Jazoli
Having a chat with a mate earlier about cars we used to own and he thought he was doing well with 30 or so, I thought I'd had a few more than that and after going through my old pictures (I scanned the old stuff years ago and always add an image to my drive whenever I buy a new one) and it turns out I've owned 56 in my 49 years on this planet which isn't bad going really as I didn't buy my first one till I was 16! This does not include the 7 company cars I had and the 5 vans, the wife's dozen or so cars I have bought or any of the kids vehicles as they were gifted to them, oh and the 40 odd motorbikes! List below, some interesting stuff, some not so much Alfa Romeo 147 2.0Audi A4 tdiAudi TT Cab 1.8tAudi A3 2.0tBMW 320ciBmw 528iBMW 540Chrysler PT cruiser 2.0Citroen Berlingo Van 1.6Citroen ZX Volcane 2.0 16VCitroen ZX 1.9TDFord Sierra 1.6 GLFord Escort MK5 1.8 GhiaFord Escort m6 1.8TDFord Mondeo estate 1.8 TDFord Focus mk1 1.6Ford Focus mk2 1.6Ford Fiesta mk5 1.4tdciFord Escort mk4 1.6GLFord Focus Mk1 1.4Ford Puma 1.7Ford KaHonda Accord 2.0Jaguar XJ6 3.2Mercedes C200 2.0Mercedes 300E-24VMercedes E270 CDIMitsubishi Spacestar 1.6Nissan 200SX S13 Peugeot 106 1.5 Peugeot 306 DTurbo ph1 Peugeot 306 2.0 xsi ph2 Peugeot 307 estate 2.0hdiPeugeot 405 1.6Peugeot Expert van 2.0hdiSaab 900 T16Saab 9-3 cab 2.0tSkoda Superb 1.9tdiSkoda Octavia VRS 1.8tTalbot Samba 1.0Toyota Avensis mk2 1.8Toyota Avensis mk1 2.0Toyota Supra Turbo 3.0Vauxhall Astra mk5 1.6Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8 CDiVauxhall Corsa 1.0 baseVauxhall Insignia 2.0cdtiVauxhall Zafira 1.6Volvo 360 GLT 2.0Volvo S80 2.4Volvo V70 2.4Volvo 850 2.0VW Golf GTI MK4 x 2 1.8t/2.0VW Polo breadvan VW Bora 1.9tdi Some were forgettable, others I wish I still had, 9 of them were bought off this forum and 9 others were sokd/roffled through the forum the common theme is that apart from one car I have never spent more than £2k on anything and have never sold at a great loss apart from one (the shit 307 estate) The favourite (and most expensive at £8k) was probably my 200sx which I owned in my 20's and went 'cossie' hunting a lot as it had 280 bhp and weighed 1200kg's which was quite a bit in 1996! I used the deposit for my house to buy it, not my smartest decision long term but I have happy memories. The worst was the PT Cruiser, I have no idea why I bought it. Dobloseven
I bet the Six Cylinders are frantically scribbling away even as we speak! I've owned surprisingly few and most of them have been co owned with or passed on to Mrs Doblo. No more than 25 we've actually bought to use and a few what I call "rescue cars", I've bought for a bit of "fun". Getting worse though since I fell in with you lot! davehedgehog31

NorfolkNWeigh
I honestly don’t know , I know my first car was a 1968 Dyane 4 that my Mum gave me when I was 16 (1980) when I actually turned 17 I discovered I couldn’t insure it because it was LHD . So I resurrected a 1970 Cortina 1600 deluxe from the wood below our house . That was my first car, the last car I bought was a Mercedes E250 CDi Sport 125 Edition Convertible , on Thursday. In the intervening 42 years my life has revolved around cars and I must have had 100’s. Do you count cars bought to sell? Everything I’ve ever owned is for sale for the right price. Cars bought to scrap or to use for parts. Cars that never got on the road , despite “ I’m doing it up” Cars rented out as cabs? Cars bought by me but used by offspring? Company cars? Motorbikes ? Vans? At one point in 1982/3 , me, a mate and one of my brothers had 40 cars parked all over Milton Keynes, all Fords - Escorts, 2.0 Cortinas, Capris and a couple of Corsairs. One day I was trawling the estates looking for an engine when I spotted a Mk3 GXL in a communal parking area. I started knocking on doors … Eventually a woman admitted it used to be hers but she sold it to some lads, who hadn’t moved it. That night in the pub I mentioned to my brother about the GXL on Bradwell Common, he looked a bit thoughtful , went out to his car ( 2.0Capri Mk2) came back with a handful of log books- “ Fuck me ! I’d forgotten that one, we already own it! I can count on one hand the ones I regret selling. 1973 Facelift MK1 1600 GtT with a shit hot 2.0, would eat 2.8 injections. Sold 1988 1970 XJ6 2.8 manual overdrive. Didnt have a legit MOT due to rot but looked and drove perfect. Sold 1986 1989 Discovery 3.5 manual 3 door. Sold 2002 1998 E240 Elegance . Sold yesterday. RichardK
