t resist, moment of weakness, tricked myself into thinking it was now or never. Suzuki Baleno – Rare little beasty rescued from a potentially unnecessarily scrap yardy death situation. Out: Mercedes 300TD S123 – Regret the 1st. Jaguar XJS V12 – Regret the 2nd. Focus Mk2 – Scrapped after the useful bits were pilfered. Suzuki Baleno – Sold to a lovely Shitter. UltraWomble
First one out this year was the CB250 Shitehawk which turned out to be a Cat B at some point in its life. It was OK but just not really me and partly due to the changes of Covid wasnt getting used as much as it should... This was swiftly replaced with... Which was great, but also ended up getting left chained up on the driveway and not used. When a mate asked if I had anything small he could use for work as he had started at the jail and was commuting 3 miles he took it on from me. This left a bike shaped hole and was replaced with Which Ive done an astounding 20 miles on since March this year. In fact the MOT has lapsed now and I cant see me being bothered to put a new one on till next year. All 3 bikes worked out as a straight swap more or less money wise. This had an astounding number of things wrong with it and broke down on me whilst in Bristol - in true arsehole fashion I bodged it and flogged it whilst it still had a few months MOT. Judging by the fail sheet that appeared on line in August th new owner probably spent about the same as the GDP of Ghana on getting it through. Sold for £375.... And This lovely* Astra bought for £320 Which I quickly set about ruining. The Disastra was brilliant as "An Car" but a little thirsty on oil using about a litre every 400 miles. Shortly after I bought a Tomos... Which turned out to be utter shit and ended up broken for parts - I just about broke even on this. In the summer the family gadabout and faithful bus of the last 12 years gave us arseache for the last time and was sold - cost £9000 12 years ago and sold for £500 the Citroen C8 is now Northern Monkeys headache. And an astounding £16000 was spent on its replacement - the Seat Alhambra Regular listeners will have no need of a high fibre diet and will also know that I drowned the Astra last month in a stupid act of "thats only a puddle" driving. The car went via CTB and I got £165 for it. The night before the water was above the headlights ( there is a brook next to the road that had shat itself) The Disastra was replaced with £1945 worth of Citroen C3 Picasso and the ownership got off to a rocky start. When it runs its bloomin lovely - bags of space in side, a really good turning circle, comfy and with the right amount of toys. worldofceri, The Moog, stripped fred and 3 others
davehedgehog31
Non mover 405 still here, tested and insured but on SORN. Outgoing 205 went to @Jim Bell and has since changed hands a couple of times. Really miss this car. Peugeot 406 went to @Gerrymcd, then back to @SRi05. Now perished, goodnight sweet prince. The 607 survived into 2020 (just). Much longer than it had any right to. Baled. In and back out A couple which have come on fleet and then left again. First among them the Jeep. Bought cheap with no MOT. Was a really nice car and the best profit I've turned on a car, although that wasn't the motivation. Really enjoyed it and glad to have ticked the box. Saab 9-5 Aero. I bought this from a nice lad on the Saab forum who had owned it for a good 5 or 6 years and really looked after it. Cosmetically down at heel but still a great car and ridiculous value for money. Now with @loserone In and still here Finally the two I've bought this year and still have. Firstly the 107. Came from @Jimbob McGregor . I've owned three of these now and think they're a great addition to any fleet. Dependable, cost pence to run in every respect and always a market for resale. Surprisingly capable little cars. I've done a few bits and bobs to tidy this one up a bit, new interior from a higher spec Aygo, new stereo and stuff. Makes it really nice to live with. Lastly, sneaked another incomer in in the last few weeks of 2020. Lexus RX300 SE-L. Probably the nicest car I've owned. Reinvested the Jeep profits into this. Bought off a chap on the Lexus forum. Lots of history and seems to have been well looked after. Black leather interior and all mod cons etc etc. Chuffed with it so far. Will post a bit more about it soon. So eight int total owned and driven this year, down from last years 12. Finishing the fleet with three cars instead of the four I started it with so that's progress. I'd think things are fairly settled, but I've thought that before.... mk2_craig, Split_Pin, dome and 6 others
