I have to say I still use additive in the Renault 6 when I'm doing a long run, but that has an iron head and the engine is spinning at over 4,000rpm at 60.

Have they got rid of the daft 80km/h limit then?  That's good news.

Where's yes oui si when you need him?

Yes it's 90kph on the D-Roads - but some jurisdictions have discretion to lower it to 80-kph. There are  sections where they come down to 70-kph and 60-kph depending on road conditions - careful attention has to be paid to the signs. It's 50-kph in all built up areas inside the place-name signs  (this isn't signposted) though sections of 30-kph are not uncommon which are signposted.

There are quite a lot of speed cameras these days - and they don't get vandalised like they used too.

Quite a find that blue one innit. I think the only thing I could really do with is a RH rear door (assuming the LH one I've got my eye on, comes through OK)

Have you got much history with the car? I'm assuming it was 'much loved' by the seller's father for years- any photos of it at raves back in the 90s or anything?

Ive got nowt like that, no paperwork etc. Seller said he got it off his wife's uncle who was a bit of a shite car lover by the sounds of it but I got the impression it wasn't one of these 'been in the family since new' situations

Wikipedia says 2,139,008 of these made - the UK van versions were badged 'Dodge' apparently for a short time.

This thread has given me bad ideas about going to Germany to bring back some old Opel or similar. Off to browse mobile.de for a bit.

Count me in on that one!!!

1.8 all round then - translates to 26 psi according to Google? Soft ride...

70s tyres had a different build with stiffer, sidewalls. Think the Dolly is around 26psi by the book but drives awfully, like it has flat tyres, at those pressures.

Yes, this is an aluminium head with inserts in it, and I am fairly sure they have all been unleaded capable since the engine was released.  I know for sure the later ones were as I ran various simca 1294 engines on sans plomb for years.  Only thing they ever needed was a couple of degrees of ignition timing retard to allow for 95RON Vs 98RON.

Filled me grits earlier when I got stuck in a traffic jam and we got VERY hot.

Seems to be OK when you're rolling along but traffic jams are a problem.

I figured the electric fan must have carked it. Stopped in the services for a look.

Hmm what's going on here? Followed the extra wires (all properly clipped in btw) and found this!!

'Kinell man, I was shitting myself and all I had to do was press a button.

Tell you what though, I was glad about those reassurances that you can boil these up like a school dinner carrot and they just don't care.

Anyway we didn't quite boil up and as soon as we got rolling again it all cooled down.

I killed a perfectly good Rover 2600 by not turning on the aftermarket Kenlowe "money saving" fan while stuck in traffic. The poor SD1 had survived 12 years and something like 226000 miles before I managed to destroy it in less than a fortnight.

Aren't you tempted to buy it so you could RHD convert yours? That would double its value at least.

Angouleme can’t be a million miles adrift from your route to Paulmy, you don’t fancy a detour to track down the supplying dealers premises?

Though it’ll probably be derelict anyway. Seems to be some talk of the place here: https://forum-auto.caradisiac.com/topic/374126-enseignes-et-façades-de-vieux-garages/page/190/

This seems to be the site of the original supplying dealer in Angoulême, sadly.

It looked like this in 2016 (isn’t Google StreetView a wondrous thing?)

Its all more work innit, tbh i just cant be bothered changing mine to RHD, also I prefer the later dashboard I think. I'm just gonna try to tidy up the bodywork a bit and leave it at that!!!

Meteo France weather forecast today is good - running into Saturday and Sunday. Tomorrow looks the hottest day with some 26°.  No storms or adverse weather predicted that I can see over the w/e so far.

Happy driving.

Good luck with the test. Did you have the foresight to get some brandy miniatures as a small aperitif to the test? (not a bribe, oh no, just a friendly gesture)
