Why do we try and sell our old cars.

Have I read this right? She wants FSH on a £600 car?

A valid v5 is a luxury at that price range 🤣

To be honest she hasn’t come back with the what’s the best price yet lol.

But I’m getting the shite car dealers who want to take it off my hands for scrap money now messaging me and the gangs of Roma Gypsies that come round mob handed to put oil in the expansion tank lol.

I’m also getting the “does it come with air conditioning and remote central locking messages”  now lol.

Is there an owner's club / facebook page for these? Might be worth advertising on there and selling it to someone who knows what it is and sees that it's a tidy example for not much money. Also, is it advertised for sale in the relevant section on these fine pages?

On a complete tangent; I get a lot of nostalgia for these as my grandmother had one before she gave up driving, and she would drive everywhere in it at 40mph in second gear 😅

I did put a link on the Punto Mk1 owners club and I’ve been told it’s too cheap.

I think if it did  sell it through the owners club, it would end up being a donor car for a GT Sporting, as a rust free 3 door body shell is in high demand apparently.

I don't know where you are in the country Vince, but £795 around this way won't get you a car worth using for anything except tip runs or to use to add weight to a scrap load.

It does seem under priced, as such you're likely getting absolute clowns wanting to look at it who've set the filter to sub £1k and in their local area so they can get a bus, or their mate to take them to view it without having to pay them more than a few fags for fuel cost.

Yep, pull the ad and put it up for £1495 instead. Worst case scenario some cretin shows up and offers you £900 thinking they're Warren Buffett. Best case scenario it filters out the <£1000 alerts brigade and someone with an IQ measurable in whole numbers comes and pays decent money for it.

Yes, this. MK1 Puntos are nice little cars now and getting rare.

The thing with owners clubs is that everyone already has one so a sale there is unlikely.

Nae takers on here?

It doesn't even have power steering, does it? Of course no airbags either.

A lovely car.

Seconded for putting the price up to steer the bums away looking for a car for £500. Have you had the solitary ‘400’ message or offers to revert to the feudal system of swapping it for something that’s broken?

I’m at the £500 offers at the moment, so I might drop the price a touch, just to see if I can get the price lower than scrap value.

If I do well I think I should talk the prospective buyers down to £150  because it’s wearing those aftermarket hubcaps lol.

I bought a nice tidy but very dirty rust free Golf Cabriolet MK3.5 which I still have with low mileage a year and a half back off marketplace as a non runner, which actually ran perfectly fine on the journey home,  once I put a battery on it and I didn’t make an offer and the seller said you can have it for £250 scrap as he wanted it off the driveway that day.

I said why don’t you want more than that and he told me all he had only been offered was £100 off marketplace for it.

So I guess it doesn’t matter how cheap a car is on marketplace someone will still come along and kick you in the balls.

I’ve not used my Convertible Golf since last September but I won’t part with it.

Its runs great now as well since changing the crank position sensor and changing the ignition system for pennies.

I’m on the southeast coast in Bexhill East Sussex.

Normally cars are quite expensive here, so I normally travel far and wide for a nice example.

This one I bought was from the outskirts of London in Bromley Kent, but it was next door to my cousins old flat and I was born at the bottom of the same road,  so I put that down as a good omen.

The seller was a lovely guy and he couldn’t work out how I knew which road the car was parked in by the picture lol.

I messaged him 3 days before going up to buy the car and said don’t hang on for my account but if it’s available on the Saturday then I will have it.

He did hang on though which was really nice of him and he had the same problems that I’m now facing on Facebook at the moment.

He said he even got threatened by one prospective buyer online because he refused to sell it to him for £200, but luckily the guy didn’t have his address and Bromley is a big place.

It’s famous though as it made its way onto Google street view when it lived in Bromley lol.

You can see it stands out from the crowd, as even that lady of impeccable taste, had to look back and give the Punto a second glance lol.

The Audi cab I bought recently which was on FB for 1000, the seller reckoned he was getting 2-3 messages AN HOUR which were either just "600" or offers of swaps for gold, quads, and dogs.

It can play in the favour of a shiter as you can pick up a bargain just by being less of a shithead than the other people messaging.

I got his number, asked some questions, had an obligatory attempt to try and get it a few quid cheaper, failed, booked a train, sorted.

He held onto it for several days without a deposit or anything despite the ad being live and his phone pinging with messages about it even as he picked me up from the station, presumably as I had established myself as a human and clearly had my shit together enough to book and actually get on a train putting me in the top 0.5% of facebook marketplace buyers.

I quite like the one where you're selling something and you get some no-mark messaging from Dover or Inverness asking where you are and not even managing to be able to put the postcode you've given them into Google to find out for themselves how far it is, how these people manage to breath and feed themselves I have no idea.

The "??" - is that because you read the message and didn't reply within 28.2919 nanoseconds? 😂

I’ve now marked it as sold as I doubt I could ever get better than a  £300 offer surely.

Or do I put it back up for sale and see if I can pay someone to take it away lol.

There's a buyer out there somewhere and I seriously think it's £1-1.5k to the right person. Might take a while to find someone who wants one that much but what other choice is there? Hardly any of them about anymore so if someone wants one enough (they are out there somewhere!) They will pay up and not mess you about

It looks far too good to let some skinflint pay buttons for it who will weigh it in next year when it needs a tyre or something

Honestly man don't waste your time on these cretins. They're not worth the steam off yours or anyone else's piss. They're the embodiment of the term 'a waste of space'.

He has some class cars for sale, but obviously he won’t show the registration as they’re most probably out of MOT.

Maybe I could PX my car and give him £400 for the Peugeot lol.

Thanks though Split Pin as I’m definitely taking your advice and I will just keep the old girl now,

I might just use it a couple of months a year, then throw a cover over the car when not in use.

I think that polo is the one I posted in the tat thread, that was misfiring and "only needed £150 worth of repairs" but had a nice shiny new pencil coil on cylinder 3 😂

It was something along the lines of "haven't got time to fix it and I don't need it any more... Got the green slip" which is classic driveway trader speak.

What a strange thing to specialise in, selling scrap to the public 😂 just weigh em in!

www.fiatforum.com used to be a great resource for all things Fiat, but it seems its Punto Mk1 section went the way of all flesh.

Edit: Using the link reports you sold the car for Ł715, is that correct of Fakebook gimmickry?

I never use FB Market for anything apart from looking at the weird ads with scantily clad women adverting anything from beds to barbecues.

I'm old and married, but I have often wondered is the code for some other sort of service?
