Yea I already told him off for that on the xm fb group 😂 Malaysian built vacuum indeed 😡

Hoover made cylinders in Dijon during the 90s, you need one of those @maxxo

Whilst yes I agree it’s Malaysian built but it still counts as a classic as it’s better than their current offerings

Certainly is. The Dyson v11 is a cunt for needing new motors, and there used to be a decent supply of working ones for £40/50 on ebay. That's dried up now, I've got 2 here that are in the process of being written off or the customer spends over £100 on an entire main unit 😢

All the parts fit each other too, so you could get all the scrap ones you want and make a custom colour! Manchestervacs did that once and it looked quite good

I’m a huge fan of the dc07, I’d say it’s probably their best upright

the other advantage is that there’s still absolutely loads of them out there and they’re really cheap, so worst case if it’s catastrophic I scrap it and buy another

Tempted for get a dc15 for downstairs as they’re rather quirky

Yea worst case is £18 for a motor, £5 for a clutch white wheel and belt set 👌

Although some body parts are being hard to find. I had a dc04 I needed to replace the cleaner head on as one of the tabs that holds the upper brushroll housing in place snapped (tadts). Wasnt many on ebay at all and most were shite, paid £19 posted for a scrappy dc14 one (they all fit) and cursed myself for throwing so many good ones away over the years! (but I've no place to store them so I'm glad I didn't still... Customer paid the money 👌)

Dc15s are nice. Heavy and big, but I do like them!

Check the baseplate though before you buy one, and the brushrolls. They get beaten up to fuck and spares aren't everywhere for those either. I remember a couple of years ago having to fix up a slightly melted brushroll on one as I could find any for sale new or used. Was noisy but ran

as the weather is getting better i need to fix something

so the heater is stuck on fully hot, nothing broken behind the knob so it'll be the flaps behind the glovebox

this wasn't an issue until recently with it being cold and a stuck mostly open thermostat made it quite pleasant actually

but now it's warm enough where on most journeys with any bit of town driving it gets up to temp adding to the warmer weather it makes it rather unpleasant

so that's my job for tomorrow, see if i can mend it

the heater is very good, it works too well

Hopefully it's just something gummed up. An old toothbrush, can of brake clean, some rags and spray cleaner, swearing then fresh lithium spray sloshed everywhere might do some good?

Nothing much to say

been fine as per usual

slight issue with the starting circuit, it didn’t engage the starter motor correctly and just clunked, now I’m not sure if that’s a failing ignition switch or starter motor, I might do the relay addition to it and see if that improves matters

today I’ve used a fair bit of kurust on all noticeable corrosion just to try and protect it a little before I paint over it all

its quite a solid car tbh I’m impressed

I can’t remember, is it an auto? My auto BX used to do this, I never cured it but I had a suspicion it was the gear selector inhibitor switch, if I jiggled the gear selector it started right up

On XM's its often neither of those. First port of call is the relays hanging upside down along the underside of the nose inside the bonnet opening. One of them controls the supply to the starter and often causes just a click

(when i say often, i mean 4 out of the 6 XM's i've owned or looked after did it at some point) Clean up the relay holders, check the wiring and clean the relay connector spades before getting in to removing starters etc

Thanks for all the replies, it’s got no worse yet and definitely feels more electrical than anything else

Little job done yesterday, these areas especially had been letting the car down, especially the rear bumper

IMG_0951.jpeg.1e90ad10eb85f6465c7d925db5396fe6.jpeg

so I decided to paint it, of course, zero prep and minimal masking as per with my paint jobs

heres the results

IMG_0953.jpeg.8a0edb2d56e9d976bacaa49e6d21c77b.jpeg

IMG_0954.jpeg.313b3e8e738b0422eda16b389f35689a.jpeg

also ended up tidying up a few other scratches, putting kurust on some concerning areas before painting over

i must admit I’m very happy with the results

it looks much much tidier and makes me realise this is actually a very good example of an XM

went down to Sedgefield yesterday

happened to come across this when returning to the car

May be an image of van and text that says "Diesel Litre 153.9 Argos habitat® Τ TLISNA OF 다nc L382 L382CKK o 00"

i seemed to step back in time!

lovely to see a C15, not a common sight these days

Thank you so much for posting this. Have now ordered suitable plates for my son’s Hidson’s supplied Citroen BX. Original plates had been lost along the way. Do you have a photo of the Hidson’s dealer sticker I could get copied?

