Heikin Matsuda
Hi, On Monday I bought and took delivery of a car from these hallowed pages, Thank you @NorthernMonkey for an easy and pleasent transaction and the car is better than expected so happy days. Here is a pic of it back amongst its kin. I thought seen as it was purchased from here and its already branded then i will document its journey with me as i go and add in other fleet goings on as and when things happen. First impressions are good, some mild welding required in the usual places but over all a solid old girl and comes with a boot full of random bits and spares to convert to manual if required. Its got laquer peel, faded paint and crusty bits, whats not to like! Thats where the Wabi-Sabi comes in, Straight from Google san - wabi-sabi (侘寂) is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.[2] The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature. I see plenty of imperfection and nature has definatly left its mark so im running with it. Im off for a green tea and medication... or is that meditation? Either way lets see how this one pans out. Haha, the current acquisition does take me to number 6 mx5 but to be fair some of these in that pic are customers cars too. The rest of mine are behind the pic 🤣 puddlethumper and gm
gm
i’m on number 8 but not at the same time what are the plans for the red one ? i did think of taking it on myself but welding isn’t my strong point and my mk1 will need attention soon Heikin Matsuda
NorthernMonkey
Glad it’ll live on…I’ve more chance of concentrating my efforts on its stablemate now (which ironically needs more welding then CBA but is polybushed with bigger brakes and a LSD) What I really need to do is try out an Exocet for physical driver size suitability before pulling the trigger and ordering up the kit. At least it’ll save having to weld up the rear sills…. gm and Heikin Matsuda

Im currently face to face with this mess on a mk2.5 so the welding doesnt scare me anymore, im at one with rust. Im sort of on the fence at the moment as to what to do, other than the bit of welding i think im going to leave the patina on the car for the weathered look. Im tempted to keep the auto as my meare 10 mile commute to work one way can take me an hr or more so some easy lazy auto driving is calling but i also have a mk2.5 with a lsd and vvt engine sitting rusting away so thoughts are brewing. gm and puddlethumper
gm
that’s sill would certainly give me the fear - good luck ! my mk1 is mildly modified for track use, the exo as seen in the pic was nowhere near finished so a mk2 for a daily seemed sensible. i only kept it for a few months as i’d been looking for a decent crv for ages and i eventually found one so the mk2 went to live with a fellow autoshiter up in edinburgh. the Exo is now on the road and the mk1 isn’t seeing much use but i’ll keep it anyway, decent mk1s are getting thinner on the ground these days. Hi, 95% of our work is Mazda's but when time and space allow i do take on other jobs. Our workshop is in Dudley, on Pear tree lane near Merry Hell! gadgetgricey
Thought I recognised the yard from Hubnuts vids. Hoping to get it in for MOT in the near future so may be in touch.~ Cheers Heikin Matsuda
Heikin Matsuda
Had a rare saturday afternoon free so started having a deeper poke around the mx5. Started with clearing out the boot, and whipped the seats and carpet out for a floor check. Little bit of surface rust near ecu, mostly on the cover plate and bracket so ecu high and dry. Ive had these cobra seats an absoulte age, ive test fitted them in many cars over the years, thought naa to much faffing around to get the seat brackets to work and never bothered. So as true to tradition tested them out in the mx5. They should fit with some adaption of these seat brackets i picked up from somewhere, will they actually be fitted into a car..... probably not. On other fleet news, this Mitsubishi Carisma 2.0 turbo diesel was gifted to me a couple of months ago by my loving brother as he couldnt bare to see it scrapped, he has recently became a first time father so has opted for a 3 year old corolla hybrid so i was guilt tripped into been the proud new owner of a car with no carisma or elegence as the badges suggest. So what do you do with a free car thats mot is up on the 5th August..... spend money on silly things like getting the heater vent flaps working correctly. It was bugging me that the flaps had broke and couldnt direct the air where you wanted so cue finding some on ebay at a rather high price and set about making a working set from what we had. The flaps are obviously handed so some slight fettling was required but we have working flaps once more! As well as doing both rear wheel bearings it hasnt cost much else other than diesel so to be fair its been a mighty fine steed for daily commute and here is a pic of it up the horse shoe pass not long after we got it. Its on around 160000 miles if i remember correctly and id love to see it hit 200000, if we get a mot pass then i may well treat it to some welding on the wheel arch as i have grown fond of this car in a short space of time.
