ULED expansion

I have no doubt it will have an impact.

What I thought was interesting was there will be a bunch of pre 2015 diesels with £30 VED that suddenly need to move out of the capital.  Which could in turn ease the used car market whilst Londonium is forced onto public transport and to buy newer cars.

It gets a lot of negative sentiment but I don't think it's such a bad thing.  At least there isn't a mandate to scrap the cars (though I'm sure some of them will be) a la the scrappage scheme.

plenty of discussion on this in the politics sub forum here.  Couple of thoughts from me though. there is a scrappage scheme although think it's only open to those on benefits etc.  We are talking approx 120 mile border including suburban and semi rural areas so not all going to be served by public transport, and if Khan gets away with it , guarantee its coming to other towns and cities once more geedy councils see £££ signs

There's a complete lack of understanding of the reality of the situation. For example your granny lives in the green fields on the outskirts of the zone, she wants a bit of landscaping done. Pavel, Mick and Sunni all travel to the site independently spending £37.50 a day for the privilege of being able to go to work.

After 5 days there's a surcharge on granny's bill of £187.50 to cover the ULEZ Khan tax.

Think of that on medium projects where you have 15-20 guys on site.  And no public transport isn't a viable  option.

Still that's democracy eh, oh no wait over 60% didn't want it but it's going ahead anyway.

Or in my case, my mother, lives just beyond the new proposed border, she has a 1997 Ford Escort Cabriolet, owned since new, she is 78 years of age (no doubt upsetting many members to see but I can attest she is still a good driver - and only just lost the last of her 3 points for speeding 😂 ). Anyway, after 25 years of owning and pretty much only driving the same car she isn't very keen about changing, plus the car is reliable and does the job perfectly for her. Not to mention she has other things to worry about spending her money on. Surbiton and Kingston are where she currently goes for her shopping and needs, she is eligible for a bus pass but can't carry shopping easily, and the nearest bus stop is over 1 mile from the house so prefers to take the car. Under the new rules of paying a fee it would actually be cheaper with the amount of petrol used for her to drive 25+ minutes down the A3 to Guildford and do her shopping there.

So 5 minutes to Surbiton at 20-30 mph, or 25-30 minutes to Guildford at the national speed limit. Which do you think is better for the environment? 😆

How ridiculous, it’s nothing to do with the environment no matter how the Labourites try to convince, it’s all about Sadistic Khan trying shore up his budget and the tax monies. There seemed to be a lot of vitriol about this on Vines show earlier today from average Londoners but Khan won’t give a shit.
