EGR thermostat replaced today.

New one on the left, O ring not included however I had replaced the old one about a month ago so swapped it over.

Goes here, right at the front of the engine:

The test is to see if you can blow through it, if yes then its stuck open.

The control was the new one, no air could pass, but I could easily blow straight through the old one. The car had been sitting for a few days as well.

Will bleed it properly and take it for a test drive tomorrow.

Is this in the era of BMW and the temperature gauge is no more than a broad range happy meter?

Posted

Yes the guage is centralised and entirely linear from about 78c to 100 or so. Your E46 is the same.

So it goes from 'thermostat stuck open' to 'oh shit'.

This was running at 76ish and the guage was a touch below half which isn't right.

Is the gauge/sender ok?

Went to a new place today:

He said they are very pale.

I think its the lights from a Supercharged model which it came with that are faded. I have the originals, some new bulbs and we should be good to go.

For a 21 year old Land Rover, that's bloody good going, happy with that.

The test fee is also only £40.

Just been out to the garage and the originals have bulbs fitted so I'm just going to swap out the existing units and sell them (I believe they are semi- desirable?).

They are a bit ghastly anyway:

Might even make the test fee back selling the lamps!

Great shout - those are fecking grim.

Quality result on the MOT!

Fitted the old lights again. They are a bit fucked but they do work. I also prefer them ten times over to the clears (anyone want them for £50 lol, theyre in decent condition but will obvs need new bulbs).

Also, every nut and bolt I or a mechanic has undone on this car has been greased by whoever was there before, even the 10 mils that hold the lights on. I'm going to presume the previous owner James so thank you for that!

I'm bringing it down to the test station again tomorrow morning hopefully for a Pass!

Because I did all the lights I now have a Pass with no advisory items.

Someone is coming for the old lights this evening so for the first time ever, I should actually be up by some money after an MOT!

The utopia was short lived 😂

After some spectacularly heavy and long-lasting rain, Mother Nature is setting about ruining the infotainment system.

The screen was fuzzy and rolling like an old VHS tape and with the car switched completely off, there's some impressive static and bass thuds firing through the speakers.

After some helpful advice on the L322 FB page I traced the water ingress to the LH boot recess where all the ICE paraphernalia lives. As a starter for ten, the 2  right hand plugs were wet.

The spare wheel well is also full of water.

Someone's been in about the C pillar trim/headliner before me so it's probably happened before. As well as attacking everything that looks like a seam with sealant/red rubber grease, I'm going to copy a shield someone on the Group made from a 5l car shampoo bottle to fit over the electrics.

Things never get boring with the L322. I cannot wait to find out what will happen next after I've replaced the air strut in mine. Probably one of the turbos blowing up or something.

Made a shield for the amp out of an old 5l antifreeze bottle.

Tailgate seal being the source of water ingress low 90s percent certainty. Packed it with red rubber grease and refitted. New ones £160, I think not.

Syphoned out the swimming pool in the wheel well. At least this confirms it's rust free!

I could easily remove the bung but fuck lifting the 19 inch spare, work smart not hard.

Are these like the early X5 where they have a mechanism that slots into the tailgate latch and then by folding it down, it lifts the spare out of the well for you? A handy thing, especially when you’ve got to replace a wheel by a motorway (ask me how I know)
