Volksy
You can get a 1.6D Volvo S80 now as well, perhaps another future Hirst Cabs candidate?Yup and a V70 Estate with the same engine, its the PSA-BMW diesel unit from the Mini..

warren t claim
What the! There's a 1.6 Insignia?! This I have to look into, what on earth was the point of that? Mental.it has 197lb of torque, its actually the corsa vxr engine.doesn't sound as bad as the 1.6 volvo s80Which means it will be engine raped in 10 years time. M'coli
What the! There's a 1.6 Insignia?! This I have to look into, what on earth was the point of that? Mental.Oh I've driven one to Brum and back as a hire casr through work, they're fucking dismal. The seats are so tight thet the old hit-and-run injury (thigh/hip, I can't sit in narrow arse seats for any length of time and not get a really sore leg) got to me before the M1, then I found out about the cruise control. Just as I came off the M18 though, I found out it wasn't a diesel - it felt like one - because I needed to use 3rd gear and it revved to 6500, FFS. A diesel needs 6 gears because it's only got 4500-5000 rpm, a petrol only needs 5 gears because it's got 6500 rpm, so why the fuck has it got 6 gears???It's also cramped.43 mpg ont the way back to Yorkshire, using the cruise control from Brum onwards; the best thing about it was the roadworks, sitting at 50 mph.The Insignia has the potential to be a really great car, but GM doesn't want to let it be so. fiatdaft
sounds more like the 1.8 petrol that you had,and agree with you on what its like.but pre reg they sell well enough, esp sri's both petrol and diesel.

Hudsonpie
I used to have a Corsa....M904HTT, gave £250 for it about eight years ago and it was a cracking little car. It belonged to a mate who was in the army, and he used to get it MOT'd and taxed then it would sit under some treees while he was away. I offered him £800 at the time but the two fifty was all he wanted.....I bit his hand off, ok the roof was rusty due to some reaction with the tree sap or something but it had 60 odd thousand on it with a history and ran like a swiss watch.......put thirty thousand on it in about two years and sold it for £450.....the guy who bought it bit my hand off....We had a guy move in two doors up who had a three cyl one.....god it was shit, he was forever knocking on my door with problems because I made the mistake of mentioning that I was into cars. Oil leaks, all the time.....rear wheel bearings.... I fitted three, then got bored, and started to not answer the door when he knocked. It was an S plate and was forever going wrong and I got fed up with forever getting it going. Was fucking glad when they moved out.....On a lighter note is there room for some of this....... Station
The 1.0 are to appeal to people starting driving for the first time, like the Saxo 1.0's. As a mass manufacturer, they offer this. I think they're fine, I was neither surprised nor shocked that it drove well, and didn't break down, as it was just a Corsa I was given by my brother. The amount of stories in this thread about some being reliable and some being unreliable can be put down to gremlins and general sod's law, millions must've been sold by now. The Reverend Bluejeans
Ah, one man's shit is another's reliable little runner. Personally can't complain about Corsas, quite the reverse actually. Is it worth logging on to AS though to trawl through threads with people arguing over shit cars?I don't think so, especially when it may be construed someone only ever seems to log on to stir shit up then disappear again for a while.Moi? Mate, my cars are as worthless as yours.
brammy777
Yeh, the one I was driven around in is owned by someone on their first car.If you cant afford Insurance, and believe me, its unbearably hard for people my age to do so, a group one car is an attractive prospect. Sure, if it had been me Id have gone for something else, but not many people are like me. The Saxo 1.1 from 97ish, with that hideously pointless keypad password thingy is terminally slow, but the newer ones were faster. Could have just been the driver but Im not sure.KAs may rust, but the engine is a good one. They do love to look incredibly tatty though. The topic of this thread was what your mother wanted? A micra would be a good choice, reliable and a harmless capable little car.
trigger
Careful, Milf will be after you for reposting photos!. My mate bought this last week, It's a 1.2 on a P plate, I pissed myself when he told me as it's so not him but for personal reasons he needed to get a car that day and this was only £225 with test and tax, He hates the big wheels, Stainless exhaust, Front leather recaro seats and big bass box (he is 30) but it just looks like your average Corsa in Clacton!  The topic of this thread was what your mother wanted? A micra would be a good choice, reliable and a harmless capable little car.x2 as i said earlier

Volksy
My Niece has a 1.0 Corsa, and she loves it, it's never let her down, she can insure it and as she's never driven anything else, she's none the wiser I had a '96 Micra 1.0 as a company hack, in the ribena purple (I didn't choose it) and it was a great wee car, very thrashable, never put a foot wrong, After I left the company they kept it for a good few years, it never got serviced, and more than likely thrashed to within an inch of its life. I would recommend, thousands of Pizza parlours cant be wrong!
chester drawers
My mate bought this last weekSee now that car makes perfect sense.Assuming he can be arsed flog seats, wheels, exhaust, bass box etc. and recover the purchase price. Replace them with original spec from the tat yard then sell the car as CORSA PROJECT when it’s no longer needed. Pretty much free motoring that. Fair play to him.Has he been tempted to head for the local retail park late at night yet?
