Can’t see how that would happen if you took the 12v feed from the ignition. No CANBUS etc to interfere with. mat_the_cat

Motown
***UPDATE*** So after asking everyone i know in Rover circles messaging every ebay seller listing 800 parts and ringing round scrap yards even going as far as to ring America.... I still haven't located a relay or anyone who can repair or make one. I did email Comus relays and Preston relays who both manufacturer car relays but they were unable to help. One thing i do know is it seems to be very rare and unique to the MK1c with slim trip computers only. Its also been some time since ive seen an 8 pin Lucas relay so i am now looking into potentially bypassing the relay without causing other electrical problems with the car. "But you don't need that to pass da MOT m9" - I saw that comment on Faceache! Been thinking about this, you may have to by pass it, but I wonder if you could just do something that splits the relay in two with two other relays to get it to do the same job? I've a Rover outside breaking but it's a 200/25, if it had a similar relay you'd be more than welcome to it if it worked.

I have given up on facebook as its a bloody minefield and complete waste of time! Appreciate the offer of help with regards to the 200/25 i think this relay is unique to this model and simply isn't on alot of later/modern Rovers as the lighting setup was different. It will probs have to be bypassed and iam fine with that so long as the headlights are functional and the car can legally pass an MOT.... However bypassing anything puts the fear of god into me as i said previously with old rover electronics there is always the risk of solving one issue and creating five others. I dont know how to bypass it either and struggling to find anyone thats does I cant even find a diagram of how the relay works so i can potentially get a batch made up. Motown
***Update*** I am looking into getting a batch of these relays remanufactured i have emailed several companies and simply awaiting replies. Does anyone know were i could find a diagram or something showing how the relay works in order to get it remade. LOOK at the pictures its beyond repair in my opinion. Motown
12 minutes ago, St.Jude said: What did they do for the Honda Legend? Did they use a different relay? The Honda Legend didnt have the slim trip computer so had no need for this relay neither did any other 800 apart from the MK1c SLi Vitesse or Sterling. Anything below SLi trim level for the MK1c didnt have a trip computer. MK1b had entirely different trip computers wiring and electronics and the MK2 800 didnt have a trip computer...... I reckon this is why its so unique/rare and incredibly hard to find. I estimate there are less than ten MK1c 827s left on the road (with slim trip computers) and two of them are on my drive. mk2_craig, St.Jude and AnnoyingPentium
Motown
20 minutes ago, St.Jude said: What did they do for the Honda Legend? Did they use a different relay? Yes or it just simply didn't have one.... its hard to say as i haven't seen a Legend for years they are probs rarer than the Mk1 827s themselves. I am not sure how the relay works or what it does entirely but not only does it seem to send a signal to the trip computer notifying the driver if a fault with the cars lights but it also assists in the functioning of the headlights as without the relay or in my case a blown relay they dont work correctly..... I should also say that with all MK1c 800s with slim trip computers if theirs a fault with the trip computer unit itself or the trim computer is removed from the car the lights dont work. Motown
***Update*** After many sleepless nights and 15 days of continuously searching the internet contacting numerous electrical manufacturing companies and waltzing around scrap yards all to no avail... A chap across the pond in Pennsylvania has built me a relay and is shipping it to me next week. Fingers crossed it works when it gets here from America and the 827 SLi will live to fight another day. mercedade
The 'trip computer' is quite French in design, tbh - it's actually a vehicle condition monitor, so it tells you if bulbs are out. The giant screen version in earlier MK1s also had MPG info, trip info etc. It never, ever worked and the LCD screen was crap. Motown