You’re most very welcome!

unfortunately not as it was never in place on this car, I’ve never been able to find one online either

it’s something I’d absolutely love to have as well

cleaned up the relay's under the bonnet, does seem to be starting better now which is good

going to Paul Breeze-Robert's  funeral on Thursday, someone who is dearly missed in XM circles and makes owning these cars much harder

sad sad day indeed

decided as it's near enough 500 miles exacty from my house to the chapel and back to see if i can do the whole trip on half a tank of diesel

i bet i can

i seem to be able to get around 350 miles per half a tank at the minute with combined driving

so i reckon if i stick to a steady 60 and take it slow i can get 500 to half a tank, which is something i will be extremely pleased with i must admit

good on ya for going to the funeral. A gigantic loss to the XM community and a bloody nice bloke. Life can be unspeakably cruel sometimes

Not bad is it. My 10 year older 1986 CX DTR with the 2.5 turbo non intercooled did 48mpg.

I wish my old tct did 54mpg, I'd have been able to afford to keep it then 😢 26-28mpg was something I couldn't afford

very very pleased with how this car has been

another decent chunk of miles covered this weekend driving down to Wetherby to the Citroen car club northern rally

including lots of thrashing around the racecourse deomstrating hydropneumatic suspension

absolutely no issues at all, i even slept in it both nights and it wasn't absolutely horribe either!

441871467_7724648317592534_8344809382585979329_n.jpg.475f29133d3de896e88f974c4dbdab05.jpg

really quite pleased with how the car is looking now as well, it's driving beautifully, a few more little jobs to sort out and it should be about as good of an XM as you can get!

so here's a few photo's of the event as i know you will all be wanting to see

as you can see, the XM was in great company

i must admit, a C6, now that's a car with presence, i'm massively tempted

a quick job i decided to do upon returning home was finally get round to replacing the front plate

now despite the old plate being in the correct font for the era it wasn't in the best condition i must admit

now if you recall when i had those reproduction plates made up i got the front and rear?

well yes, i did the rear when i first got them but for some reason, life etc, getting in the way i never actually got around to doing the front plate until today that is

so here is a photo of the before with the old plate, little bit scabby in places albeit not horrific

441874250_7724648480925851_6441335366025294123_n.jpg.72e1116f118621ee009293ebfaf5e468.jpg

actually scratch that, i could never get it clean properly and it is quite scabby really, it does let down the front of the car

but no worries!

all is sorted

due to the magic of computing computers and the tinterweb it's an instant transformation

here we go

443719477_7724648914259141_9015757130215951874_n.jpg.67406dde16dfc4127b3f531bb5f4a263.jpg

now i don;t know about you, but i'd say that looks one hell of a lot better! really has freshened up the front of the car and actually made it look a lot newer and tidier!

441868454_7724648374259195_5616662443081774645_n.jpg.4fa9070e5010c88e2ee4ce9556752ec4.jpg

and just cos i can, here is a photo today when i got back of a very, very sodden XM sporting it's new plate

doesn't it just look fantastic!

Just got back from another metric fuck load of driving in the XM

almost 600 miles today

you know what, apart from the odd bit of achiness on my lower back I’m amazed at how well I can deal with these seats

essentially Holyhead to County Durham in one hit! Didn’t stop once and just cracked on the whole drive back

600 odd miles without a single issue, on one notch more than half a tank so well pleased about that

IMG_1918.jpeg.0a3ce159eaa37aae81081ac59b21a2d8.jpeg

I absolutely love this car

proving very practical too

IMG_1922.jpeg.daca1d3301c1b0ad60af50eafc0db347.jpegIMG_1921.jpeg.e0d695d6a592efa6bfb27d5a2eac2668.jpeg

I’d dread to think how much weight was in the back there, took a good minute or two to fully raise its self after being loaded and had its arse in the air when I unloaded

otherwise it handled it all great, could feel the weight a bit on some of the hills on the A55 but still accelerated quite well

so I’ve got a massive amount of XM parts now if anyone wants anything? Going to document them tomorrow

but I’m so pleased with this car