Feel like we've done this one before and not that long ago, but "about 180" since 1992. I have a spreadsheet of them mostly because remembering when I had a particular car is handy for remembering what my life was at the time. It is not a source of pride. In 2006ish I worked out over leases, finance, maintenance and losses I'd sunk about £200,000 into this addiction. It's been driven by ADHD, bad advice, shitty garages and just occasionally actually bad cars that I needed to change, and some aspects have been good and enjoyable but a lot of it has just been a really negative distraction from other issues. While driven by the love of cars, very little of it really yielded great experiences - in fact most of the best car experiences were more to do with being young and exploring life and relationships and so forth, and the cars themselves could have been swapped for anything. With that in mind, I'll drag out some positives: Vauxhall Chevette - 1984 saloon in red, the car I passed my test in so obviously important, it was a great example (and the first example of a garage giving bad advice/ripping me off setting off car changes). The brakes wore out and I was told it was dangerous - my dad took this as I needed to replace the car. Anyone else, myself included if I'd known anything, would just have fixed the damn brakes. BXs - always awesome. Fiat X1/9 Gran Finale. I was 19 and had a dark blue metallic targa-topped mid-engine sportscar that was just four years old. Fortunately I owned it and loved it for the driving experience, the handling and precision, the involvement, because though it might seem like a poser car, it merely added to my natural ability to repel humans. Audi 90 Quattro, B2. Black, B reg, and when boy racers were paying four figures to insure an Astra Merit it was £325 fully comp. Not as quick as I could be in my Manta but great in winter. Citroen XM - I felt like the absolute dog's bollocks driving an XM at 21. They were obscure enough that no-one had to know it was a 2.0 carb... That lead to CXs which were my life for a while. Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe - 4100HTi so '82 MY with independent rear suspension, white. Owned in Oklahoma, my second American car and way better than you'd imagine bar a misfire. (2015 I had a Chrysler Fifth Avenue in Oregon. Same energy. Wish I could have kept it). Mitsubishi Delica L400 - not sure there is a vehicle in the world that is more "me" except perhaps pickups. Similarly felt very at home in my Fiat Fullback. Other notable happiness cars. RX-8 (new 2006 and current 2004), Toyota Seras, original air cooled Beetles, the Yellow SLK, the Twingo I fixed, the Vauxhall Senator hearse, Golf Mk1 Cabriolet, Chrysler 300C Hemi Touring, Cherokee XJs and the modern Jeep Wranglers I got to use but aren't in my owned stats, and Subaru Legacy 4Cam Turbo Estate. Notable mistakes I would take back if I could; MG Metro, Citroen C6, Volvo 480 (liked it but stupid), rotten X1/9. Upshot? If I could go back to being 17 I'd frogmarch myself to a Mazda dealer to buy a brand-new MX-5 and a lot of waxoil, then after a couple of years pick up a secondhand Mitsubishi Shogun or similar for hard work and stuff, pay main dealer to maintain so I could explode at a big company if they cheated/lied/messed up, and focus on learning more/making better choices elsewhere. In 1998 I'd buy an S-reg yellow Mercedes SLK knowing that in 2012-2018 it was what I'd end up being immensely happy and comfortable in, and would do everything I could to keep it perfect (like having enough money not wasted on cars to buy a house with a big garage to keep it in). wesacosa, Jazoli, FakeConcern and 1 other
