Surely, a visit to the local scrap yard for a set of R75 alloys with good* tyres is the answer ?

I can't imagine this thing having brakes large enough to make the 18" rims essential ?

I'm not spunking out that sort of money on an MG I'm only renting!

get a set of wheel spaces or whatever it is you need to put alternative rims on a car, and stick a set of TX wheels on it? LOL

like the exact opposite of the sort of thing @yes oui si does

Or I could just hand it back and get a different car?

But where's the fun in that?

I'll happily admit to choosing the MG6 over more sensible cars for shits and giggles.

Whats happening with the E7? My TX just keeps plodding along, slowly, but hasnt given any cause for concern. Doesn't make for an interesting thread like I thought it might...

Three weeks to get it through inspection.

Any progress? Not had any updates on your fares or conquests recently - guess you're head-down earning as much as you can in the cold.

The upward arrow indicates the social mobility direction of MG6 drivers.

I thought that was to help the driver know which direction to go in?

Just spent the last 15 minutes being followed down the M6 before Corley Services by a black MG6.  RK16 registration.

Thought it might be you Warren.  Apparently not but it is being worked as it had a big ‘Uber’ sticker on the side…

This looks like it is going to be a fixture in my life for longer than expected. Lucky you!

I spotted a red MG6 the other day and was reminded of this thread.  How's progress?

It's chewing up the miles OK although we have reached the stage in our relationship where little niggles are starting to appear. The ride is harsh, about on par with an Escort XR3i and although that's still better than a TX2 it is starting to annoy me. The turning circle is awful. At first I put this down to being used to the TX with the 25' turning circle but it seems that it's just shit. The MG6 automatically locks the doors when pulling away and the switch to unlock is hidden behind the gear lever. On the subject of locks, to exit the rear a passenger has to pull the handle twice. The cupholder gets in the way of a front seat passenger's legs. Sometimes it won't engage first gear without a fight.

I don't know why but I wonder how the MG 5 compares to these. Yes, it's a totally different type of car since ev, but still.

Because after some searching, it looks like MG 5s are being used as taxis and I am curious as to what they are like.

I've driven both, the MG5 EV is light years ahead.

Last Friday the NSF headlamp decided to blow. Replacement involved removing the wheel arch liner and many swear words that'd get me banned from here. All went well until a few days later when the liner fell down and got caught in the front wheel dragging out part of the front bumper in the process.

Front electric passenger seat has stopped reclining.

Stop/Start has stopped working.

Hill hold, ABS, TCS shits itself several times a night.

Proximity sensors are seeing ghosts.

Current MPG 46.6.

Today I learnt that diesel starter motors are NLA ...

"The one we look after" has indeed shat it's starter.

Even the trusty MG dealer, brown and gammons, can't help on this one, they don't have any in stock and they said the starters are no longer supplied by MG.

A few dodgy silver paint affairs on eBay for £500

Spoke to a local factors who have tracked one down for a salty £290 + VAT

These cars are NOT cheap to keep running unfortunately.

Can’t you get your local rotating electrics place to service the existing one?

That is indeed a possibility but sadly most of the ones I know of have closed down. One of the factors offers a service where they will send a batch of units away once a week which is a good option or there is one place approx 10 miles away. Whichever way you think of it, it could be an extra couple of hours of our time spent getting it rebuilt if we have to drop it off and then pick it up at a later stage (charged at our hourly rate) as well as the cost of having it rebuilt, against the cost of the exchange unit for a quicker repair turnaround.

Could ship the unit somewhere but then that could mean the car is off the road for a week waiting for it to arrive there, get rebuilt, and then shipped back.

Being such an obscure starter, there is always the possibility an extra part is needed that isn't kept in stock and may have to be hunted down.

Of course it's an option, but sadly these days it's unviable to do on a retail repair basis if it can be helped.

The best one in Liverpool (Key Auto Electrical) closed down as he said the modern Bosch alternators and starters were too reliable!

Combine that with cheap and cheerful crap from China and he said the writing was on the wall.
