From our Eastern Europe correspondent

Just back from a short break in Budapest - was naïvely still expecting to see lots of Soviet Bloc chod  - bugger all - everything shiny and new - these were the oldest cars I spotted

Other than that, some of the number plates had a weird luminous green tint

now over to Laszlo for the weather ...

I naively hoped to see eastern block stuff when I went in 2010 but I didn't see much then. Not like when my grandparents drove there from the UK in the 60s, and had to report to the police station every day in their beetle!

The green tint is the equivalent of our green strip for electric vehicles.

Eastern European cars completely disappeared from Polish road about 25 years ago. In Poznan, western Poland, a large proportion of new and old cars are now either VAG or Korean.

The good old days.

For anyone going to Budapest this place is a short train ride out of the city and well worth a visit to see some soviet era cars amongst other things

really enjoyed our visit - the house of terror was very sobering, locals very friendly - the retro design centre looks very interesting - did spot this LP in a bar .........
