Taxi Drivers Past and Present - Any Stories To Share; funny, interesting, scary etc.?

I've been meaning to start this topic for a while, not sure if something similar already exists.

I know there's a couple of taxi drivers on here, past and present. Do you have any interesting stories to share? My taxi journeys are pretty mundane but I always try to make small talk, I just hate awkward silences. I try to go beyond the usual 'have you been busy' and 'what time do you finish' bollocks. I've had a couple of journeys with the Mrs in the past where we've been properly pissed and cannot even remember getting home 😬

Anyway, a quick story from me as a passenger from a couple of years ago. Not too far from home and the taxi driver indicates and is about to turn down a one way street. I let him know before he does so and he simply says 'no problem' and spins the car around and proceeds to reverse at about 30 MPH the full length of the street!

Coming back home with the Mrs one night it was obvious the cab driver wasn't going to stop as requested at the 2nd lamppost on the left. I called out "whoa" and he was most unhappy with me and got quite aggressive - turns out he thought I was calling him a Ho!

Is it a myth that Taxi Drivers get offered sexual favours from customers, just seems a bit unlikely someone would blow you for a ten quid fare. Maybe an airport run though 😂

Unless they’re proper proper foul blistered piss pot faced crackheads I’m assuming it’s bullshit.

Never had a fare offer sexual favours in lieu of payment. Have however, had a couple that have paid the money then asked if i fancied finishing early. I have politely declined in the couple of instances thats happened though

Any girl wanting to pay a tenner cab fare wi the hairy purse needs a good wash down wi some dettol an a wire brush

I was once looking at Tractors and stumbled on this situation where a very attractive lady was unable to pay a fare and ended up doing just this.

I got in a cab with my buddy when we were working in Mexico City.  Beetle obviously. Picks us up at hotel and we go down slip round on to motorway. Base of slips road driver jams it into reverse and proceeds backward up the hard shoulder at about 50mph. 
We are shitting it as other cars hammer past doing 70 or whatever. Standard of driving isn’t great in Mexico to start with. 
After plucking up enough courage to figure it’s worth distracting him and risking certain death to find out why the fuck we are going the wrong way, driver explains he needs fuel and the nearest station is at the previous junction. 
why we didn’t just get on the other direction who knows. 
Fortunately we lived to tell the tale and get clean underwear

I did have one where the fare was something like £4 and the hooker I wasdropping off said I could either have the £4 or £2.50 and a blow job!

Here's an example from tonight of what we have to put up with.

I was on a job taking a Nigerian care assistant to her shift in a residential home, a trip of couple of miles which clocked about £5.30. As I'm pulling into the car park where she works an emergency alert comes on the PDA of a driver requiring assistance. I'm a couple of miles away so well within response range so I tell the lady that'll be a fiver as I wanted her out of the cab so I can go and help the driver in trouble. At this point she insists on paying via Apple Pay so I tell her to pay me next time as I have to respond to an emergency. After waiting for what seems like an eternity for her to exit the cab I scream away to the location of the driver in trouble only to get stood down halfway there. 

And what was this driver emergency?

So basically I've not just let a fare off without paying, but burnt miles off my tyres and clutch all because one driver felt scared dealing with the male half of Peter's And Lee.

FFS! The only times I remember anything like that happening - 10-10 I think was the radio call or maybe 10-13 - (granted, I only did it for 3.5 years) was one aggressive guy and 2 RTC's. Was 30+ years ago tho.

This is a post I made over on TDW a few years back but edited for the PC AS community.

In all fairness, it's actually pretty rare to find myself in life-threatening situations but sadly, they can happen.

A couple of years ago I found myself attending a two car job from a very wealthy area going to just outside of Chester. Unusually for this sort of job it has a CASH UP FRONT QUOTED ABOUT £30 message attached. I rock up to the address to see what's what. It turns out that that it's a family of about six travelers who've had their van taken off them by the police after turning up at a house to demand payment for some tarmac job. Both myself and an Asian driver in an Auris collect our money up front as agreed and Mummy Traveler, Daddy Traveler and ickle baba Traveler get into my car and the three older kids hop into the Auris. As I know the way I agree to take point and let the Auris follow.

The route options back to the gypsy camp site were as follows, the short route clocked about £28 but was 10 minutes longer than the quick route that clocked £33.50. As it was a cash up front job I choose the fastest route and spend the journey chatting to Daddy Traveler who was determined to try and sell me a LHD Merc W123 diesel on Irish plates! When we arrive at the camp we're lead through a maze of caravans until we reach a dead end and stop the cars. After gypsy Parents hop out of my car I get a bang on my window from the other driver demanding help. I hop out to see him arguing for another £3.50 he's owed and apparently traveler Kids have terrorised him the entire journey.

I survey my limited options. I'm blocked in. The gypsy community are surrounding us. We've been paid adequately. We're miles out of area. I can't imagine the local plod being too keen to help. I've got a fellow driver who believes in the taxi code and assumes I'll back him up to the death. I step forward and explain to the fight hungry travellers that this is all my fault and a misunderstanding between myself and the other driver and I should have made it clear to him that I was taking the faster, but longer route. I drag the other (still protesting) driver into his Toyota and tell him forcefully to hit reverse and get out of there at once or I'll kick fuck out of him before leaving what's left of his 5'5" frame for the gypsies to finish off. He engages reverse and does as he's told.

This was just another situation where I can see both sides of the argument and have forced to talk my way out of a gypsy beating.

I can't say that I can ever remember an occasion when I've been scared by passengers whilst driving a hack due to the screen and partition. Driving a saloon PH car then maybe twice a year? I'm a big fucker who can look after himself so the squeaky arse moments are usually caused by me being outnumbered. In over twenty years I've never been robbed, even though I work on Merseyside.

A mate had a "lady" take a shit in rear of his hackney on floor. Had various offers from ladies and had a few from blokes tbh.

Dropped a bloke off in middle of field in freezing weather because he wudnt give me his address Because "you never know" he gave me £70 for a £30 job

A mate had a bloke ask for hospital and died on way there, he had a fiver on him and my mate was in 2 minds whether to take it before going into a&e 🤣

Invited into swingers club more than once

Offered sex by a 6ft bloke in a dress, hairy chest showing.....

Had a lad say he was going to stab me because I had his mate by the neck up against taxi, he bottled it before I did lol

I did it for 17 years and you would honestly not believe the stuff that goes off

I was watching an old Crimewatch reconstruction from the 80’s a while back, it was a compilation of all the murders - yes I am that sad. A worrying number of victims seemed to be minicab drivers!

And mostly unsolved. There were the Heathrow minicab murders, Mk3 Cortina and HC Viva and the Stoke killing involving a Mk2 Cavalier.

So question is, do cabbies see more of the 'unusual' people of the world - and that's where these stories come from, or is it just one of these things that these are the people who walk among us?

Do want to go pseudo deep on y'all on a thread like this, but I think there's something psychologically different about travelling in a cab compared to a private vehicle.
