There are lots of them at the moment & that R25 is part of the 'Cars of the eighties' series which I believe is only sold in Spain. Probably 99% of my models like this have had to be bought from abroad. I've purchased from most of these sellers before & never had a problem with any of them! My most recent eBay disappointment was a Joe Pasquale dvd from a UK seller - a definite 'no show'! Paid for on the 22nd Sept (it was one of those asking for immediate payment - obviously it doesn't work both ways! I keep a roving eye over these models to see what becomes available, usually as soon as a new one is released, they start to appear on eBay. So I'm pretty sure this R25 is a recent release, along with it looks like, a Skoda 120LS and a VW Polo MkII. I'm lagging behind a bit on several releases but there are so many - it's a shite fest in miniature!I've just paid for a Citroen LNA & a Merc L309 minibus.I also bought not so long ago a 1981 Ford Taunus (Cortina MkV !) and a Granada MkII has also become available! They seem to be covering cars never covered before (IXO, Universal Hobbies & Norev who supply the partwork releases to Spain & France respectively), so hats off to them! The models are like slightly less detailed versions of new models they will shortly bring out on general release, so it's a good way of deciding whether they're good enough to shell out for the higher price versions when they become available! Eventually companies like Minichamps will usually bring out a higher quality model (at a price) but it takes them much longer to churn them out, their catalogue has thousands of proposed releases in it. Impressive nonetheless.Yep, it seems over the past few months alot of the oldest ones have turned up over here really cheaply - annoying because alot of those ones are ones I paid top whack for a couple of years ago! (around £10 each) They've obviously shipped certain ones over in bulk - you'll notice the same ones keep cropping up. Perhaps thats an argument to wait until they've been out a while. Bit of a risk though as they don't all suddenly turn up everyhere at rock bottom prices a year or two later. Some of them genuinely disappear & are hard to come by after a few months.As for the Norevs, the answer's both. If they already had an old model in their range, then they just rehash it & update it slightly, but the other ones are new in the range, and partwork releases are the first place to cop your hands on them / see them first. I think they've really ploughed alot of money into their range in the last few years & all the gaps in the range are slowly filling up. I don't know why they didn't cover certain cars until recently, but I wish they would start again with all of them! For instance the Renault 9 is a rehashed model made in the 80s but fully painted up - it's only just acceptable, it's a bit of a poor representation TBH! But the Renault 11 had never been covered so the model is recent in the range - it's top draw, take it from me! I have several colour variations of this model. But laziness & cost cutting means that if you want the R9 in your collection, you'll pay £20+ for the properly packaged shop release version, same as you will for the R11 & any of the better ones! Probably a bit crappy in comparison proportions-wise.Do you know if the model manufacturers have to get permission from the car makers first? I know that for ages Vauxhall wouldn't allow the licensing permissions for models of their cars to be made. Only recently did they relax the policy & now companies like Corgi Vanguards have been able to churn out things like the Cavalier MkII. I say more fool them - surely allowing model cars to be produced helps promote the vehicles? Ok perhaps not when they're old shiters, but where's their sense of celebrating their heritage? Pretty sure this happened with the Corgi Metro, Escort and Sierra.Dunno what the story is now, but I seem to recall Vanguards worked closely with Jaguar for their model of the new XJ. I try to keep it to below 50, as at £20 each it's not a cheap hobby (the larger scale 1/18 are nearly £40 each & the 1/43 scale lorries / coaches are anything upto £70 each), especially when anything up to 10 can come in at once to my chap & I'm expected to cough up for the lot. I haven't seen him since he gave me the tickets for Goodwood back in June actually and I know plenty have been released since then. I normally hear from or see him once a month, so I hope he's ok! I haven't approached him incase I remind him that he needs to sting me for some more models! Just hoping he's not suddenly going to tell me that he has about 20 for me or something stupid 20 x £20 = £400 I tell ya, the real things are cheaper! As for the 1980's collection, yes I am afraid as far as I can see they will be repeating the series here, the older stuff we have had - R4/5/6, Estafette, Simca which was part of the French Collection is now getting difficult to find as no more seems to be coming in although the newer stuff - R12 Gordini, R5 Turbo, 205GTi etc is now available....
