RoverFolkUs
Looks alright to me, not much different to other rack gaiter jobs How about do the bare minimum to get it a ticket then sell it on? It's then a running car with a year's ticket and you haven't got to spend out on the cambelt or the cosmetic bits Cant imagine you'd make a loss if doing that AnnoyingPentium

Just looked and book time is 1-2 hours on the rack gaiters each side, so may not be rack out. 1-2 hours on the anti roll bar link. I think realistically 4 hours for the lot if things go pear shaped and things are seized. Is it worth it? I'd suggest not asking the garage's opinion on that. To them it's just an old car with 190k miles, Citroen specialist or not. You're just over £1000 into it, get a price on all the work and figure out what you can easily do yourself to save a bit of money. Add those two figures together and see if you could get that back selling a running, driving and road legal Citroen XM, possibly in need of a cambelt and bodywork by the new owner. Then work out what you're going to get for it as it is. Which one looses you the most money? Which option makes you the most happy - saving a Citroen XM from scrap or saving your time/money/sanity by binning it off to someone else? If the spark of enthusiasm isn't there for it, that won't help you but try to remember how far you've got with it already Tickman, djim and myglaren
Mrs6C
I had an errand to run this morning, 40 miles away and I took the XM because I wanted to drive a car that looked like a spaceship and rode like a magic carpet... They are well worth the time and effort to look after them. The items on the MOT list don't look bad and once they are done, you won't have to worry about them again... dome, wesacosa, LightBulbFun and 6 others

wesacosa
try and get OEM gaiters if you can. they don't fix with an external clip they have locating feature in them which clips to part of the rack. after market ones usually don't and the outer ends keep pinging loose myglaren

beko1987
Even with all the work and money and etc an mot'd xm with some work done even if it needs a cambelt will probably not see you a huge loss... Cambelt won't be that hard either, and well documented. Andyrew would probably do a decent price on the parts. I'd almost say I'd give you a hand but your far away and I've never done a belt on this engine before. Access will be a twat though 😂
