scruff
Bump for a real thread. Excellent spots Barrett and nice to see my old stomping grounds. The untaxed-for-two-decades 126 in Petworth has been there for as long as I've been driving (nearly 11 years) but has always looked good, I think there was a Mini with it at one stage. Datsuncog
Likewise, some tremendous spottage on here! A fantastic compendium of tat, and a most pleasant way to spend an hour or two. Brighton and the surrounding area was certainly a great location for chod - I took a fair few pics when I lived there between 2001-2005, but managed nowhere near the pinnacle achieved here. Incidentally, I recognised the gold 2dr Viva HC you snapped outside the flats on the Clarendon Rd in Hove, as it belonged to a serial Vauxhall-licker; back in 2003 he was running a blue L-reg 4dr which was hit hard up the rear and written off. On 10/4/2011 at 3:29 PM, barrett said: Vauxhall Viva HC by barrogance, on Flickr He then left a note on my own HC, asking if I was interested in selling it - I rang him and had a very pleasant chat, though I didn't want to sell mine at that point. He said he just loved Vivas as they were so simple; and not long after, he tracked down the gold K-reg one you snapped. I have pics of both the pranged blue car and the gold two-door, though annoyingly I was still using 35mm film at the time and so they're still boxed away in the attic, waiting for me to spend about three years of my life scanning them in... Google shows the Viva was still there in 2012, but gone by 2014... I'm deeply impressed it was still there nine years later, regardless! michael t
michael t
@datsuncog - I'd love to see some of your chod spotting whenever you do get around to scanning your 35mm film. barrett
I have a feeling that gold Viva was totally rotten. It appeared on ebay at some point with detailed photographs of all the rot and it was absolutely hanging. Shame it couldn't have held on a couple more years for the MoT exemption. Which was your Viva @Datsuncog? Was it the two-tone one on black Wellers? Datsuncog
Datsuncog
22 minutes ago, barrett said: Which was your Viva @Datsuncog? Was it the two-tone one on black Wellers? Heh, sadly not! I was driving a Honey Starmist 2dr HC on an M-reg, very similar to yer man's but with a black vinyl roof - but unless you were taking pics in 2003/04 then I don't think you snapped mine! My 1256cc had ongoing head gasket problems and after an engine swap failed to help matters, I repatriated it to NI and eventually sold it for a pittance. In a twist of fate, it ended up with Junkyarddog of this parish but, like the car in Hove, had become totally rotten and only good for parts. No HC can stand up to being parked outside in all weathers, it seems... if I ever get a garage, that's when I'll consider another 70s motor. Psycho Charlie Knobcheese
Enjoyed reading through the whole thread. I recognise half the cars/locations from my time living down in Brighton.
