1989 property auction catalogue shite / street scenes

Now, is that a combined printing/tattoo shop or is the tattoo sign just an example of the print shop's work?

If it's the former, that's a pretty weird combination, and I imagine the tattooing is done by shoving customers' limbs into the printer.

'happy highways where I went and cannot come again...'

Funny the feelings that photos like that stir in one; the intense desire to open the front door and step out and find, just once perhaps, that it's all been put back to how it was then.  The eye is conditioned, somehow, to view what's there as better; it wasn't and it was, of course.  We didn't have lots of money in those days, but that was tempered by the world seeming a little younger and more optimistic in certain ways.  The streets were meaner, crime and unrest felt palpably closer, but with the frisson of danger came fun and freedoms to do what we now cannot.  Thank you for scanning the photos: nostalgia is addictive.

Sunbeam on Wellers! So familiar yet so far in the past. Are mkiv and v Cortinas the same stud pattern as Talbots from that era? I've got a clear memory of my parents neighbour's son owning an immaculate red W plate Cortina estate which was sat on white Wellers. He had running issues so took it for a spirited drive around the block, only to smash it up on the first blind corner.

A few days later a clean looking white Sunbeam appeared on his drive next to the ruined Cortina and I'm sure I remember the Wellers being swapped onto the Talbot. It looked great!

Strong Bonusprint discount film that's been rattled through a cheap camera by a non-photographer vibe; I have similarly muddy looking film in a folder somewhere.

Then photographed on an £8 digital camera by an amateur before uploading to here 😀

Here are the last few, hard to tell as it's very much in the background but might just be a Cherry Turbo in picture 7?

Also love the old school spares shop with the pre-facelift Mk2 Granny outside and the shonky beige Cortina outside the Prudential.

I found an old Barnard Marcus property auction catalogue from 1989 and the photos of some of the lots captured some period street scenes and old shite. Sorry for the picture quality.

You had me with the first image. 1989 was when I moved into Ipswich, so this exactly what I'd have been seeing back then.

Wonder if the Granada estate ended its days at Foxhall Raceway? Apparently it made it to 1995.

Back when MK1 and 2 Escorts roamed the streets and cost £50 not £50,000

The Escort shows as 2 litre, only lasted until 1990 by the look of it, can't see any RS or Mexico badging so maybe a home conversion back in the days when they weren't left as 'still a 1.1 on logbook mate'

Brunswick Road IP4, looks like it's been converted to unappealing residential use now. The oval was probably the most likely fate for the Granada, clean looking Ghia X by the look of it.
