Flat4
I don't think this is anything to worry about but just wanted to double check with the hive mind. A car I'm interested in buying is quite clearly gunmetal grey in the flesh but on the log book, online tax, MOT history, etc, it's listed as silver....It's an extremely dark silver!!! Anyone seen anything like that before? I'm not too concerned as the Granvia is apparently white and gold, when the bottom half is clearly silver, and the Merc is listed as blue when it's such a light blue that it looks silver too unless you're close up. Have the DVLA got limited colours or something??
Jamie
there are some strange ones out there. this bmw looks silver right? its listed as 'yellow' on the logbook - as it has a slightly goldy-yellow hue in sunlight TL:DR - its nothing to worry about
Shite Ron
I had a two year old mk3 Mondeo Ghia estate and original colour was on the log book as silver, the car was Gold and was clearly original and never resprayed. I would not worry.
JimH
We had a 9-5 SAAB in Smoke Beige which looked a lot like this (library photo). You will probably spot that is very much at the dark grey end of the brown scale. It was recorded on the V5 as Beige.
UltraWomble
VW Polar Silver. Its gold / beige M8. In fact I found an Austin paint colour of gold an exact match

Datsuncog
This car is apparently blue, according to the logbook. It's absolutely a dark metallic grey to the casual observer, though under the bonnet where there's no metallic topcoat the grey base coat does have a blueish tinge. Owned from new so definitely no jiggery-pokery with resprays.

Lord Sterling
My old Sterling was described on the V5 and MoT as "MULTI-COLOURED" Clearly 🙄 Flat4, MantaGTE85, AnnoyingPentium and 2 others 1
AnnoyingPentium
There's a couple of Flamenco Red Fabias down as Maroon or Brown. Additionally, my Granda's Mk1 Punto had white on the V5 even if it was like this...

vulgalour
Grey, apparently. It's clearly beige. Barrett has a point too, dark silver is still silver. Flat4
NorfolkNWeigh
To counter Leyland Cars mistake , I had a Renault Grand Espace in a greyish greeny blue colour , Renault called it Hessian ,the DVLA? Beige. Mercedes used to have a colour called Smoke Silver, that was in fact metallic gold.
andy18s
My folks bought a BMW e21 316i that was the greyest looking BMW you can imagine. Logbook had it listed as Basalt Blau..

chaseracer
The Lexarse/Zanussi's colour revels in the name of 'Sonic Titanium'. It is metallic beige, and there's an end to it...
Timewaster
In the spares place mixing paint people would often offer the helpful information "it says green on the log book m8" when asked for the paint code. When the car was registered, the salesman looked out of the window and decided to call it Green or Grey or whatever and wrote that on the sheet. I'm surprised they still bother putting colour on the V5 now as everything made in the last 5 years seems to be some sort of grey.
iainrcz
My first 407, which was Moonstone blue was silver according to the DVLA.
