dome
Here's an interesting* habit I have, I wonder if anyone else is the same? In the corner of my garage is a little tub with some trophies of previous shite conquests. I keep them either as a reminder that I can overcome difficult situations or because sometimes I've just got bloody lucky. Here's some examples. These are from last weekend. You're looking at the remains of the 2 bolts that hold the Servotronic valve onto the steering rack of my L322. It had failed resulting in variable steering assistance, clearly not ideal. The remains of the lower one came out with a combination of plusgas, heat and time. These are lift bolts from the MR2s 2zz engine. Mounted below the cams these control the "Lift"-Toyotas VTEC YO. These wear and the end falls off requiring removal of the cams to replace, luckily I got to these in time so it was simple job to reach them-you can see the wear in the bottom of the bolts. Needless to say it was a relief to get these out intact so into the tub they went. The big end bearings from the black MR2s original engine-the noise from these was the reason it was cheap. I replaced these and went on to do many track days in the car before swapping to the more solid underneath red car and then to the 2z engine. Inner CV joint from the S4. This was bought cheap(ish) because of an intermittent vibration. I did the right thing and kept driving it til it got bad enough to be obvious-£30 later and it was sorted. Fucked Honda Jazz gearbox bearings. Leftovers from my first (proper) gearbox rebuild. Piece of piss as it turns out but the first time you take a gearbox apart is quite a sobering thing. Into the tub with you! The fucked timing guide from the S4. This is what lead to the car getting broken due to the cost/complexity of repair. Kept as a reminder of what happens when things go wrong and also to remind me that a car can be worth more in its component parts than complete... Ok, this one isn't in the tub🤣 It's the cylinder head from my w210 300td. I thought I'd won a watch when I found a non rusty one, less so 3 days later when it shat its head gasket. Or so I thought-turns out this head had gone porous leading to oil and water mixing. Kept because, well just because. So, is it just me that keeps weird shit like this? I hope not... I've got a duff coil pack from the Fabia as a reminder that I don't care enough to ever want to go out and fix it in the pissing rain ever again. dome
PhilA
I've got a few, they were hanging on various nails and screws on the wall in the garage. I have one of the valves from the Renault on my desk at work, which looks ok until you spin it and it wobbles. It's not quite true any more. Tigerfox
Got a couple I took pictures of. Spark plug from our Corsa B and a piston from my Riley 9 after some white metal broke up. Needs a set of liners and pistons now ! dome
catsinthewelder
I used to have half a connecting rod from a Yamaha Thunderace engine I dismantled on work experience at a bike shop. We didn't get many useful parts from that one but it was good experience and took up a lot less space afterwards.
AnnoyingPentium
Thread revival for this one, hidden in plain sight. It came from this... Not mine, but my Dad's old D-reg Nova.
