So later today, I have a very short collection to do 😁 I am finally allowing myself to get excited, now my ducks are finally, sort of, in a row.

Waiting for a phone call and trying to concentrate on work in the mean time, before I sneak out on my lunch break 😉

So this won't be much of a collection thread but wanted to mark the occasion, all the same.

PC 0

Breakfast was a cinnamon and raisin bagel, and a large mug of Beanies Maple Fudge coffee.

WTAF is a ‘beanies maple fudge coffee’?
You deserve to have to measure your poo count in fl oz. after that.

Happy collectioning!

Gee thanks!

4pm is still considered late afternoon, right? I'm told that's when I'd get my phone call, and I haven't yet....Slightly nervous now but I'm sure it'll all work out okay in the end!

Home safe and sound...nearly 😆

Exhaust was on the way out anyway, hence these awesome spares provided with the car.

A particularly lively route home and the speed bumps in to our village about finished it off.

Big Jap barge meets wee Jap hatchback 😁

It'll meet the Fozzie at the weekend. I'd quite like to take them out for a shakedown together.

I adore the Outback body work. Love how chunky it is. It's such a nice place to be and is definitely in much better condition than my last H6! It's really very tidy and no where near as much body roll as I was expecting. Feels much stiffer than the Gen 3 Outbacks I've had.

Need to say a huge thank you to @Lanciaman for being the most patient seller ever. While I really wanted to do the drive from Aberdeenshire, for various reasons, life kept getting in the way. So glad to have finally gotten it home and looking forward to getting to know it better.

It's booked in to my Subaru specialist next week to try to diagnose the misfire and I reckon once that's sorted, it needs a fatter, stainless exhaust. I didn't remember the system being so narrow on these but it sounds quite good without a back box 😆 Hopefully a wider bore will let some of that glorious H6 rumble shout a bit louder 😉

Used to regularly see/hear of folk running out of talent on that bit as well, it can catch a few out.

I know the bit you're thinking of, where they keep crashing in to the tree? No issues with that bit but took the route through Failford - that is a nice fun road if you fancy a blat.

Ah yes I know that route too. Was along it today actually, it's a decent bit too!

Thought I best take this off before it fell off....

I don't think it would have tbh as it was still well attached by the 2 rubber hangers but it looks less suspicious with 1 missing back box than a wonky looking, half on half off, one. Not alot of actual metal left around that flange and can hear rust rattling around inside it. Exhaust note sounds nice now tho 😆

We took it for a wee drive to get chips tonight and I'm honestly so, so impressed with it! I'd forgotten how responsive these auto boxes could actually be and it drives much better than my last Gen 4 H6. I did criticise Subaru for selling out on the Gen 4 and trying to cater to the mass market but the Outback is almost the best of both worlds - comfortable motorway cruiser, enough ground clearance and grip not to get stuck in winter/on a muddy camp site and still handles well enough to have fun on the back roads.

I couldn't put my finger on exactly why I wanted this Outback. We didn't need another car, the Volvo fills the motorway mile muncher and load lugger very well, the Forester fills the ground clearance, unstick-ability and all round brilliant bloody fun REALLY well and then we have Paddy the Corolla for the ultimate in economical but fabulous motoring. But I had serious FOMO over it and I was allowing myself another car, at some point, because I always seem to buy a car when I get a new job... They gave me a home working allowance when I signed up and I'm saving money from not traveling to London every 2 weeks, so yeah.... I can show them my driver's seat if they ask to see the desk and chair that said allowance is intended to be spent on ;)

I'm so bloody glad to have tho, it's a gorgeous beast of a car and driving it feels like coming home :) Hoping for good news at it's check up next week! My money, for the cause of the misfire, is on lambda or MAF. I dunno why it's only cyl 5 and 3 it's affected but I'm sure something thinks they're burning lean and is over fuelling to compensate. Place your bets now!

Okay I am not a Subaru nut, I say they are just too grippy and safe and you can't push them to a anything like the limit. The engine once given a bootful of throttle cones to life and the box is tight, it's very predictable handling wise, I was taking it easy in my book but you just knew the car could take the twistys so much faster. The rally dna is there but with the boss in the car I daren't follow the McRae mantra of "if I'm doubt, flat out

The Outback is now with my Subaru specialist for diagnostics. Funny he doesn't seem thrilled about taking all the plugs out to do a leak down test 😆 So he's gonna pull the codes and deep dive that side of things first, then let me know what needs to be done. He's reckons it's a fuelling problem on the petrol side in that it's not burning as cleanly or as completely as it should but why is the $64,000 question.... It's been there a few hours and I haven't had a call yet.... Dunno if that's good or bad...

Wish us luck! 🤞

Still on tenderhooks. No conclusive diagnosis yet but could be something serious :/ He's still working on it and sounded like it was in bits....Won't get it back tonight coz he wants to be sure of the problem before he hands me it back. Least he's being thorough!
