You know when you go on a bit of a wild one and then wake up the next morning and you've got married to an alpaca?  No?  Just me then, well it's not legally binding anyway I'm sure.  Well, the other day I went on a bit of a wild one and bought another Vauxhall Cavalier.  And this morning I was awoken to the sound of it being dropped off a trailer outside my house.

92J 2.0 CDi saloon on its original Camden plates.  Luton registration.
Platinum Silver (I think).
ABS light on (so much for that being cleared then).
OSR door moulding missing in action (think I've sourced one).
Dead SC303 radio/cassette.
Needs a very good clean.
Broken clocks.
It has a year's ticket.

It's EXACTLY what I've been looking for since I sold my other mk3 a whole week ago.
That didn't take long then.

I can hear the knicker elastic snapping from here.

What a beauty, great colour too. Saloon is classy.

Six randoms if you decide to sell.

I can remember being parked up on the Kingsway in Swansea one night with my mate when a random teenage girl in a tracksuit, pineappled blonde hair, terrible make up, really tall and a typical teenage skinny physique comes up to my window and says in a broad Swansea accent,

"ohhhhh, got the guvnor ave EWE? Goes like fuck they dooooozzz and they takes a hammering all night. My brother ewezzzz tooooz nick them and do ram raids MUSH. He's gone down now though as it 'appens for breaking and entering. Takes us for a spin MUSH?"

Desperate to avoid being on the operation yewtree radar and about to make up a feeble excuse, luckily I was saved as the police cruised past, her and her mate disappeared quick sharp as did we.

She was clearly following in her brothers footsteps........

Probably a local MP now or the like.

Marks & Spencer's quality isn't what it was, sorry...

Nice car, brings back memories of my dad's G plate one, although that was a blue hatchback in far lesser spec.  Said Cavalier was later part exchanged for a Mk1 Mondeo, which is a car I aspire to own one day.

Excuse me whilst I have a crisis…

The ultimate cav for me. My dad had a white cdi hatch (h537yto) as a company car. The interior brings back memories, it was the first car I had been in that had wood of any sort, and I used to wash it for him every weekend.  I loved that car.

Sadly it attracted wrong uns like moth to a flame in early 90s Bolton and it got joy ridden twice and was never quite the same after it got repaired the second time.

That’s bloody nice, a superb purchase if you will.

I think dressing in a suit, wearing some jewellery and a nice watch would have to be compulsory every time you climbed on board. You could pretend you were “Mick the rep” from an air ventilation system business or something like that, screaming up the M1 to a business meeting in Sheffield.

I think I’ve mentioned it before but I worked on one of these when I was studying at college, a 2.0 CDi (i for Important) - G617 FVF with 69k on the clock. The college acquired it in 1994 from the Police. Apparently it was seized by Norfolk Constabulary for proceeds of crime as it was a drugs mule car, whether that’s true or not remains to be seen but it sounded like a cool story at the time so we’ll roll with it.

Well played that man. That looks top TOP spec?

Weeeeelllll, you could get a Diplomat in pre facelift but finding one would be a task, and I'd MUCH rather have nice velour than leather.

I went out in it earlier and it felt like driving 1992.  The little plastic tray in the centre console is missing and a lot of wires are visible, I soon learned that you have to press some of them together to get the driver's window to work 😁

I was going to put my Cav specific private plate (there's a story) that was on the Rioja one I sold last week, onto this.  But I can't rob it of its originality for a few good reasons.

1. The only other saloon I've had also had an MJ suffix.
2. Original plates ftw.
3. My uncle's last car which he had when he died in 1998 was a J plate Cavalier, and he had the same christian name as the guy I bought this from.
4. I've never actually owned a J reg car.

So that one will have to stay on retention for now I guess.

Saloon for the win.

I had a pair of Cavs when I was 17, G955 ONH was a 1.6L saloon in maroon. After six months and 11,500 miles I stuffed it into an armoured barrier on the B4391 near Bala, so it was replaced by G706 BEH, a 1.6GL hatch in the same Platinum Silver as the OP’s car.

The saloon was by a country mile the better drivers car, it felt much less floppy than the hatch.

Mick the rep ? In a 2.0CDi ?
no chance Mick would be lucky to get a 1.6 L, the area manager might get a 1.8GLwith the regional sales manager Lording it up in a 2.0 GLi or even an SRi if the fleet manager liked him and he was a bit of a Lad.

A 2.0 CDi , when you could finally get them ( there was a wait of up to a year for high spec Cavaliers at launch) would more than likely be Head Office based managers “ perk “ car . The company I worked at in 1990 had the CDi on grade 8 alongside 2.0 GL Carltons, Granadas and 740s. The daring went for an XM  or a 318i , we had one CDi , same colour as that one but a hatch driven by the PR and marketing manager, I think it had barely done 20,000 miles on disposal at 3 years old. Some merchandisers 1.6 L’s were sold at 60k and a year old.
