cue the front end slamming down and ramming into the stops

why it's done that i don't know

might be worth giving the height correctors and rods a clean and grease if you haven't already

Agreed. Maxxo and I have similar stereos in our car now... seen at the back of this image. :)

Only difference is that mine is CD changer capable. There's probably other differences though. Oh, and I did eventually turn the D-Bass up. :D

Man, that’s an impressive array of switch blanks, the original owner knew how to live!

My DS did that once several years ago. Never happened again. I think I was turning the steering wheel. which was already on full lock. The system pressures are coordinated so that if you are low on pressure you lose suspension first, then steering then brakes. So I think turning the wheel caused a demand for fluid which was given up by the suspension which no longer had enough to keep afloat. if that makes sense. I would imagine the XM would behave similarly but with added clicking of relays.

There is something related to the door open and hard/soft mode.  If you are on CX spheres, they will just be on the corners and the corner spheres may be completely flat— so switching modes makes it go a bit mad. The CX spheres are probably covering up flat centres at the very least.

Or you could have an electro valve problem that the CX spheres are an attempt to mask (BTW don’t probe those with power as they operate on something like PWM, and 12V will destroy them.  There is some sort of diode fix for this if that is the case, I believe.

Hopefully just a new set of correct spheres (centre and corner) and it will all be okay. I recommend Pleiades if you fancy a trip down the A1.

I was literally just sitting there

The only thing I'd done is put the gear selector in park and turned off the engine

Parking brake wasn't applied so maybe it rocked a bit and confused something?

But it was when I opened the door

Yes it drops into sport mode to stop it sinking so far when the door is opened

But I wonder if the horrible CX spheres are hiding something.....

I'm very tempted to replace the corner and centre spheres with the correct ones and see what happens

Thing is I don't like people messing with the suspension of a car, that's why I didn't fit comforts to the C5......normal new spheres transformed that

Thing is, yes I like a floaty comfortable car.....but you need to drive this to see what my issue is, its horrendous at times to the point of it becoming unstable due to being too soft

It's not overly comfortable as it hits the bump stops on most speed bumps you can take in the C5 barely feeling them

Sport mode does nothing, still has lots of body roll

Somethings trying to be hidden on it, I think it's a lot more to it than just wanting a floatier ride

I drive carefully, don't thrash my cars but sometimes I do like to throw them around bends, now the XM in theory should handle better than the C5.....but it doesn't, not by a mile, it leans too much and rear end lift during even gentle braking can throw the car off balance

I am surprised that your XM nose dives under heavy breaking. Citroen already had that sorted out with the DS so that rear seat passengers would likely be thrown against the rear of the front seat rather than over the top into the front seat occupants. There were no rear seat belts and usually no front head rests at that time. How was it done? Heavy breaking would use fluid taken from the rear suspension.

The XM should switch to hard mode at the front to prevent this but his is a bit off-spec at the moment thats all. I imagine it’s wonderful until a corner or a brake pedal is reached!

@maxxo, I know you like a bit of an electronic fiddle so have a look on Club XM about adding LEDs so that you can monitor whether the suspension ECU is in hard or soft mode.  Even if it can’t physically do it due to the odd sphere combination, you can see if it is at least trying.

Also, you can easily add diodes to the suspension ECU to fix a fairly frequent failure point on these. You can add generic stuff but also worth reading about the E-crofting kit which I think is the same sort of idea but just commercialised for sale.

Anything you read about WHM (Wolsey House Motors)  and their fix for failed XM suspension is best avoided. AFAIK, they just make a big pointy BX out of the XM, a bit like your CX sphere arrangement.

That's a sphere catalogue (IFHS). The CX spheres are much bigger physically and the wrong spec for an XM.

not much to report, been using it a fair bit recently

such as today, i had to go and collect something from Facebook marketplace.....yes, an actual pleasant marketplace transaction

anyway, decided to go in style

parked opposite a long japanese car

No description available.

i'd bought myself from halfords a spinny electricity polishing device

i'd never used one before

cue electrical humming noise and spinning, i had absolutely no idea what i was doing, i just put a couple of blobs of autoglym polish on it

No description available.

my god, these things are useful

takes all the pain out of polishing

and the results....

That’s multiplex wiring for you. Could be a short circuit in the door hinge area.

tyres date from 2013 for the fronts and 2014 for the rears.......

mmmmmmmm

not too happy about that

Better than my x1/9 which are 2006 and 2010!  Reminds me I really need to get a new set if I want to use it this year.

not sure then, i know it only has 2 ECUs....suspension and ABS

I’m sure someone who knows will be along soon. Multiplex was about using the wiring for more than one function. My dad’s headmaster had one in 1993 when dad had a BX. When it rained the sunroof opened!

had it serviced today

rattle has been fixed, loose brake disc screws, simple fix

it decided to reward me on a little drive to the beach shortly afterwards

No description available.

just enough slack on the pipe to pull off the broken section and push the rest back on

my friend who serviced it said, in these very words "it's not that bad really"

so there you are

i have a quality car here, well purchased

need to fix the window and blower as it's quite a misery to drive in this weather

i got a compliment of a group of teenagers today! which surprised me

i've also filled it up from half a tank, the fuel guage is actually quite accurate!

but yes, 500 or so miles in now and it's not caught fire, exploded in my face or broken down yet

therefore, i've decided to make the decision to drive it to shitefest in wales next month

There's far worse shit on the roads, at least you are aware of their age and can drive accordingly.

So long as there's still tread and no cracking etc the drive on.

Good job with the robo-polisher.

Sidewalls are cracked on the front pair which I’m monitoring, probably next month I’ll get some new tyres……not part worms actual new tyres

what to go for, I don’t know, I don’t personally see the point in going for Michelin, maybe Firestone or nexen

You sure it was a compliment?

I’d done 400 miles since I filled it, it was displaying half a tank and I didn’t fancy chancing it

got 39 litres in (80litre tank)

so yes, was surprised

found an alarm power supply i'd removed from someones house, i think when i upgraded their alarm

anyway

it works and is powering the radio

now the question is, 1145 ot 4641 as the code......

concerning

sorry for the dig,

But do you have the serial number/barcode? Being most likely a Clarion, If it starts in C7 I could probably get the right code, even if it's just to chuck the radio on evilbay
